Hawaii Car Rental Codes
Are there any car rental codes available for July and August?
Thanks! |
What island, what size car and for how many days or weeks?
|
I just checked rentalcodes.com for our trip to Kauai this July/August and there doesn't seem to be anything like the 6T code I got last year from Alamo yet. Too early maybe?
-Bill |
Yes, 6T was great for convertibles :)
Anyone out there now or who brings back tourist booklets etc look in Maui Gold or equivalent, Alamo was advertising that code in them when it was valid so maybe they'll repeat the favor ! |
We will be on the BI for 4 nights (flying into Kona and leaving from Hilo) and Kauai for 7 nights. Since there are 5 of us, we need something roomy. We had an Escape when we went to Kauai last time and really liked it. We have never been to the BI so can anyone recommend the best car for that island? Do you really need 4 wheel drive?

If you belong to AARP go to their website or go directly to National car rental and use Contract ID 6100120.
I don't go to Kauai for another 300 days LOL but I have already booked through 3 different vendors and canceled. This deal through AARP saved me over $100.00! |
Ashley,
Found any good deals yet? -Bill |
Try Budget.com for a Ford Escape, plug in discount code X443013
|
I will be in Maui for 5 days in August and would like to rent a convertible. I'll be in Big Island for 5 days also. Any suggestions where to get a low cost rental?
|
dkaymarie,
I just reserved a Sebring convertible through Thrifty on Kaua`i for $198.00 a week plus all the add-ons. It comes to around $480.00 for two weeks which is a pretty good deal. IMHO a convertible is worth the xtra bucks. -Bill |
I tried the Budget website and this is what I found:
4 nights on BI for a midsize SUV: 151.96 and for a standard SUV it is 170.96. Which size is a Ford Escape, do you think? On Kauai, the prices are as follows: Midsize SUV 238.39 for a week and Standard SUV 244.79. Can I do better than this or should I book them??? |
Have you tried priceline.com? Look at www.biddingfortravel.com first to see what others got through priceline and then you'll be able to judge what you should bid.

Ashley, go to entertainment.com....I ended up with an intermediate car thru National for 10 days on Kauai for $158 bottom line.
|
This link has a few promotion codes from various vendors that are still active:
http://www.betterbidding.com/index.p...amp;t=238& However, I've tried many promotion codes for many car rental companies, and none of them can even come close to matching Thrifty's normal rates (for a mid size car in Lihue in mid july). To top it off, there is a current promotion at Thrifty for 5% off if you use code AU11 (or 5512 if you are an AAA member). The only exception I found is if you want a convertible, which works out better with Budget if you buy and use the Entertainment promotion code mentioned earlier. |
Upon more promotion code plugging, it looks like Thrifty is cheaper for economy to midsize, while Budget is cheaper for SUV, convertibles, and minivans.
|
Are there any discounts for less than a full week? We are arriving on the BI on a Sunday and leaving on a Thursday.
|
On Maui, my research found that regular Thrifty rates were the best: $152 (which includes all taxes & fees) for 9 days for a compact 4 door.
|
We're going to Kauai in June and will rent a car. I can't find rentalcodes.com. What is this?? Steph

Rentalcodes.com is an on-again/off-again website that is a sort of clearing house for offers that the major rental car companies are offering. I just tried the site and it is up and working again.

Good info about several ways to get discounts on car rentals is on this web page:
www.mauihawaii.org/carrental.htm |
Using costco discount & coupons from their travel magazine is usually a good deal. Especially for Alamo, keep an eye on the rates using Orbitz, then when it's about it's lowest, go directly to the car rental website and book with the costco coupon, it usually includes an extra driver at no additional cost and it does NOT have to be a spouse.
Last week we got an intermediate for a week rental in Maui for $119 inc. taxes. |
Greetings!
I've been looking to book a car for Oahu and the BI for October. I got an Avis car for Oahu via USAA: Your Base Rate for a 3 day(s) 18 hour(s) rental is: 68.00 USD Surcharge : 21.78 USD • $3.00 per day (Hawaii State Surcharge) • (up to) $0.50 per day (Vehicle License Fee) • 11.11% (Concessionaire Fee) Tax: 3.24 USD ( 4.166%) Approximate Total: 93.02 USD Compact (4 Door) Chevrolet Cobalt or similar This comes to about $17/day. Do you think this is a good price? Or should I try priceline? Thanks! Monica |
We booked 4 days on Oahu with Avis USAA for $79.00.
I started booking 3 months out, and their price was $122. Once a week I would log on, and it seemed the price would drop, so I cancelled one and booked the new price. I think it was 2 weeks before my trip when I finally got the $79 price. Same thing for a week on Kauai. Started at $156, and finally paid $117. It's a supply and demand thing, I believe. ((b)) |
Thanks Budman.
Did you do this on the USAA sight or Avis? Monica ((F)) |
Thru the USAA site. ((b))
