Hotels Near Strip - Anything Reasonable?
I will be in Las Vegas for one night, Nov. 10, after visiting Arizone for a week. I leave Nov. 11 to fly east. All the hotels on the strip are very expensive for one night, probably because it is a holiday weekend. Many are sold out.
Any suggestions where I can find reasonably priced accommodations near the Strip? I have been in Las Vegas before, at the Mirage, Flamingo and Aladdin and I do not need to stay at the same type. My trip thru Arizona will be exciting and inexpensive, and I hate to blow a bargain vacation with a $400+ hotel for one quick night in Las Vegas. I do not mind a quick cab ride to the Strip for the few hours I will roam with the mobs.

I liked the Orleans also. I was there in 03 and 04. I have friends that were just there a couple months ago, and it's still a nice place/ good deal. It's just over a mile off the strip on Tropicana. I'm staying there next June for a family reunion. The GoldCoast one of their sister hotels is a good deal also, next to the Rio and across from the Palms on Flamingo.

I was thinking of going that weekend and had a hard time getting a room. Than I checked this:

I estimated about 45,000+ coming through town for conventiosn either right before or right after that weekend.
Can't help on a budget hotel.

Here are some ideas. I have heard good things about these places from friends and have visited the casinos but not stayed in the rooms:
Tuscany
Sams Town
Ellis Island
Sams is the farthest from the strip on Boulder Highway along with several other Hotel/Casinos. The other 2 are just a couple blocks off the strip on or near Flamingo.

There might be a convention arriving at the same time...I noticed rooms at Palace Station were $39 on Thursday and $219 on Friday.
Try TuscanyLasVegas, GoldCOastCasino, or SouthCoastCasino. South Coast is a long way from the strip but with free shuttle bus, and also shuttle to airport.
Super8 on Koval Lane will do in a pinch, or the La Quinta Inn on Paradise.

Priceline for Vegas is phenomenal. I would never pay rack rate in Vegas myself.
The Orleans' rack rate is great for what you get. I know at least 4 couples that go from Chicago and stay only there now, since they don't want to mess with discount brokers or unknowns.

Incredibly, just about every place suggested is sold out for the night of November 10. In a panic, I booked an overpriced room at MGM Grand for the night at over $400. Very disappointingly overpriced, and I may be able to switch to the Excalibur for a mere $377.
Sams Town, Tuscany, Orleans, Ellis Island, San Remo (hooters) and Best Western Mardi Gras were all sold out!! I never expected this problem when I arranged to fly out of Las Vegas at the end of my vacation to take advantage of more nonstop flights than were available from Phoenix. Oh well, live and learn.
Thanks to everyone for your suggestions and help.
