soccr, we assume if someone would pay you to espouse your information that you then wouldn't be doing it for free \:D/

This is the internet and people "steal" from it all the time. Editors everywhere are just beginning to create guidelines for materials taken from the internet. And the guidelines are for credit not for cash.

I post here because it's fun. All I have to say is they better be a fun bunch of editors or...well I haven't figured that out.

I am afraid.

"Oh trust us, we've been watching..."

Can they see me inside my home? Do they know what I'm doing?

Keith Feb 5th, 2005 07:24 AM

soccr,

I agree about the "directive." I don't think that is a bad thing

This is a marketing direction a lot of businesses are moving toward right now. For example: during last night's TV weather report, the weather man announced they are using a blog and he will be active on it.

Perhaps there was a article on it in a marketing magazine:-)

GoTravel, would you please put your clothes back on. PBS has just pulled the episode of Travels with the Tellatubbies to Charleston. Tnx to you! Bad naked girl.

<Oh trust us, we've been watching...>

Now THAT is one weird message!

I find the entire deal with the new editors arriving very strange. Like we're in high school and the parents come home early one evening and catch us all having a party.

Not to mention the red stars are quite annoying. Personally I would rather take advice from many of the regular old-time posters who have proven themselves over the years on this board instead.

Betsy Feb 5th, 2005 08:12 AM

I don't think any editors have shown up on the Europe board yet.

Tandoori_Girl Feb 5th, 2005 08:41 AM

I say if they haven't posted on FFR&R or What's Your Poison, then they haven't passed muster (or whatever that saying is).

And aren't you just dying to have them post dissing each other's POV? One editor to another? Now that will be funny.

Tandoori_Girl Feb 5th, 2005 08:42 AM

And another thing...now that they've acknowledged we exist, when are we all going to get travel budgets? Hunh?!?!

wemr Feb 5th, 2005 08:46 AM

After seeing the segment about hidden cameras on 20/20 last night I wonder if they really Are watching us. Is there a hidden camera in the travel talk forum page? Is it in that little blue ball they added last fall? I agree with Suze. These editors are coming off like parents.

Anyone with a computer and online access can "watch" this forum. If you didn't think Fodor's employees/editors watched the Fodor's bulletin board prior to their affiliation appearing, well . . . gosh I don't even know what to say!!

Also, the editors who've introduced themself are both book editors so we aren't paying their salaries by visiting the Fodor's website. On the contrary, they are editing and building books which some pay money for and others access the same info online for free. Obviously they wouldn't offer this info online for free if it there wasn't benefit to Fodors, but it is certainly appreciated.

I think it's great that editors are announcing their presence versus just lurking.

AAaaaccccckkkkk!

If they know I'm nekkid, do they know about the other thing?

Can everyone see me or just the Fodors Editors?

suze Feb 5th, 2005 05:50 PM

Betsy- Not as frequent or obvious but at least one has posted on the European board too.

ira Feb 8th, 2005 06:02 AM

>Can they see me inside my home? Do they know what I'm doing?<

Only when our computer is on.

Has anyone noticed that you can't copy and paste the Holy Words

"*FODOR'S EDITOR"

TravelsHappy Feb 8th, 2005 07:11 AM

Always watching? Sort of like our parents when we were tykes. Do you even sleep, and if so, when ... that might be our time to cut up and violate a few norms. I'm only teasing ... no, no, please don't cancel my registration, no, no .... awwwwwwg ........gasp, expire.

yk2004 Feb 9th, 2005 07:48 AM

Maybe one of the Fodor's editors would want to come to the Dallas GTG and bring all of us some Fodors pins????

easytraveler Feb 9th, 2005 08:53 AM

How many? Mucho many.

This is the FODORS site, if anyone has a "right" to participate on these forums, surely it would be Fodor's own editors?

I say "welcome" and thanks for your valuable input. :)

PS, who would want to watch for hours someone who's gazing at their screen! How boring! That was a joke, right?

jorr Feb 9th, 2005 10:02 AM

snowrooster, Fodors (and all web sites) make money every time you click on the web site. It's called a click rate and advertisers use this number to determine how much they will pay to put a banner ad on the site. So you are getting something which is "free" but you are one of thousands of money makers for the site. Every time you enter the site Fodors (and other sites) make money. We are doing Fodors (and other sites) a huge favor, not the other way around.

GoTravel Feb 9th, 2005 10:05 AM

All of them?

suze Feb 9th, 2005 02:25 PM

Wow, then they're making a fortune off me!

jorr Feb 9th, 2005 07:45 PM

GoTravel, Yes, except for dot org's and dot gov's. I have worked with development of dot com sites and also attracting banner ad sponsors. Each person's click may only equal a fraction of a dollar. Mulitply this by thousands per day and its a profitable web site.
