Has anyone given you a special gift from Hawaii?

Just had to share...

DH had a fresh tropical floral bouquet delivered yesterday from Hana... a wonderful surprise for my birthday... pink & red torch
ginger, 4 varieties of bird of paradise, pink & red anthirium, orchids, bright green foliage... I'm in heaven here in IL.

Curious if anyone has ever received something special from Hawaii?

Hubby has several clients from Hawaii that always bring us boxes of Hawaiian candy like chocolate covered Macadamia nuts, turtles, and such. Makes us always want to go back! Was your birthday yesterday? Mine's today! Go Sagitarius!

Aloha Nataliemm,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Nov 26 for me... isn't it wonderful having a Thanksgiving
B-day?? Have a good one!

Something I bought for myself on Maui was a number of bars of the coconut and mango soap varieties(at $8 a bar!YIKES). It's truly delightful to shower with it. My dh went to Europe for two weeks (I'm at home) and I think he took one of my LAST bars with him!!! GRRRR (he likes it too) So you think I need to go back to Hawaii while he's gone to replenish my supply?? LOL

Carol, I wonder if the soap you use is from www.kopahaiku.com ? I like that one.

simpsonc510 Nov 28th, 2003 04:22 AM

Melissa,
I think the name had two initials in it.. like B.J. or something. The last bar has been opened and the wrapping is gone. Woe is me...

I'll check the web site you mentioned. I will recognize the soap label and will order some, if it's the right one.

Thanks!
Carol

Aloha Carol,

You definitely need to go back ;)

I just pulled my catalog for islandsoap.com... they're out of Kapa'a
Kauai... I've been ordering soap & candles from them for a few years...
mango & coconut w/ guava soap available!

What would we do without the simple reminders of the islands. I'm still ordering 100% Kona coffee... we give it to our HI loving friends for Christmas and birthdays!

Aloha to you...

Happy Birthday! My husband's was on the 25th. ;-)

When we were in Maui in May, I sent a bouquet of flowers (very similiar to the ones you described) to my mother-in-law for dogsitting while we were there. She absolutely loved them.

Right now...a case of fresh Hawaiian pineapples sound really good!

Aloha Bogart,

Maybe we should have Kal send some next month???? ;)

Aloha, Makai1
I've done a google search of Maui soap and can NOT find the kind I brought home. It was a small shop on Front St in Lahaina. I searched suitcases for a left over plastic bag from the store (I save the bags-- you never know when you might need a name!!) but I couldn't find one. Now I'm blue...
Guess I'll plan a visit to Maui real soon (yeah, right!)
Still searching... wish me luck...

Carol, upon your return to Hawaii, you might want to check honoluluadvertiser.com or starbulletin.com for a list of craft fairs. I don't know about neighbor islands but they do a listing each holiday season (starting in October I think) of all the craft fairs on Oahu. I know they ALWAYS have soap vendors at the big ones.....may not be the exact one you are looking for, but it's worth a try! Another thing that is really big now are those potpourri beads that smell like Hawaii flowers and fruits. You can put a bag of it in your car, in your closet, in your drawers, etc.

I was the recipient of a wonderful Hawaiian gift several years ago. My boyfriend purchased a HAwaiian Koa wood box that was carved to look like a gift box complete with a wood bow. Inside the box was lots of confetti and a little black box containing a diamond engagement ring! It was a total surprise! We married in Kauai 7 months later!

MelissaHI again...
Melissa, I looked at the web site you recommended. I know I bought one of the mango soaps from this company, but the ones I bought the most of had a slightly different wrapper. The store was on Front St in Lahaina and they wrapped their soaps (2 sizes $5 and $8) in what looked like a hand made paper. It had a textured look to it. The wrapper went all the way around the soap, not just around the "middle" of the bar. The soap is all cream, not glycerine and it doesn't have any little particles of anything in the bar.
Any ideas?
Thanks soooo much, all of you, for your help with this little Freaky Friday project of mine.
Carol

Hey, Carol, as I embark on my holiday shopping (which includes the BEEG craft fairs, like the one this weekend at the Blaisdell Center) I will keep my eyes peeled for the soap.

simpsonc510 Nov 29th, 2003 11:07 AM

Thanks, Melissa! I appreciate all the help.
I did go ahead and order some soap from the Haiku site I was given. I know, for sure, it isn't the same thing but I'll try it anyway.
Thanks!
Carol

Carbogilligan,

WOW! What a wonderful way to start a marriage! How was the hawaiian wedding?

Aloha...

carbogilligan Nov 29th, 2003 01:24 PM

The wedding was great! We were married in the Waioli Church in Hanalei
(the little green church with the beautiful stained glass windows) and then dined at the Princeville Hotel on their Lanai overlooking Bali Hai. It was a beautiful day! Thanks for asking!

Carol, was the soap company called Essence of Iao? The company is based in Kihei and she sells regular rectangular soaps; double decker rectangle soaps (i.e. Mango on one side and coconut on the other), round loofah soaps, and candles. I saw this one at the big craft fair last night. SOME of the soaps had paper all around. Some only had paper on the front. All smelled delicious!!!!

makai1: Where did your DH order the flowers from? Great idea for a holiday reminder to my partner of our fabulous Kauai trip this past summer! Thanks.
