Attitude and rude go together in hand. Key West is well noted for this. This is no troll I'm giving you the facts. If you are wanting to go some where in the keys for rest and relaxation then go to any of the other keys. They are more laid back and restfull then Key West was or will be. The tourist there are there for a couple of reasons mostly to get drunk and spend there money on food that isn't all that great. The other keys treat you with respect and don't rip you off. The restaurant and shopping owners treat you with respect. You other poeple don't know Key West to well or you would be giving more positive information. Why Key West dosn't have an attitude he is giving you correct info. Go explore the other keys and see what we are talking about. You want tropical paradise then go to the other keys and see it.
All the Keys are full of wonderful people, food, activities and other finds. I have never experienced a rude person once and I have been going to the Keys for more years to count. Go to Key West.
I go annually (& have for several years) & have never encountered the first bit of rudeness. From the places you mention you apparently never wandered off of Duval St. You reap what you sew.....If it was so bad the first time why did you go back ? It sounds like you were probably a cruiser & never actually stayed there.....
You're right, SA, I have never actually stayed in Key West. Both times I encountered the rudeness was when I was in port, but believe me I would NEVER plan a vacation someplace where I was treated rudely. A lot of cruisers plan vacations around what they see in ports. I spent a week in St. Thomas after I had a good experience there while docked for the day.

I still believe that an economy so based on tourism should be nicer to the tourists. Key West could make a lot of money from cruisers who are looking for a land vacation if the people gave off a good first impression.
Good call SA. You nailed that one!
I just want to know what you ("Why Key West") would even know about the nightlife if you were there on a cruise? Why would you even comment on it if you never experienced it?
What time do you think the nightlife gets good in Key West? And are you saying the bars on Duval St. are not considered Key West nightlife? I didn't leave Key West until midnight and nothing much was going on. I guess I just assumed it would be livelier. Look I never said I was an expert on Key West. I am simply giving my opinion like all of the other posters.
And how could she even try to comment on the food! Key West has some of the best restaurants but if she didn't even leave Duval Street she probably ate at The Hogs Breath. Next time stay home.
nightlife = life at night or when dark.
First of all, why does everyone assume I'm a "she"?

Oh, and news flash, at midnight it is usually dark outside.

Btw, I'm not the only one who thinks Key West is overrated. I'm amazed how many people are offended by an opinion. It's just my thoughts- they don't have to be yours!
Well "why", you sure gave your opinion like you knew what you were talking about. Apparently you didn't.
Here is the typical 'cruise expereience' in regards to Key West. 12 hours, do the Conch Train ride, go to Margaritaville, have a drink @ Sloppy Joe's, never leave Duval St. How about the Hemingway House, The Fort, the art galleries, a plethora of good restaurants (again very few on Duval), staying @ an awesome B & B w/palms & a nearly private pool, snorkeling in the Dry Tortugas, taking a sunset cruise & the list goes on. I won't comment on your cruise board because I can't stand being trapped on a boat w/a bunch of drunks. Don't comment on things you know nothing about...This board is to share info & you have none so move on.
I'll make this comparison & drop it unless coolcrusier wants specifics in regards to places to stay & restaurants. Going to Key West & not leaving Duval St. is much like visiting New Orleans (another city I love) & not leaving Bourbon St. Everyone can draw their own conclusions. Ciao

I have to agree w/ some of the posts..Key Wests stinks!!!Literally. The streets are filthy, theres a stench in the air and the main thing to do down ther is sit in a bar and drink..The main activity in Key West is drinking. I have never seen so many drunk people-most were older men-60's in my life. They start drinking at the bars before noon. There is nothing tropical about Key West. The beaches are far and few in b/w they are dirty and homeless people live there. The beaches are equivalent to the Jersey Shore..Nothing tropical..It is more of a city than anything else..very crowded w/ people walking down Duval street. Duval street is nothing more than a long strip of bars, homeless people begging for $ and cheesy touristy stores...I couldnt wait to go home..We were there for 1 week..If you are into nightlife
and drinking every nite than Key West is the town. If you are looking for upscale tropical and clean DO NOT go to Key West. Iam not exaggaretaing.
Weve been to Hawaii, Caymans, Bermuda-go to any of those places..Take a cruise that stops at Grand Caymans..Very beautiful beaches and very tropical

The above post gives a better picyure than I do. They are right on target. Get it people. I know there are good places to eat off of Duval. 7 Fish, Half Shell Raw Bar, Turtle Kraal's, Rusty Anchor, Cafe Des Artistes, A&B Lobster, Mangia Mangia, Michels, El Siboney,B's Restaurant and lunch at Alonzo's Oyster Bar and Louies's Backyard, drinks in the evening for sunset at the Afterdeck. So get off his butt (Why Key West) and try to share his opinion.
