Hi Editor Doug Stallings!

Hi Editor Doug Stallings! Tell us about yourself and your travels!

(Can we beat you up the way we beat up Danny when things didn't go well?):-D

ncgrrl Feb 1st, 2005 10:43 AM

Hi Editor Doug Stallings!

I don't know what you've heard/read about us, but we are one big, disfunctional family. Invite us for Thanksgiving, we'll bring a bottle of fabulous wine and stay at a hotel. We're usually good guests.

Just one request, if we're having fun on a non-travel related topic, could you please, pretty please, let us have our fun if it doesn't degrade into something ugly.

Thanks,

ncgrrl

PS Please remeber to tip the pilot.

Gardyloo Feb 1st, 2005 11:04 AM

Welcome indeed.

I'm sorry.

There, now I've repented from future sins. Let me know when the repentence account needs topping up.

gail Feb 1st, 2005 11:35 AM

If you want a sense about what we are all about - read thread on traveling to Las Vegas with triplets.

GoTravel Feb 1st, 2005 11:43 AM

Doug? Are you there?

ttt

Please wipe the drool from your chin...lol

Fodorite018 Feb 1st, 2005 12:32 PM

Have we scared him off already??? lol!

gail Feb 1st, 2005 12:43 PM

If Doug has nothing else to do but read these silly threads then Fodors will have to fund his salary with lots of extra pop-up ads - give the guy a break, he probably has a real part of his job, too.

Statia Feb 1st, 2005 01:05 PM

Howdy editor Doug! Glad to have you aboard! :)

FainaAgain Feb 1st, 2005 01:08 PM

Dear Doug,
We really would like you to come out and play. But we know with the new job and all, that it is probably pretty tough. I imagine you are drinking alot of coffee and in alot of long meetings. So just know we are thinking of you and all you do for all of us who are out here banging away on the keyboard on this site.
And Doug, when you get ready to go on your first vacation in your new position, please Doug- post a question for us!!! We'd be honored to help you.
Sincerely,
the fodorites

OneWanderingJew Feb 1st, 2005 04:43 PM

Dear Doug,
Enjoy your new position. I'm sure some of us will keep you laughing and others will cause you to use your 'delete' key.

OWJ

To Patrick: You're baaad tawking like that in front of the big guy ;-)

Marilyn Feb 1st, 2005 05:39 PM

Oooo, a new whipping boy!
Seriously, welcome to Doug. Danny left some big shoes behind, but I'll bet you can fill them.

ellen_griswold Feb 2nd, 2005 05:09 AM

Hi Doug, welcome! Soo nice to 'see' you here. I'm sure you've already noticed that the folks of Fodorville are a wild, wonderful bunch. Hope you have a great time hanging out with us! :)

JackOneill Feb 2nd, 2005 05:34 AM

Hey, Doug-

Welcome to our little world. I have to ask: Do you dislike monkeys as much as Danny did? You know, most monkeys travel well.

Yawn_boring Feb 2nd, 2005 06:21 AM

Jack,
Someone had to do it! Bringing up the dreaded topic of monkeys. We're in trouble now...!

GoTravel Feb 2nd, 2005 07:12 AM

Dougie! Come out and play with the fodorites!:-D

SergioL Feb 2nd, 2005 07:58 AM

Doug, you're familiar with "psychophant", yes?

FainaAgain Feb 2nd, 2005 08:39 AM

Ohhh, Marilyn, don't start us on shoes! Lost on airplanes, spotted by highways... Memories, memories :)

Budman Feb 2nd, 2005 08:47 AM

Hey Doug,

How can I get my Fodorite Pin? Could you please send me one? ((b))

ahhnold Feb 2nd, 2005 08:50 AM

Hey Doug, Can we change the rules to make politics fair game?

How about Ward Churchill?

Marilyn Feb 2nd, 2005 09:19 AM

PINS! YES! We all want pins!
Don't you people realize we would even pay for them? You could make a profit AND get your name out there even more.

GoTravel Feb 2nd, 2005 10:15 AM

I want my pin! Just because I was traveling while Fodors was offering the free pin for early registration doesn't mean I should be pinalized.

Did we scare Doug off?

cd Feb 2nd, 2005 10:57 AM

Go travel
It wasn't a pin, it was some danged magnets.

JackOneill Feb 2nd, 2005 10:59 AM

I got a pin. I would have preferred magnets. Magnets with picture of monkeys on them.

Marilyn Feb 2nd, 2005 11:12 AM

Jack, send me your pin and I'll send you some magnets with monkeys on them. Seriously.

doug_stallings Feb 2nd, 2005 12:02 PM

Hi Everyone.

I posted a few things yesterday afternoon before I left the office, but I haven't been on today. I'll actually try to come online every once in a while, but I'm an editor over on the book-side, and the Web is just a sideline (I used to post regularly on the Blog, though not as regularly as some). A lot of us will be coming on from time to time to give you our 2 cents. I am very opinionated (ask anyone at Fodor's), so I'm certain I will have a lot to say. Now a few things:

1. I'm not really new. I've been an editor for Fodor's for almost 5 years, just with the books. And I've been editing travel books for a lot longer than that. The Web programmers just put this highlight thing on my posts and my name.

2. I'm planning a trip to Egypt for myself and some friends for this fall, so you are likely to see me asking for advice as much as giving it over the coming weeks and months.

3. I'm not sure how Danny's antipathy for monkeys developed (and did he dislike monkeys or "monkeys"?). At any rate, I like them, though I did handily avoid the monkey forest in Bali a couple of years ago because they monkeys looked mean and dirty.

4. I don't handle the programming of the Web site, so please don't beat up on me. I also don't really police the forums ... I just participate from time to time.

5. I'll tell you more eventually, but I don't want you to get tired of me.

cd Feb 2nd, 2005 12:12 PM

Doug Stallings
How nice that you actually TALKED to us! I'm impressed.

JackOneill Feb 2nd, 2005 12:48 PM

Ah, the monkeys from Bali!!!! It all makes sense now.

GoTravel Feb 2nd, 2005 12:59 PM

Aha. So you dislike mean dirty monkeys from Bali?

What is it about working for Fodors makes one dislike monkeys?

Do all Fodors Editors dislike monkeys?

Is this a prerequisit for employment?

Marilyn Feb 2nd, 2005 01:11 PM

Hi Doug!
I think the question that inquiring minds want to know is whether you are Danny's replacement. Or has fodors decided we don't need supervision? (Yikes.)
In any case, welcome, and if you have strong opinions you should fit in very nicely here in Virtual Fodorville.

doug_stallings Feb 2nd, 2005 01:19 PM

I'm not Danny's replacement, and I'm not sure that anyone can adequately fill his shoes. Someone will be policing the forums, but I actually don't know how that's done or how it was done in the past, for that matter. I'm still relatively blissfully unaware of how the web site is administered and overseen. I just get the fun of participating.

Budman Feb 2nd, 2005 04:22 PM

Doug!!!! Fodor's Pin. I feel the need. Can you help? ((b))
