Freaky Friday Rants 'n Raves 4/2/04
 

I decided I would rob jor of the sheer joy of starting the Freaky thread, since he got us all w/his joke yesterday. Good one, jor!

Rave: Rebooked the cancelled Zion trip for May

Rave: Leaving today for a week at rental house w/a big pool in Florida. Just sun, golf, pool, good food, and other fun. Massage therapist lined up to come to the house for massages by the pool. Decadent, I know, but serious times call for serious measures, and we are in serious need of relaxation.

Rave: Found an online site w/pictures of many good onsens in Japan. I have one as a screensaver now, w/a lake in the background. Come on, April 2005.

Rant: Ani did not have the baby on our mutual birthdays. I was wishing for her on that one.

I need to stop getting up so early.

rave: snarbed 2 nicely-priced tickets for ORD/LHR in late August
rave: the SUN is out :D
rave: it is Friday and I am NOT teaching a Saturday morning class this term!

rant: 9 weeks to go on the term
rant: ORD/SKP mid-July on the other hand is mucho buckies :(
rant: late August is too far away

Rant- Its still raining and showers are predicted through the weekend.

Rave- Its not snowing. And its April.

Rave- Made an offer on land in N Carolina (fingers crossed).

Rave- Taking my girls to a Josh Groban concert in NYC tonight. They are sooo excited.

All raves:
* I drew UConn in the office March Madness pool (go Huskies!)
* 10th anniversary trip is approaching
* temps are decent
* I rode 8.5 miles on my bike yesterday

rave: it's April, there is a Sakura Matsuri just across the river in D.C., and the end of March is gone.

rave: in only 8 weeks, at about this time but 13 time zones later, I should be checking in at the Hilton Otaru.

rant: have to work this weekend

Rave: jor is getting out of the tundra for a week! I hope you have a good thaw!

Rave: The Azaleas are in full bloom.

Rant: My stupid allergies are worse this year than last.

Rave: Daylight Savings starts this weekend!

Rant: I planted over 100 bulbs last fall, and NOT ONE green leaf has surfaced. I think I've been robbed by some bulb-eating tunneller!

Rave - I found out I definitely have a reason to go to AZ this fall - Grand Canyon here I come! :)

Rant - I have been sick with a cold for over a week and I just can't seem to get rid of it. :(

My rant: Husband got up yesterday and pulled something in his back!!

mrwunrfl: Thanks for the reminder about the sakura matsuri this weekend. I'll miss it but you reminded me to get on the website and order this year's T-shirt. It has a great 1852 woodblock print by Utagawa Toyokuni on it, it's really colorful. If you go, have a sapporo for me. And a belated happy birthday to you.

to emd: leaving for trip to Sedona and Phoenix on Sunday. Will report back to you on our stay at Hyatt Pinon Pointe. I noticed you were curious for an update. Also trying out Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort in Phoenix area.

Still raining in Baltimore. Can't wait to get to warmth of AZ although I hear the weather isn't great there today.

Rant: 8 inches of rain fell in my area yesterday. I think most of it is in my basement. The stream 120 yards away has overflowed its banks and is creeping toward the house.

Rant: Troy got fired! I liked that guy but he made a mistake in bringing Kwame in with him. He would have had a better chance against Bill.

Rave: My brother called to tell me that our request for a White House tour this summer is a pretty much a lock (as much as these things can be at this point in time!). If this tour happens it will be the highlight of our summer vacation. **==

My heart breaks for the families who lost their sons/fathers/loved ones in Fallujah Iraq.

Bennnie, You knew Troy would not win it all. Trump would never allow someone with no college education run a company. But, How about when 40,800 just happens to walk in the door with 2 mins. left so Nick and Amy could have their date.

doc - You sound surprised about Amy and Nick's win. It had to happen that way. Its a set up for when Amy stabs Nick in the back. I know the outcome is being manipulated. But I don't care. Its still stupidly fun to watch. And she's baaacckkk!!!! This is awesome even if its fake.

Kwame's degree may impress the Donald but you know how it is with Harvard - its got a great reputation outside a 50 mile radius of Boston. Inside of 495 Harvard grads are a dime a dozen - there's about a half dozen in my family alone.

RAVE: Only 2 weeks left till my due date.

RANT: 2 LONG weeks left...this is driving me CRAZY!!!!

RAVE: You all have some wonderful travel plans coming up!

RANT: No travel plans for me...

Rave- Leaving tommorow for NYC to look for a new apartment.

Rave- Still haven't found a new job in NYC and I move in 28 days.

Rave: The sun is out and it feels like spring!

Rave: My kids and grandkids will be in town next weekend and I am planning the menu for Easter brunch.

Rant: Came home Monday night from four days in Paris with the flu bug! Managed to drag myself to work Tuesday morning, but after checking email, etc., went back home and slept the rest of the day.

Rave: Didn't get the bug until the day we left, so all wasn't lost!

Rant: Haven't felt good enough to unpack and do laundry, so there goes my weekend.

bennie, It it truly amazing how addictive the silly show is. Funny thing is , Trump should be paying NBC for all his free advertizing. I'm sure he is being paid handsomely for this show. Tell me the MO of last night was'nt to promote his penthouse and show off his plane.

