Geez, what's with the geez?
OK, what am I missing. Why so many posts starting with Geez?
lol, ahhhhhhhh, thanks Patrick, it's good to smile.
I never thought about it until just now, but when I start a sentence with "geez," it usually means I'm either surprised or frustrated.
I prefer *sheez* myself ;-) Geez is so cheezy.
OK, I just scrolled down the left column and now I see what you mean. We do have an epidemic of geez's.
Geez, why are you asking?
There must be a lot of old geezers on this board.
Time to make foie gras ~:> :-p
On the train I hear people say Cheese & Rice! <<<instead of J.C.!>>>
I always thought it was spelled Jeez. Or Sheesh.
Geeez, what do I know :D |
Geez, now most of those threads have been pulled! :-)
And not a moment too soon!
From Calron County Colloquialisms: jeez \'jeez\ interj - Corrupted form of the pejorative "Jesus." The term is notable in that it is most often used singularly, either at the beginning of a sentence, the end of a sentence, or as a sentence all on its own; "Jeez. I thought my mittens were at your house." Although used as an exclamation of frustration or emphasis, it is somewhat more benign than "Jesus," "Jesus Christ," or "Christ" " I like "Jeez Louise". -Bill |
It should read Carlton, not Calron.
My favorite is used frequently in Maine - "Jeezum, Betty".
I always thought Geez was just a shortened form of Gee Whiz--would never have thought it had any relation to Jesus.
I've often been heard to exclaim: "<i>Jesus <b>H.</b> Christ!</i>"
what does the "H" stand for? geez, i've always wondered that
Holy?
Yes, "Holy". At least that was my old man's version when working on the family car - often interspersed with more colourful expletives which I'll spare gentler readers.
Oh go ahead Neil :D After reading a particularly icky joke on the A Joke thread, thanks to some person from LA...you can't make my ears burn!! LOL
Thanks Bill, I thought it was short for Jeeezus... |
Gee Whiz, geez louise, and Cheeses were all used by folks who wanted to swear, but didn't want to use the "lord's name in vain".
How nice was it in the days when Jesus and Damn were swear words??! |
Jeez, after watching Napoleon Dynamite so many times we don't use anything but a heartfelt "Gosh!" when expressing frustration.
Did someone say cheese? I LOVE cheese! :-D
