Rant: I've been waaaaay too busy.

Rave: Being able to take some time to check out the Fodors board. Gosh, everybody, sounds like there's some good news and some bad news. For those with good, take your time to dwell on things. How often we get some good news and just throw it aside and move on. Savor it. For now.

For those with bad news, I'm soo sorry. Remember the cycle of life will be back around your way again soon and your tide will turn.

This applies SERIOUSLY to Red Sox fans who will likely never see another Yankees victory in their lifetime. hahaha!

Scarlett & Loveitaly, welcome to my world! I wear blue jeans with black ALL the time so consider me the warden of this fashion prison :-D You may choose to wear one of two standard issue t-shirts that read; "I'm with gorm -->" or, "I'm with naff -->" ;)

BuffaloGirl Oct 22nd, 2004 01:28 PM

Rave: I had a wonderful birthday dinner with my best friend at a nice restaurant - it's in an old mansion. We laughed a lot and had a blast!

Rave: I just found out that a vase I have (passed on to me from my grandmother) is worth a lot of money! I thought it was just an inexpenive thing. But I love it and wouldn't think of selling it!

Rant: the leaves are slowly but surely falling off the trees and soon it will be WINTER IN BUFFALO!!! AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

cd Oct 22nd, 2004 02:27 PM

Congratulations Olive to you, your daughter and whole family!
Patrick - Sorry :-( I would offer suggestions but my brother handled all my Mom's financial difficulties. I know you will find the open door.

annesherrod Oct 22nd, 2004 02:36 PM

Rave - St. Louis Cardianl Baseball team, everyone is on cloud nine!!!!
OO- that is great news.
Rant - Office gossip, and the immaturity of co-workers, blah blah blah

LoveItaly Oct 22nd, 2004 02:54 PM

Buffalo Girl. Happy Birthday!!!! And aren't friends one the worlds greatest joys? A true RAVE

And finding out that a sentimental vase is also valuable. Another RAVE

And autumn and than winter. Try to think of cozy evenings at home, red wine, a yummy stew, beautiful music or a fun movie on DVD or entertaining friends and turn that RANT into another RAVE.

First Rave:... OO: congratulations on your daughter's happy news and to bonniebroad's dog's recovery(my 15 yr old has dog hás alzheimer, along with blindnes and...)So I know how happy good news is.
Happy Birthday fairfax,
Jasper tell your mom, I'm there in spirit at dinner. I live in her toemn of Cambridge and she'd race about with a wooden spoon tied to the antennas of her little red car so she could spot it in the parking lot(in reality, she loved our attention)
Rants: rb, my pussy is in the sandbox in the sky R.I.P. Gigi!
Patrick, I hope everything turns out well for your mom.
You too Statia, you deserve some rest and future good things.
April, this is EVERYONE's forum, not only USA.

Gardyloo Oct 22nd, 2004 03:02 PM

I don't generally do this, but Patrick's thread has hit a nerve.

RANT: My wife's mother is in exactly the same situation - no "memory care" at her "independent living" apt. so it's time to find a residential setting for "congnitively impaired" (what a world of euphanistic hell this has become) and her HMO is to the left of useless. Just when families go through maximum stress is when the system craps out on you. And please hurry up and move her on - we don't want to upset the other elders in her current building. It's playing out like Some Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

RANT: American Airlines is squandering our loyalty and our dollars by degrading service, undoing their "More Room Throughout Coach" program (meaning knees up, chaps) and in general behaving like the visionless bunch of CPAs-cum-airline executive that they are. Why try to differentiate yourselves in a competitive marketplace by actually doing good things for the customers, when instead you make it into Me-Too AAirlines and talk yourselves into believing you can make money flying everybody to Dallas when they want to go to New York? Reminds me of a definition that my wife told me - and no offense intended, accountant types ;) -

Auditors are the ones who walk around the battlefield and stab the wounded.

Okay, RAVE: Just putting the finishing touches on the itinerary and flight listings for our round-the-world trip, starting next month (contingent on Mom's relocation) with a quick hop and back to Turkey and Israel, but really getting going in Feb-March (sun break to the Caribbean) then May-June to Australia and South Africa. Thank God for debt.

Shabat shalom, all.

OneWanderingJew Oct 22nd, 2004 03:05 PM

To OO--WONDERFUL news! I can't imagine how relieved you all are!

To Patrick--We went through something similiar with my grandfather. I don't know how my mom and uncle managed it, but he went to live in some Marriott run asst. living place that was wonderful (and pricey!) I know it did eat up a lot of his savings though...

Rave: It's Friday and my husband is home

That's it, it's a slow news day ;-)

LoveItaly Oct 22nd, 2004 03:21 PM

Gardyloo, oh yes, HMO's, airlines and accountants (bean counters). Isn't life wonderful.

