Hawaii fares are down

Hawaiian Air is offering a fare of $449, RT Portland (OR) to Honolulu with Saturday departure in January 2003. Dang it. If I'd waited a little longer to buy, I would have saved $200! #@%*&#!

yipee the prices are down.

xx Nov 16th, 2002 06:21 AM

Anyone seen any low prices from Detroit, MI?

eL Nov 16th, 2002 09:12 AM

$449 from the westcoast to HI... that sounds a little high actually. Check travelocity.com or expedia.com. You should be able to find RT aifare for about $400 all the time. If you check often enough, you'll catch it around $250-300 from Seattle, SF or LA.

lax-hnl on ATA is now down to $198 after Jan 14.

Pdxer Nov 16th, 2002 12:51 PM

I do check Travelocity regularly. They generally show a fare under $400, but it is never available when I want to go, it's not on Hawaiian Air, and it requires you to go through LAX or SFO, nearly doubling the travel time of a direct flight from PDX to HNL on Hawaiian. The flight I'm taking in January (on a Saturday) has been consistently listed for $625 or higher since last spring. This is the first time it has been this low - believe me, I've done the homework.

Flights are down $250 in Canada too. I bought my tickets 1 month too soon! I've noticed hotel availability is still strong too.

Me@GoingToHawaiiForChristmas

Plz tell me which part of Canada did you see fares at $250.00 to Hawaii. I'm in Windsor and haven't seen that price?

me Nov 18th, 2002 01:47 PM

I found the fair on Expedia.ca. I paid 1000 a ticket from calgary. Expedia had the fair at $750 (wich my parents booked through). I'm not sure if there are any seats left. Good Luck!

RE: dejahma:

I saw that fare on ATA on Monday night from SF to HNL for $198 R/T! I put 2 tix on hold through Expedia and went to purchase yesterday morning and the fare had changed to about $350! Man, I was UPSET! I'm waiting for the fare to go down to $350 round trip from the eastcoast like it did last year around this time.

Sarah Nov 20th, 2002 10:02 AM

eL I have been watching fares for about 5 years to Hawaii. That $350 fare last year was the lowest ever. It appeared in January though not November. So I would not be hopping for a fare drop before 1/1 if it drops that low again.

You could try a bid at $350 if you can't wait for Jan.

eL Nov 21st, 2002 06:38 AM

RE: Sarah: Well, I saw the fare for $350 in Nov. last year. It was around the 1st or 2nd week in Nov. but you had to travel by the end of the month. The fare was good from BWI, DCA, LGA, JFK, etc.

Eddie Nov 21st, 2002 06:51 AM

I am not sure about that eL I was watching fares last year also and I only saw a fare drop in January. Actually you can do a archive search here to confirm. I remember when everyone starting coming on to sing their success.

Thanksgiving for Hawaii is traditionally pretty tough. A lot of local people are flying home for the holidays. Although 911 could have sparked the sale you are talking about. I only know that for my family we did not see any fare drops on Continental, United, Delta or American from JFK, EWR, LGA, PHL.
rg Nov 21st, 2002 07:13 AM

Hi - Mid March 2002 we flew from Pocatello Idaho to Maui for $365.00! In 2000 we flew from Salt Lake City to Maui for 728.00 (end of May). I think 911 had alot to do with our fare last year and doubt we will ever see it that low again. But after January 1st start watching - fares well be good but only about 30 to 60 days out when advertised. Usually for FEB, 1st two weeks of March, and May. Good Luck!

I just booked a flight out of Oakland, CA to Honolulu for $250 inc taxes via Suntrips
(www.suntrips.com). Now I need to find a cheap hotel :)

eL Nov 25th, 2002 08:34 AM

Is Suntrips really as bad as people say? Or is it just a low-budget airline like Southwest? Also, are they afiliated with any other airlines and have a frequent flyer program?

xxx Nov 25th, 2002 11:19 AM

Michael Roberts - when is your trip?

eL Nov 25th, 2002 12:43 PM

We're planning on going March '03 to the Big Island or Oahu.
