LN, nicely said ~ GoTravel's post was right on target.
It's blatantly clear that the *fans* here of *upscale* Hilton Head are indeed the *rudest* in this discussion. And isn't that interesting! They totally prove my point with their perfect (rude) example ~ money does NOT equal class! |
izzybellebutton, what is a carolinain?
Since there is no state of Carolina, I can only surmise that you are not from the southeast. As a South Carolinian who lives on the beach very near Hilton Head, I can proudly say I vacation in Myrtle Beach as do other South Carolinians. Whoever told you that natives don't vacation on our beaches was dead wrong. I have not seen these "sleezy, dirty, and just generally nasty" areas you speak of in Myrtle Beach. If your family is really from South Carolina, I doubt they would say such untrue things about Myrtle Beach. If they did, let me give you a little information for you to pass on to the relatives. 1) Tourism is the NUMBER ONE industry in the state of South Carolina. Yup, that's right. The number one revenue maker for the state is tourism. 2) Myrtle Beach alone generates TWO THIRDS of that revenue. 3) The tens of millions of people that visit Myrtle Beach each year spend tons of money which translates to tons of tax revenue. The tax revenue paid by out of towners goes back into our roads, schools, municipalities, etc. My property taxes are dirt cheap because of all of those wonderful wonderful people that visit the sunny shores of our beautiful South Carolina beaches every year. |
audra and ln: Very well put!!! To each their own. One must try to realize that just because someone has a different preference than their own, it does not mean the other person has no taste.
As I said in my previous post, I was at first emabarassed about MB...but I had not been there in over seven years at least. I was surprised at how nice it was up north. Less crowded than MB proper and much much nicer. Now, don't get me wrong. HH is nice. But those of you who prefer it can use tact, instead of coming off as though your tastes are superior to those who like MB. I prefer HH myself, but MB is not bad. There are some very expensive developments in MB that I am sure many of you who bash it could not afford to purchase property in. Let alone HH...which is far more expensive and exclusive. |
roseblum, my husband and I were visiting out of town guests at Wexford one afternoon. The owners who live in Wexford who are mutual friends, had to leave to go out of town and leave their out of town guests but urged us to use the country club.
After driving around Wexford gawking at Micheal Jordan's house, we went on the the club for Bloody Marys. We had a lovely time and the staff was impeccable. Just a class act. Only when we left did we see the brass sign politely requesting "No Bluejeans In The Clubhouse" that all four of us aghast realized we all had jeans on. The staff never said a word and the service could not have been nicer. Hilton Head is a class act. |
Just wanted to clear up so I don't seem snooty...
My thoughts on being embarassed about MB reflect what I thought of it before my recent visit. As I mentioned, I was pleasantly surprised! MB has a gotten an unfair rep due to certain parts. There are bad sections of town everywhere. There are very nice places in MB. I only prefer HH because MB is a little crowded for my liking. The traffic is outrageous. I do love Broadway at the beach and other places, though. I have fun while there. When I want a little less hectic time, I go to HH or Isle of Palms. Looking back, (I am guilty too) the poster asked about golf and what was better. We really got fired up. dolce: MB has a lot of great courses. It really has some top notch ones and there are so many. HH has less, but is is more consistently less touristy. It is really up to what you prefer. MB is not bad, so don't be scared off. There are also some great courses in southern NC just over the border. Like one poster said though, beware...September is prime hurricane time...they always seem to hit in Sept down here! |
Hi again folks
Now that we're back to Pleasantville again I'd just like to ask one question - I'll be visiting in Little River in October on my way south - where can I find a good handbag at a even better price? |
So, la_dolce_vita, what did you decide?