I hope you somehow work something out for your mother, can only imagine the stress you are under.

And Isreal, a country I always wanted to visit and haven't. Will look forward to your trip report, assuming with all else going on you will have the time and energy to post one.

May life be good to you.

klr6773 Oct 22nd, 2004 03:41 PM

Rant: Pres/CEO visiting store Sunday and it's been high gear all week. Scrubbing bakery ceiling with a toothbrush(literally!!) and ruining all clothing with Clorox clean-up knowing darn well he's not going to look up!!

Rave:My staff has performed remarkably and incredibly I'm actually home earlier than usual this whole week. Time with my 20 month old daughter is wonderful and not stress filled chants of "Aren't you tired YET??

wemr Oct 22nd, 2004 07:31 PM

rant. British twits who invent rules.

rave. fantastic weather for this weekend! Love it, Love it, Love it.

rant. My daughter's new so called boy friend.

rave. Only seven weeks until Italy for 15 days. Ya!

Suki Oct 22nd, 2004 08:51 PM

Rave: Being the first to break the "Let's keep this to Friday" rule! (but worried that someone else posted while I was reading and I'm really not and this will rave will just look foolish-hehehe!)
Rant: My little sweet 13-year old daughter got decked while playing flag football in gym class and her nose is broken. Surgery is scheduled for next Wednesday. She is one of those kids that if it is going to happen, it will happen to her.

BuffaloGirl Oct 23rd, 2004 05:32 AM

LoveItaly: Thanks for the advice. I tried all your ideas, and they do work....for the first couple of months. But by March I've turned into Linda Blair in the Exorcist! To top it off, I don't forsee a trip to Florida. Oh well, I'll buy a LOT of red wine and make a big pot of stew!

Happy weekend everyone!

kimamom Oct 23rd, 2004 07:57 AM

Best wishes to your little one, Suki. We've been through two shoulder surgeries, broken collarbones, broken jaws, and two major car accidents with our kids. I know exactly how you feel! Take Care and sorry about the accident. ***kim*** (~~)

LoveItaly Oct 23rd, 2004 10:22 AM

BuffaloGirl, Oh I do understand. LOL!
I woke up this morning to a rainy and cold day. Really miserable. We went from real hot to all the smoke from wildfires to winter all within 2 weeks.
No autumn to speak of.

So I am already sick of winter!!! I have red wine, stew ingrediants, book, DVD's, CD's etc. and I am thinking "I want out of here"!!

But like you I am stuck here so guess I will go do housecleaning and pay bills.
Doesn't that sound exciting?

April Oct 23rd, 2004 12:40 PM

wemr,
LOL - the only "British twit" I know of is the one who aligned himself with the American twit.

bonniebroad Oct 24th, 2004 08:23 AM

RAVE: I'm posting on the Friday thread on Sunday, and it's the THIRD time I've posted! :-d

RAVE: Seriously, thanks to all of you who have shown concern for my doggie. Two days out from the surgery, he is doing fine, just HATES this big collar he has to wear for at least a week! :-( We will hear from his biopsy sometime next week, but the Vet is very hopeful that it's *simple* skin cancer.

RAVE: My sister is doing very well after her knee replacement Wednesday, and is into the new re-hab center she was hoping to get into. The pain from P.T. is grueling at times, but hopefully, she will get her life back!

RANT: N. C. State Wolf Pack lost to Miami last night! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!! :-(

RANT: N.C. State Fair ends tonight (didn't go back Friday night, after all.)

RAVE: Going back to the Fair tonight for one last round of Al's Fries, roasted corn, deep-fried dill pickles, and strawberry shortcake...... I really know how to stick to my healthy eating program, don't I? :-) (I DID do water aerobics four times this past week, in preparation!)

Happy birthday, Buffalo Girl! Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

dwoodliff Oct 24th, 2004 08:48 AM

Rave: The wonderful 3 days I spent in Vegas last week. I decided to mix my gambling money and shopping money, so I wouldn't know if I was losing. It worked. I had a great time, and came home with a bag full of Christmas presents.

Rant: Got home and found that the supervisor from another department (based on faulty info from the interim supv. in my dept?) had gotten one of my employees terminated!

Rave: Proved to the higher-ups that the info was false, and got my employee re-hired. (My first real "victory" as a supervisor.)

Rant: Son was "playing around" in his truck and knocked down part of our fence.

Rave: Daughter moving into "new" house this weekend, not far from where I live. Her small hometown company just signed a huge new client, so her career is looking good.

Rant: The new kitten my son found a couple of weeks ago is doing well. He appeared to be sick at first, but after a trip to the vet and a round of antibiotics, he is bright-eyed and feisty. Now, we gotta work on a name ...
