Has Everyone gone to Hawaii?
This used to be a very active board but it seems that 'attendance' has dropped off lately. Its probably because I am planning my trip and I am noticing less participation than usual. Where is everyone?
|
I dearly love Hawaii, but haven't been since 2000--too expensive, and I live on the West Coast! Florida, California aren't quite as great as Hawaii IMO, but sooo much cheaper!
|
Most likely you're right, every year we slow down during the summer months.
Only the unfortunate ones like myself are still here going to that dreaded 4-letter w-word (WORK) to make money for future trips :) And just for the record, never been to Hawaii. Maybe that's why I am here, not there? |
Just got back from two weeks in Hanalei. Heavenly! Did a whole lot of nuthin' and loved every minute of it.
|
I just got back yesterday from a week long stay on Oahu, I'll be posting a trip report soon. So awesome!
|
I'm here counting down the weeks until my next trip...six weeks yet to go... haven't been anywhere since February and am itching to leave town!
We took our second trip to Hawaii in January 2005. |
My Hawaiian trips are usually winter ones. And this year I went to Mexico instead.
|
I just got back from two weeks in Kauai. Loved every minute of it. I am already planning on going back in March.
((D))8-) |
I'm heading to Oahu at the end of September. I just got the great airfare -- $259.44 (total w/ tax and fees) roundtrip through www.airtohawaii.com!
|
AnnMarie, We leave in six weeks too. Can't wait.
|
Trip to Maui for 9 days in the later part of Sept. Everything except golf and restaurants booked.
|
Faina2 in a bikini!!!! :-O
DC, what islands? I thought you went to Kauai already? :-? |
Hi Dawn, sorry for the confusion (it's a specialty of mine). You're going to Hawaii in six weeks!! I'm going to Aspen--compare and contrast! ;-) Enjoy a wonderful trip!!! :-)
|
Hi Kal. We went to Kauai about 4 years ago but we are going again. We will spend 3 nights at the Hale Koa in HNL, 5 nights at Lae Nani (Outrigger) on Kauai and 9 nights at the Ka'anapali Alii. Can't wait.
|
Most excellent!!!
We have 185 mo' days. You pretty much dialed in on stuff on Kauai then yah?((H)) jammer wrote a nice TR of Kauai with his two Tasmanian she-devils. I'm still laffin' at Dorf!!! |
Kal, look here:
www.bikini.com you get bikini for boys, and we'll let all Fodorites compare our pictures - who looks better We can have a GTG in Chicago. It's on the way to HI, right? ;) |
I don't mind a Bikini Atoll! :))
Maybe Lil' Mak will wear one in Chicago since we'll be by the river??? :-" |
We're going for our 3rd trip to Hawaii in about 6 weeks :) Can't wait to read everyone's trip reports!
|
Kal.....every time I think about the Dorf incident my knees begin to ache:'(.
|
Just back from Telluride Colorado (do the islands in winter).
|
jammer...I'm still figuring out how she did it!!!
OUCH!!!! |
LvSun......unless you live in ((#))Phoenix((#)), then you do the islands in the summer and Telluride in the winter.
((D))8-) |
Only one way you can do it, Kal. You have to be 12 years old. That leaves us just slightly out of the age range. Oh, you must also be a little bit insane.
((D))8-) |
Yep, Dorf was funny! Well, no, it was hilarious!
I want in on the Hawaii Kountdown, but I can't count that high so........ arrive on The Big Island on March 25th and on Kauai on March 29th...have to come back home on April 11th! Just now hung up the phone..we are gonna stay 4 days at The Beachboy or whatever it is called. Right there behind Coconut Marketplace where HukiLau Lanai is!! So, how come y'all are having a Chicago GTG and didn't invite any of us? ((r))i'2 |
I've been 4 times although it's been since 2002 for me. It's hard to hit those times when airfare is affordable to HI. Late April/ May and mid Sept. to mid Nov. seem to be better. But It's hard for me to get away in those times, LOL. I'm on the west coast too Quackerbacker. :-)
|
Well, I'm heading to HNL the last week of August, for the HNL GTG. This will be my 5th trip to Oahu. I'm really looking forward to meeting the HI fodorites.
|
((R))i'2......what do you mean by Hawaii Kountdown?? Are you referring to the Krazy Kal Kahuna Komplicated Kauai Kountdown Kontraption? Only Kommitted Kauai Kommandos & Komrades have access. I am not sure that you Kualify since you are going to the BI first. But, you might ask the Klock Keeper for a Key.
((D))8-) |
Hot dang, jammer, you do want to be a member of the Klub, dontcha? ((r))
|
The Krazy Kal Kahuna Komplicated Kauai Kountdown Kontraption really isn't Kuite that Komplicated: http://tinyurl.com/2oey9
It can also be used for retirements! \:D/ |
Hi Dawn,
I'm going to Hawaii in August and I've also noticed a little less activity than usual. Maybe it's the nice summer weather....or maybe it's just because I'm counting the seconds til this trip and am completely obsessed with reading anything I can about Oahu and BI :) |
LIB danged...I don't have to kount now...the kontraption did it for me!
Only 6,624 hours until Kauai! |
Why kal! That's pure magic!!!
|
I was in Hawaii last May LOVED every second. Went to 4 islands, Oahu, Maui,Big Island, and Kauai. They are all so different. Stayed in wonderful hotels. Heavenly trip!!! Whenever you go....lucky you!
|
I WISH I was in HI, but I am here, in glorious Wisconsin. But I can't complain, I did get to Kauai in Jan. and in two weeks we are off to England until the end of August! I have side trips planned to Dublin and Berlin.
In the meantime though, I am outside enjoying a rather perfect (low 70s) summer. |
Klub?....Klub??? What klub???:-" I heard that the K9 Klub was ruled illeagal by the powers that be at Fodor's, and being involved in any Klub activity is grounds to have ones passport konfiscated for up to a year. After January you can't get to Kauai without your passport and shots.
((D))8-) |
Remember to exchange your currency before you go over.
|
Right, and the Kaua'i Puka is rising against the US$ so traveling over there is going to get more expensive.
((D))8-) |
quackerbacker that's a nice name anyway we have found just the opposite to be true for us. We got back early May from our third trip to the islands and just found out we're probably going back next year for our daughter's wedding. We found a place on Kauai for $85 a night across the road from the ocean. On Oahu the last two times stayed at the Royal Grove for $62 a night two blocks from the beach. I haven't been able to find anything like that in Ft. Lauderdale or San Diego, but still like them both. Our big expense is the airfare whether gas price is up or down.

AnnMarie_C,
is hawaii a good destination for christmas and new years? i guess i thought it was a summer destination, and not a fall/winter spot. i am looking for a christmas location for my exptended family, youngest aged 11 oldest aged 72 w/asthma, with teen and adult hikers and adventurists in between. there are only 6 of us. this christmas, we want to forgo any gifts and travel. i was wondering about hawaiian islands. tell about the season as you found it... thanks, corwin |
corwin
aren't you on the east coast and wouldn't it be easier to go to the Caribbean? Reading your post on the 4th of July, I think your a little disingenuine. Sorry, but you don't seem very serious about the Hawaii inquiry or I'd be more helpful. Brian |
