Thanks TheWeasel. WildWildWest is an easy cab trip to the strip and to the Airport. It's now a Station Casino, so I think the quality has improved. A good option on a very popular weekend. Again Woodstockguy, give this a try: http://www.wwwesthotelcasino.com/tem...img1.aspx?p=12

I am not recommending this hotel, but Knights Inn by the airport has availability on 11/10 at $69. La Quinta airport hotel is nicer and has rooms at AAA rate of $143 that night. I just chekced those two. You can read the tripadvior reviews on them. Personally I'd stay at the end of the strip by the airport in one of the so-called airport hotels rather than stay on the strip for 4 bills after a bargain vacation. I am staying at the Amerisuites airport hotel the night before my flight out, but it is booked for your night. Other airport hotels like Fairfield, Doubletree Club, Embassy Suites, and HoJo are sold out for your night, so if you want either of the two available above, book it now.
I think there is something to be said for not staying right on the strip after a trip to Sedona, etc. Staying on the strip is an assault to my senses after an AZ or Utah vacation, even just for one night. I've done it twice, and much prefer a non-gaming hotel off the strip if I am flying out of McCarran after one of those peaceful outdoors vacations. |
What time is your flight ? If it is not at the crack of dawn :-) try looking at motels in Boulder City. It's not that far and will not be $400. There are several "Station" hotels out that way as well as motels.

Priceline most likely wouldn't work in this case as it is a weekend night. If you do end up booking with Excalibur keep an eye on the price. We booked a stay there recently(weekend night) and the price dropped over $50 for that night as we got closer. They changed our price without fuss.

I am going to assume you still have your rental car. Texas Station has rooms at $169 for Nov. 10 - it's not close to the a/p but depending on your flight time it could work. Wild Wild West (Tropicana & I-15) has $129. Check Station Hotels for these rates. The hotels "closer in" and more "deluxe properties" are already sold out however.

tracys2cents,
What a difference a day makes...apparently 560% !!! |
If you still have your rental car I suggest the South Coast. It is a bit away from the action, but I just looked at the website and it gave a price of 139.00 a night. I just stayed there and it is very clean and nice.

Wow!! Everyone is being so helpful with suggestions.
I will have a car when I arrive and to return to the airport. I don't want to drink and drive Friday night and want easy access to the Strip, probably just for a few hours. I haven't yet checked Wild Wild West but will now. |
If the prices above are correct, South Coast would be a much better value than the less-than-stellar Wild Wild West motel.
Yes it's further away, but SouthCoast has shuttle to the strip if you don't want to drive, and also shuttle to the airport. |
As the original poster of the Wild Wild West suggestion, I would say with the free shuttle that South Coast is worth the extra $10.-. Tracy is right about it being a definite step up. I would check them out also, Woodstock guy.

Latest Report: South Coast was sold out when I checked online!!
I guess I ought to be glad I got any room at the MGM Grand. It will still be great at the end of our week. |
How about the Wild Wild West? I still think that's a good deal Woodstock Guy.

I went on Priceline and was lucky enough to get the Venetian half price the day before we arrived (we also stayed just one night).... You may want to try 3, 4 or 5 star hotels via Priceline. You can't pick the hotel but you can pick the area. I just started using them in the past 6 months and have been very lucky
|
have you tried booking through tripReservations or travelWorm?
|
Adnil1962, they (Priceline) are GREAT for Vegas. (And Chicago, Ft.Lauderdale and many other cities.)
I know it seems scary for some reason, but it WORKS WONDERFULLY. If you are still wanting to save a buck and have a good time. Do it. As per the above posts. |
If you only want a place to sleep might want to try Motel 6. It is several blocks off the strip (on Tropicana)in easy walking distance of NY-NY. Park in front of your room. $81.69 rooms available.

Hi everyone from the guy who posted this question and got lots of good responses. What did I do for my one night in Las Vegas? Well, I cancelled the plans!! Yes, 48 hours before I was to leave the Grand Canyon, I cancelled my one night at MGM Grand for $512 and changed my airline reservations to leave from Phoenix instead of Las Vegas. I had to take the midnight red eye to JFK for a nonstop flight, so I departed 12 hours earlier. It was worth the change to avoid Las Vegas for an overpriced overcrowded night. Still, I wanted to thank everyone for advice, which I can use in January, when I return to the SW and plan to stay over one night in Las Vegas.
Thanks again. |
Thanks for the update and look I forward to your trip report!
