Help needed for biddingfortravel.com

Not really sure how this website works. If I bid for a hotel room and it is accepted, do I have to pay for it immediately? Or do I pay when I stay like a regular booking? Any other info you could pass on would be great! Thanks

Anthony Nov 20th, 2002 08:02 AM

You don't bid on this website. Instead, it's an online bulletinboard for advice on how to bid on Priceline.com. You use the information that you read from biddingfortravel to give you some gguiddance to what kind of hotels will come up if you bid a particular city on Priceline, and at what prices others have gotten their bids acceepted. You can also ask for advice on how to bid for a particular city or airfare. Before asking for advice, though, you must read through all the required info and provide in your email request all the information they request, in order for them to suggest a bidding strategy.

Martha, Biddingfortravel.com is very self explanatory. There is no way you can go on the site and NOT realize that you don't bid on it.

This innocent little question is more advertising BS from BFT. EVERYTHING is explained on that site and if it's not done to your satisfaction, then ask there, like everyone else. Or, if you are so reading impaired as to not comprehend this most basic function, then you don't need to be involved there, or maybe even travel, at all. I suspect that is not the case, however. This is an underhanded attempt for some free advertising.

Actually, I never even went to the website. I, like most VP's, rely on those beneath me to do my menial work! You did not disappoint. Good work, boys!

You go Martha!!!

Sheryl's Husband Nov 20th, 2002 10:57 AM

Here's how BFT works:

You post valid questions to be answered by the knowledgeable folks who make BFT worthwhile and this idiot named Sheryl jumps in and tells you that you didn't follow some stupid posting guidelines and tries to manage the entire thread despite the fact that the 'users' are the ones that actually contribute the info. THen she'll tell you to use the banner ads to go to priceline so the site gets revenue and never, NEVER, mention the word Hotwire. You try being married to her!!!

Sheryl's Neighbor Nov 20th, 2002 02:57 PM

She is often rude and condescending about people's questions, and if they are not asked in the right way, they get deleted. If you can deal with her lack of social skills, the site can steer you to some good bargains and strategies. Now, you try living next door to her. She is always telling me I am running my life the wrong way.

Unfortunately, biddingfortravel is the best site for Priceline bidding intelligence. I say unfortunately because it would be even better and have more postings if it weren't for the hostess's mean spirited attitude towards the people who make the site valuable. She thinks since it's "hers" that justifies behavior one wouldn't exhibit at a dinner party.

Andrew Nov 20th, 2002 06:42 PM

Biddingfortravel.com is a great site with lots of useful information about Priceline bidding. The people who whine about it cannot accept that it is (like Fodors) a privately-run forum strictly dedicated to Priceline bidding ONLY. People who run such sites have every right to do whatever they wish with messages posted there.

One of the BFT administrators named Sheryl strictly monitors the site to make sure posts adhere to the guidelines. Sometimes Sheryl comes across as a little harsh (it's deceiving), but by enforcing the guidelines, she makes the site much more useful by eliminating most of the crap. Notice there's a lot of "noise" on forums like this one...

I've posted dozens of messages on BiddingForTravel over the last year and never had one deleted or even edited. Maybe that's because the guidelines are common sense to me so I have no trouble abiding by them? If you follow the guidelines, you like so many others will find BiddingForTravel.com friendly and useful for saving lots of money with Priceline!

Andrew
My, my, Andrew. Aren't you just soooooo special?

Sheryl's Neighbor Nov 20th, 2002 11:28 PM

Does anyone else think Andrew and Sheryl are the same person.

Ifyoudontlikeit Nov 21st, 2002 01:07 AM

Andrew IS right. Sheryl does keep things focussed. She's providing an invaluable service, which has surely saved people millions of dollars, and it doesn't cost any individual a dime. If she gets upset enough, and hangs it up, the users go back to paying a lot closer to full-pop to assure reservations. Save me big money, and I'll play by your publicly-stated rules. Sheryl deserves a pat on the back.

MeThinks Nov 21st, 2002 04:21 AM

Andrew is either on their payroll or a wannabe. It's been established that he runs a website to figure out the hotel rates. He staunchly defends them whenever someone throws light on the "unfortunate" aspects of BFT and Priceline. Friendly site my eye. She is curt and rude, not even thinly veiled. There are serious downsides to PL. It's a risk. If saving is that vital to you, then take the risk. I took it once. Got an interior room overlooking a pool that was loud all day long and once during the night when revelers decided to take a 2AM swim in the closed pool. "No, we can't change your room at the rate you paid". Lovely, in other words, cheapo person gets the cheapo room. No deal is worth a marred vacation.

xxx Nov 21st, 2002 04:35 AM

Me thinks you is right. It is the old saying you get what you pay for. One wrong move or complaint and I am sure the hotel is very quick to just about say those same words. Thanks but no thanks.

I don't agree with those who think that Priceline is not a great way to get decent rooms at super prices.

Andrew, you are clearly on Sheryl's payroll or in her knickers or something.

There is no question that BFT is a private site and the owner(s) can do what they wish with it.

Tina's point, I think, is that because of Sheryl's attitude, a lot of people shy away from posting and therefore the site is not as informative as it could be.

The value of BFT is derived in great part from the participation of those who post. The value added in paying for hosting the site is nice, but what value would it have if no one posted?

And no, it's not deceiving. She comes across as a nasty person and people generally don't want to have much to do with people like that.

Jen Nov 21st, 2002 05:35 AM

If you check out some of Sheryl's more recent conversations, I think you will find that she has mellowed a bit. Stress of dealing with people who can't follow directions would make anybody cranky.

Too Nov 21st, 2002 06:29 AM

Call me inept, but I found it very, very cumbersome to post to BFT. I had a few questions but it wasn't worth the considerable effort and pages of marketing propaganda one has to go through just to get registered. Then you have to wait for some 3rd party site to get back to you before you're even registered. What a pain in the ass.

If they didn't make it so hard to post, BFT would be a much better site. I can't be the only one turned off by their considerable registration process.

I
