We love the Los Olas Cafe. It is down this little alley which opens up into a courtyard. The food is excellent Bistro fare and the service can't be beat.

Kelly if you want a taste of Florida, try the Samba Room on Los Olas blvd. It is Carribean/Cuban fusion and I think one of the best in South Florida.

Very romantic setting at night, but you need reservations as it is busy on weekends and especially Friday.

2 can have a lovely dinner with glasses of wine for about $120.00

If you don't mind the $, Marks Las Olas will be great. It's a beautiful albeit noisy place with beautiful people watching. But, it will cost you.

A terrific Italian restaurant on Federal Hwy in Sunrise is Casa De Angelo. They have wonderful, wonderful food. You'll need a reservation there.

Sorry, but I must strongly disagree with the fish places suggested above. For purely great seafood at reasonable prices in interesting atmospheres you should try either The Old Florida Fish House in Wilton Manor for the best fried shrimp you've ever had. Great deals on lobsters, too.

Another excellent fish place that's tons of fun is the Rustin Inn on Griffin Road. Fanstastic crabs - try their Golden Crabs. And, they too have terrific fried shrimp.

And, you really must get to Tom Jenkin's BBQ on Federal Hwy. This is the best South Florida BBQ restaurant. There is nothing better! Go there for a lunch - not fancy enough for dinner.

Also, if you want a fantastic burger (lunch only) unlike anything you've ever had - go to Jack's Famous Burgers on Fed Hwy. These babies are amazing. Pure heaven.

Ft. Lauderdale has some wonderful restaurants thanks to all the transplants for other big cities who have moved there and demanded the best eateries - they have plenty of them.

Have a great time.

I've had more that 2 excellent meals at Blue Moon and we're very choosey. Ask to sit waterside.....on a warm night!
Cafe Maxx I've had great meals at, but I've also had mixed service. If you're at one of their early seatings, don't let them bring the food too fast just so they can bring the next group in. That just frosts me!
The Sunfish Grill also on Atlantic is very small but great food.

I just returned from a trip to the area and had very, very good meals at the following places:

1. Sage Cafe. It is located on Rte 1 in Fort Lauderdale. The decor was typical of the Provence region with loads of sunflowers and impressionist artwork. The restaurant has a web site that shows their menu and gives you a link to a coupon for a 2 for 1 dinner offer on most weekdays. I'd go back again for their excellent pistachio crusted sea bass and chocolate mousse cake. The cake portion is enormous and enough for at least 2-3 to share, generously.

2. Primavera. Located on East Oakland Boulevard. Just fabulous food and Italian is not my most preferred cuisine when dining out. The appetizers were unique such as eggplant rollatini in a puff pastry shell and smoked salmon crepes. The main dish both of us had was pork rollatini stuffed with mozzarella, peppers and proscuitto with a delicious gravy. They offer a price fix menu for $25 which includes a bottle of house wine, on most nights. Check out their web site too. I can't say enough positive compliments about this place.

3. Chef's Palette. It is the restaurant of the Culinary Arts School of Florida. It was enjoyable, especially the Creme Brulee, but not as good as Cafe Protege in West Palm Beach.

4. Victoria Park restaurant on NE 20th street. Very small restaurant with lush decor.

5. Thai Spice on Commercial Blvd. Probably the best Thai food I've ever eaten.

6. Cassablanca Cafe. Loads of 2 for 1 coupons for lunch in the local "City Link" paper. It was quite crowded this past Tuesday and service was slow. Good food but don't go if you don't if you are not in the mood to linger.

Ellen
