Currently only 95 degrees in western Nebraska--a break from the heat wave--ha! Our son played in a Rapid City, South Dakota soccer tourney last weekend in 109 degree heat. The refs stopped all games 3-4 times for water breaks. The fire in Deadwood made the air smoky to boot so we felt fresh as a daisy most of the time. Rain, please!!!!

Sorry, x, but according to my "Weatherbug," live from Nottingham Elementary in Arlington, VA, it's 99 degrees at 5:00 pm, and the heat index is ONE HUNDRED AND SIX.

80 here in Portland, OR today. Supposed to be 77 tomorrow. But I'll lay 10 to 1 odds that it will rain on the 4th.

It's 111 degrees in Phoenix with hardly any humidity. So in comparison to some of you we might actually be cooler.

Good thread.

Michelle Jul 2nd, 2002 02:13 PM

I'm actually afraid to leave the confines of my extremely air conditioned office to venture out into Midtown! Yikes! Waaaay to hot and so early! This should be happening end of July and into August not now!

Cindy Jul 2nd, 2002 03:43 PM

35 degrees Celsius in Toronto today, which is close to 100 Fahrenheit. And humid - and smoggy - and there is a garbage collectors' strike going on. Not a pretty picture. Fortunately I leave for British Columbia in 3 more days. Rumor has it, you can breathe there.

So hot in Philadelphia today (91 degrees at 7:30pm), I took a long cool bath and my cat joined me and of course..we shared the Prell.

cd Jul 2nd, 2002 04:08 PM

Prell!!!! Yikes!!! Don't use Prell on your hair, very, very alkaline!

Palo Alto, CA, just 44 miles south of SF on the Peninsula was 85 today with 16% humidity. This is why we live here!

geez Jul 2nd, 2002 05:57 PM

I am in Manhattan. Left a restaurant at 9pm tonight, and I felt like I was standing in the sun. It was still steamy hot.

What did people do 100 years ago? I feel so sorry (and thankful) that the immigrants coming to America made it through those heat waves in NYC.

lisa Jul 2nd, 2002 05:59 PM

Not to make anyone jealous, but it's 60 degrees with clear skies in Portland OR right now. It's been crystal clear and cool all day. Don't feel too bad. We make up for it in the winter, with constant grey days.

Cheryl Jul 2nd, 2002 06:42 PM

Buffalo - 92 degrees and 85% humidity today, and I'm not gonna complain one little bit! We're having a drought, though. It hasn't rained in so long that the leaves are falling off trees!

Janet Jul 2nd, 2002 07:09 PM

Well here is San Diego at Mission Beach.I get up in the morning a little overcast around 62, by 10:00 its around 72 a little breeze, the sun is shinning, a litttle ocean breeze. Its just heaven.

Right now in New York, it is in the low 90's. High humidity. You walk outside and you sweat instantly. If you are in a building without a/c, you are miserable.

But you know what? You still couldn't pay me to leave this city. It is the best, most exciting, and most invigorating place on earth!
