What does a 12 pack of coke cost in Alaska? Where do you shop?

BudgetQueen Apr 16th, 2004 05:44 AM

$4.99 some times sales. Paid $7.00 a case which was a bargain. But no deposits. I buy it in Carr's or Walmart- usually. Sometimes Fred Meyer. In smaller areas- look at expiration dates. I had to go through a whole rack once and ended up buying a 2 liter which was the only product left within the expiration date.

Thanks. I am not sure what Carrs is. It a discount store? Can you find big stores in Palmer,Talkeetna, Seward area? Any other info on this would be helpful.

I don't mean to be rude or sarcastic, but my curiosity has gotten the best of me. Why is the price of coke so important in the overall planning of your trip to Alaska?

duh Apr 16th, 2004 12:51 PM

it took you long enogh, howard, gotch ya

duh Apr 16th, 2004 12:54 PM

also find it interesting to find out about other places...thats why i travel...see how others live. whats more american than coke, apple pie??? i hope someone is laughing!

HowardR Apr 16th, 2004 01:00 PM

Sorry, duh, but I still don't get. Am I missing something?
And, you certainly can't be serious with your last message!
But now, you got me curious again: What does the price of coke tell you about Alaska...other than perhaps a clue to the cost of living there?

Mama Apr 17th, 2004 03:14 AM

I don't drink coke or any soft drinks so I have no idea but like anywhere else, any product will have different prices in different stores. There are plenty of supermarkets in Alaska.
I agree 100% with Howard. What does the price of coke tell you about Alaska???

dwoodliff Apr 17th, 2004 04:18 AM

O.K., I'll bite. Is this a joke, or are you serious? I thought you were serious until the "gotch ya" remark to Howard.

I didn't find the question unusual, because I used to travel with a friend who would always have to stop as soon as we arrived at our destination and buy a 6-pack of Coke to take to the hotel. (I don't think carbonated drinks travel too well in a suitcase.)

Regarding the price, if coke is $4.99 a 12-pack in Alaska, that tells me that groceries are high. In Texas, if I can't find it on sale for $2.99 (or less), I buy Pepsi instead.

Carr's is Safeway. It would be best to load up in Anchorage. Certainly not Talkeetna/or Seward, small general type store there but more costly.
