Greetings from Charleston

Arrived yesterday and in love with the city already. Taking a city tour today to get a feel for things and then on to museums, history, all manner of sightseeing.

More later.

Giovanna

Hello Giovanna, I didn't realize you had already left! Isn't Charleston beautiful? I hope you two enjoy your visit there as much as I did. Btw, my favorite restaurant was SNOB. Be careful walking though, my friend and I rather stumbled around as the sidewalks are not even. We managed not to go splat thankfully! Sending you two hugs.

Hey, girl, welcome!

Giovanna Sep 10th, 2009 05:51 PM

Thank you both. We had a wonderful tour of the city today. The guide was exceptional. I can't get over the wonderful architecture, gardens, etc. We had a great dinner tonight at an Italian restaurant, gnocchi with a very good veal sauce, a glass of Sangiovese and a wonderful jazz trio and vocalist to entertain us while we ate. I think I'm in heaven instead of the southeastern US.

Giovanna, if you run into my son, say hello :) He called from a farm in N. Carolina.

Dayenu,Charleston is is South Carolina :)

Giovanna, you MUST give names of restaurants! :) Please, the Italian one? SNOB and Magnolia's are our favorite restaurants there. Enjoy your trip!

suewoo Sep 13th, 2009 08:20 AM

My favorite is Ile Cortile del Ray. But, if you come to Charleston, be sure to go to SNOB, Magnolia's, Hank's, High Cotton, Macrady's, Cypress, 82 Queen for real lowcountry food.

The Italian one is Mercato down by the Market.

We ate at Jestine's night before last and Hominy Grill last night. I'm now a member of the "I ate Shrimp and Grits Club." LOL We ate outside, had a wonderful server and it was as great as I expected. My husband had a wonderful chicken breast with mac & cheese and collard greens. We finished up with a piece of Buttermilk pie that we shared.

We went to the Aquarium and Ft. Sumter today, both were interesting. We're enjoying "cocktail hour" at our hotel now and trying to figure out where to eat tonight.

It's been a wonderful trip. We have enjoyed every minute. Have long wanted to visit here and it has been better than my best expectations. Should have planned a GTG huh Dayenu and Kal?

You've had great weather!

Go up to the rooftop at Market Pavilion Hotel for a beautiful view of the harbor. Have more fun, and welcome you our club!

Home again with great memories of a great city. Would recommend a visit to Charleston to any traveler. We were fortunate to have a superb hotel and staff (plan to review on TripAdvisor) and were pleased with all our restaurant choices. There were a number of things I would liked to have done, but as always time didn't allow. What we did do, however, was to our liking and we couldn't be more pleased with our time there.

Dayenu Sep 16th, 2009 02:24 PM

Yes, GTG in Charleston next year :) (Is Kal back from Pittsburgh yet?)

OK, so I got confused. Maybe thought of Charlotte? it happens. No biggie. My apologies to all offended :)

suewoo Sep 17th, 2009 06:26 AM

Dayenu,No offense taken! Just wanted you to know-your loved one is not here! If he was, we'd make sure he ate supper.

Gi, glad you had fun. It really is a beautiful place.

vjpblovesitaly Sep 17th, 2009 06:33 AM

Why would someone be offended by mistaking North and South Carolina?

suewoo Sep 17th, 2009 07:34 AM

No one is :)

Dayenu Sep 17th, 2009 08:50 AM

"If he was, we'd make sure he ate supper." - may I send my son back there? He said, he'll be coming for dinner :))

suewoo Sep 17th, 2009 09:22 AM

Sure! We have shrimp!
