sharing a burger post theatre at Joe Allen's doesn't suck. Not sure it's a great burger, but it has always been fun with a couple of martini's and seeing which actors and their friends show up.

ekscrunchy.... you're right. Thru all my decades I've never seen a bag labeled Bloomys... it's been either Little Brown Bag... Medium Brown Bag or Big Brown Bag. Tho i must admit I' haven't been in the store in awhile I (order on line ) so don't know how today's bags are labeled.

You know what--I'm not sure either!

I really do not that store very much, although once in a very great while I visit the housewares department. There is little to no service in the clothing areas.

Interestingly, the last time (in housewares) was a couple of months ago and when I mentioned to the guy in that department that I had seen a coffee machine for less money at Williams Sonoma than Bloomingdale's was charging, he offered to match the WS price for me.

I love Island Burger on 9th, but it's so hard to eat a burger without fries and they don't make them there.

5 Napkin is great in my book, and I'm not sure I've had a better burger than PJ Clarke's although a tad skimpy for the price. Their shoestring fries make up for it.

I'm also surprised no one's mentioned BLT Burger -- which I thought was really great -- but have only been there once.

And in the expensive category, does db Bistro Moderne still do a foie gras and short ribs stuffed hamburger? It was amazing at something like 25 dollars a few years ago. I just looked at their menu and only see one filled with short ribs -- no mention of foie gras, and it is now $32 with a side of fries (which were the best this side of Paris when I had them).

The best burgers I've ever had in the city were at a place in my old neighborhood - the Back Stage deli, a little hole in the wall on Lex, just north of 62nd St.
An entire burger deluxe is under $10, and comes with free soda.

The place is owned by Greeks and their Souvlaki is great, too.

Wouldn't it be great to see a "burger off" in the city for bragging rites on the BEST burger in the city. That would be fun.

for me, the best is JG Melon's! on the expensive side, I liked the ones in club 21 (great sauce!)

Five Guys? Are you serious? I know people rave about those places and then they came to our town. LOVE their french fries, but as a guy who likes a nice big thick burger rare to medium rare, I can't stand their thin burgers they will only cook "medium" which I call "well done". And if you want a bigger burger, it still isn't thick, they just give you two dried out thin patties, instead of one. And what's up with not being able to get a nice slice of raw onion on a burger? Sorry, but chopped onions just aren't the same! I'm just surprised how many people apparently don't like thick juicy burgers, but prefer thin well done burgers. Well, to each his own I guess.
