Sunday night is perfect. I'll check into my inn ... I think rrkwan is trusting us to find a place to meet, so maybe you can do some browsing while you're there and I'll do some browsing onine!

rkkwan Sep 22nd, 2007 11:16 AM

Sunday night is fine with me. What kind of food are you guys interested in? Chinese, Cajun, TexMex?

cwn Sep 22nd, 2007 02:01 PM

Hi,

Is this a private gathering? Or will you let another Houstonian join you?

moneygirl Sep 22nd, 2007 03:09 PM

cwn:
As you can see, it looks like Sunday evening for dinner is the best day for us... you're welcome to join us! Since we have some time, we aren't pressed to choose a meeting place just yet.. in fact might you have some suggestions for us?!

rrkwan posted his email on the Asia board if you'd like to contact him so he can keep you updated.

Looking forward to meeting all of you nice Texans!

rkkwan Sep 22nd, 2007 08:11 PM

cwn - Absolutely join us. Any suggestion for place to eat on Sunday night?

TxTravelPro Sep 23rd, 2007 10:53 AM

If there are no strong opinions out there on the type of cuisine, I will say that Italian and Indian are my least favored. But I'll eat it and probably like it.
My favorites are New American, Thai, Mexican (if really, truly good) and Asian fusion type places.

easytraveler Sep 23rd, 2007 11:39 AM

Since I just got back last night from having met with moneygirl and laurenzo in a mini-GTG and since moneygirl mentioned how excited she was to come to Houston,

well,

Y'all have lots of fun, y'hear! :)

It isn't the size of the GTG, it's the PEOPLE Sure sounds like a great GTG in the making!

MSheinberg Sep 23rd, 2007 05:51 PM

I am also from Houston. Count me in also. I e-mailed moneygirl asking her to keep me posted about the Houston GTG.

moneygirl Sep 23rd, 2007 06:47 PM

Woohoo!! With rkkwan, txtravelpro, cwn, msheinberg and his wife and moi, we're up to six at least!

Too bad we can't get easytraveler and laurenzo to come out... they were fun last night and our reports are on the US board. They are both planning travel to MUCH more exotic locations that Houston... so I just sighed and after they spoke of Israel and Thailand... I got poetic about the great deal I got at the Lovett Inn! :)

Let the countdown begin!

MSheinberg Sep 23rd, 2007 07:13 PM

Just read about last night's GTG, can't wait till Nov. This is going to be fun.

moneygirl Sep 23rd, 2007 07:43 PM

We need moldyhotelsaregross!! Someone find her! Otherwise we won't have a winner for the best screenname contest!1

dfr4848 Sep 25th, 2007 05:35 PM

Well, you can probably count me in. Have been out of pocket lately but should be back to normal by early Nov. The Lovett (older nicely updated house) is close to the Za Za and there are plenty of nice places in the Montrose/Mid Town area. Would be nice area to have GTG

moneygirl Sep 25th, 2007 05:41 PM

dfr4848: Great... hope you can make it! Either e mail me at the address above or e mail rkkwan... he posted on the Asia and Europe boards and we'll send keep in touch!

Looks like there's 7 or 8 of us so far!

dfr4848 Sep 27th, 2007 10:32 AM

FWIW - Lovett Inn is about 2 blks east of Montrose and south of Westheimer. Za Za is at south end of Montrose next to Musuem of Fine Arts. There are a couple of very good Asian resuaurants on Montrose between the two - Khan's and the other whose name escapes me for the moment but I'll pass it along as soon as the memory returns (!). Raven Grill (American/SW "fusion") on
Bisonnett is also very close and a few blocks west of Montrose.

Debi - so sorry the timing isnt right for you.

MSheinberg Sep 27th, 2007 06:06 PM

Raven Grill is a good suggestion. It is always good. Good food, good location, good service, good prices.

moneygirl Sep 27th, 2007 06:32 PM

I believe rkkwan is still the coordinator of this evening... maybe e mail him your suggestions?

dh... I'm at the Lovett but TxTravelPro is at the Magnolia downtown... not at the ZaZa, in case that matters.

rkkwan Sep 27th, 2007 06:35 PM

It's okay. I am keeping track of all the suggestions. We still have time for suggestions, and then I'll put up a poll! :D

moneygirl Sep 27th, 2007 06:50 PM

You're scary rkkwan... WAY too efficient!!

moldyhotelsaregross Sep 28th, 2007 05:16 PM

"Otherwise we won't have a winner for best screen name..."

Thank you for making me LOL. :)

Looking forward to the fun.

dfr4848 Sep 29th, 2007 06:22 AM

FYI - the other Asian restaurant on Montrose I was thinking of was Thai Sticks.