Rave - all the thoughtful, insightful people on these boards who made me decide to post my trip report - it feels so wonderful to get it out of my brain!
Rave - knowing that I may have helped somebody - that doesn't always happen in my job...
Rant - this rain, and I'm about to head to meetings #4 and 5 for today!! :(

RANT - We really need to think about what is an acceptable level of behavior in this country. Yesterday, two DJ's in Indiana made statements to the effect that former Yankee star and current Yankee coach Don Mattingly was seriously hurt while in Japan. Of course, his two teenage son's back home in Indiana didn't know that 3 hours later the DJ intended to throw out the punch line "Seriously hurt with a nick from shaving."

Freedom of speach should be protected. However, we really ought to consider what kind of people we are when someone could actually think that constitutes humor. Perhaps simple human decency will once again become a staple of our society.

Rave - L'Acajou restaurant at the Sandy Lane resort in Barbados. If you want a great meal and don't mind paying for it, probably few better places on the island.

Rave - Portable DVD players and a fully charged battery. Nothing better for keeping a 2 1/2 year old occupied on a 5 hour plane flight.

RAVE: Our DS just found out hes been accepted into an amazing, perfect and paid summer internship in his field of study, and that it may also lead to employment after college graduation!

RANT: We can't do a 3 week road trip this summer as a family becasue of his internship (we were going to do New England). This will be the first summer we haven't traveled together as a family since he was born. We did the beach (hilton head) with the extended family for 11 years, and the last 8 summers we did the 3 week Out West road trips. And our spring break trips to disney as a family are over too, now that hes in college...

Rant: Hate that Troy was given the axe. He hustled more on the show than anyone else.

Rave: Bill is going to win. He's the only one I haven't seen out doing PR for the show.

Rav: The Donald is so decisive about who will run his billion dollar companies.

Rant: Who runs his casino in AC, the one going belly up (per the NY Times)?

Rave, The girl in Madison WI was found.
Rant, She made the whole thing up.

Rant, Troy got booted. He really blew it when he kept on saying We, We, We, to prospects instead of focusing on the client's needs. I could not believe someone that smart would say those things.

emd, Hey, I was up until 2 am this morning with my computer on. Could have started the thread but wanted you to get the glory!!! \:D/

jor, I should have known you were thinking of me and how I was the first one to respond to your excellent april fools post and how you'd be nice to me because of it. I'll get you too someday, when you least expect it. (Did you ever see that movie "Gotcha"?)

Rave: just made REFUNDABLE hotel reservations in Portland, OR.

Rant: looks like I've missed the cheapest Southwest rates :-o

rave: our son was just awarded a Responsible and Good Citizen Award for the month at school (been here only 1 month too!)

rant--snotty girl at the bus stop said some unpleasant things to him because of it.

rave--he ignored her and took the high road.

Rave: We booked our tickets for France.
Rant: flooding all around here, killing off spring growth.

jor- no not at all, i was totally kidding and being playful!! my father was born on April Fools and we had all sorts of big april fools jokes in my house- we pretty much had a constant game of gotcha going on while i was growing up. someday i will fool you, in a fun fodors way.

Rave - Chamber of Commerce day here (Seattle)
Rant - Every idiot with a drivers license is out using up the O2.
Rant - and the tree pollen is 1 million ppm.

Rave - Down to ten days till el águila de plata británica hoists us to merrie olde.
Ergo rave - We will miss the last episode of The Sorcerer's Apprentice. Oh wait, that was Mickey Mouse. Oh wait...
Rant - The older I get the more obsessive/rententive I get at packing lists and things that used to be no sweat.

Rave - Now what was I saying?

Rave- they finished installing the new carpet in our basement yesterday.

Rant- 8 inches of rain, a pond in our front yard and a very soggy new carpet in our basement.

bennie and eva- where do you guys live that you are getting so much rain? It is raining in DC area but not flooding like you have. (Just tell me you don't live in Florida, please!)

emd - North of Boston, we got slammed. The power went out last night which prevented the sump pump from kicking in when it should have. Everyone at work had either leaks or basement flooding. The down town area of Peabody Mass. is under a few feet of water so I am sure there are people who have it worse.

So I guess that can be another rave-- it could be worse.

I'm in Boston and we are not as bad as the nearby towns where the rain has reached up to hoods of the cars where the, towns drainage is not up to par.
Some business will not be able to open for at least a week.

My inlaws live on the Cape- just called them after getting your emails and they said 10 inches of rain there! I was going to buy a generator as a backup to our sump pump after Hurricaine Isabel but I never did- but after hearing your stories, I'm getting one as soon as I get back from vacation.
10 inches of rain is a definite rant.

Rant for Gardyloo: Now I know I came in here for a reason?! :))

Rant: Our first 9:30pm softball game tonight was canceled due to a schedule conflict.

RAVE: Instead we are going to a new Bistro/Wine Bar recently opened on our side of town and it's within walking distance! \:D/ \:D/ \:D/
