Freaky Friday Rants and Raves Oct. 21

Rant: The twin girl singers called Prussian Blue who sing about Nazi white power values.

Rave: All of our stated goals in Iraq have been accomplished. No more WMD, capture of Saddam, Bath party officials rounded up, free elections, new constitution voted on and approved, Saddam and his top officials on trial by Iraqi judges for crimes against humanity, An Iraqi army which can maintain order as proven by the order of law imposed during the voting. Our troops can now come home knowing they have accomplished their mission. God's speed and Welcome Home. **==

Rant: Jerry Falwell and others who blame people in NOLA for Katrina. :O

Rave: Fodorites who have been vocal to keep this thread out of the hands of trolls who are intent on getting rid of it. The troll will not succeed this week. :S-

ronkala Oct 20th, 2005 07:32 PM

Rave
Virginia Tech just knocked off Maryland

Statia Oct 20th, 2005 07:56 PM

Wow, I must be up way to late. :)

Rave: Leaving for Venice, Italy on Sunday morning.

Rant: Looks like we might have quite a bit of rain while there, but in keeping a positive outlook, the cool temps will be a nice change from the heat of the tropics.

Rant: Wilma and her possible wrath for many. My prayers are with those in her path.

Rave: Being on vacation time as of yesterday and having time to prepare for our trip without being rushed.

Rave: NOLA's French Quarter getting back on it's feet. I'm loving seeing Anderson Cooper broadcasting there tonight and seeing things up and running. Hopefully the rest of the city won't be far behind.

Rave: My own family in east Texas are finally getting back home after Rita. There is much destruction, but they have thier lives.

Have a great weekend everyone! :)

Statia Oct 20th, 2005 07:59 PM

Ooh, I forgot...

Rave: Way to go, 'Stros! World Series, here we come! :)

Scarlett Oct 20th, 2005 08:11 PM

Rave: FFRR
Rave: Living in Portland
Rave: children are well & happy

Rant:
Just found out that my favorite aunt ( the one I look like :) is dying. Due to stupid family feud, (other members of the family) she has been sick for a while and no one thought to tell me..

Do not let old angers and grudges hang on .. they taint your lives, they interfere with your happiness and there will come a day when you will wish so much that you had said something when you could.
At least I was able to find out from someone and I can talk to her now.

razzledazzle Oct 20th, 2005 08:14 PM

Rave: Amen to that jorr, and Godspeed the Homecoming !

Rave: Statia's Venice trip-have a grand time and safe journey.

Rant: My senior kitty Sebastian who is going the way of his brother, THE Boots,
'though still having perky spurts,
I forsee an unhappy day in the not to distant future. DAMN !
:-<

Rave: All the kits and four leg-ged that have good homes and loving laps.

LoveItaly Oct 20th, 2005 08:53 PM

Hello jorr,

Rave: Last weekend with my grandson (freshman in HS) who invited himself to spend the weekend with me.

Rave: The Travis AFB Air Show. It was awsome! Are troops at Travis AFB are so dedicated and I so admire them.

Rant: The 24 year old that went speeding down a residential street at about 60 mph in my city and lost control of his car and ended up killing a little sister and brother who had just gotten out of their school along with seriously injuring ten others, nine children and one adult.

Rant: The drunk (second time offender) who hit a car in the city in my county and killed a father in his 30's and injured both small children in the car.

Rave: Both idiots are now facing murder charges thanks to our DA.

Rave: A neighbor, a retired Marine who is also in a band and plays the sax who is going to spend some time with my grandson who also playing a saxophone.

moneygirl Oct 20th, 2005 09:03 PM

Rave: Jorr's determined postive spirit!

Rave: I think I just had dinner with Razzledazzzle! Did we just share a pumpkin cheesecake in Pismo Beach at a semi-business dinner?

Rave: Again, the helpful ones on the Canada board who are helping with my Christmas trip planning!

Meesthare Oct 20th, 2005 09:09 PM

Am I cheating because it's only 10 PM here on the west coast, so it's not officially Friday yet? Never mind. I see Scarlett got here ahead of me so I'm in good company.

Rave: Our new little kitten. He's 3 months old - just a ball of grey fluff. We named him Cloud. Our 9-year-old calico, Rainbow, who adapted to the cross-country trip and relocation so beautifully is having a little trouble with this, but she's curious about him. She just doesn't want to admit it.

Rave: The Fodorites that I see here week after week, encouraging each other and offering words of wisdom. Thank you, Scarlett. What you said makes so much sense - my family tended to carry grudges and old hurts, and I never want to do that. I can't imagine that it accomplishes anything good.

Have a great weekend, everybody! :)

LoveItaly Oct 20th, 2005 09:09 PM

Rant: without hitting the post button my post posted, grrrr!

Anyway, my grandson who also plays the saxophone.

More Rants: The woman in SF that disrobed her three young sons and then dropped them into the SF Bay at Pier 7 in SF yesterday afternoon.

And more Rants: The attorney's wife that was beaten to death in ContraCostaCounty. A 16 year old who has been involved with ID theft has been arrested. Another horrible crime.

Rave: All the good people in the world that try to make it a better place to live. Especially our police, fireman, teachers, nurses, doctors etc.

I don't know about our troops coming home from Iraq soon. I read on CNN this morning that Rice said our troops will be in Iraq for another ten years. But God's speed and get home as soon as possible is my prayer too!

jersey Oct 21st, 2005 02:38 AM

Rave/Rant- Just back from two weeks in Ireland. What a wonderful country. We started in Shannon and went south and west. Great to be home and, yuck, I'm back home.

Rant- It is going to rain in Central NJ again for the next five days or so. How is it we go for two months without a drop of rain and in two weeks get ten inches?

Rave- Happy twenty second birthday my darling oldest daughter. Your lovely face is only dwarfed by your lovely soul.

Rant- Miss Mary, my old fat calico, is slowing down due to cancer. She has had three surgeries and I refuse to put her through any more. She's a love of a cat.

Rave- DD # 2 scored the winning goal for her college soccer team in overtime. Her first college goal. Go Eagles.

Have a lovely weekend, stay dry, and be safe.

P_M Oct 21st, 2005 04:37 AM

Calling Bamakelly and Dan: According to another thread they have not been heard from since Hurricane Katrina. If you are out there please post and let us know you are OK. If anyone knows how to get in touch with Bamakelly or Dan, please let them know of our concern.

Statia, I'm glad your family can finally return home.

LoveItaly, I hope your DA is successful in prosecuting those people. So much injustice in the world, but so many more good people.

razledazzle, sorry for your sick kitty. I've been down that road and it isn't easy. Many Fodorites can relate.

Rave: Fodorites who care about each other.

Rave: Gorgeous fall weather!!

Rant: Lizards in the house!! Last weekend I left my back door open to let the fresh air in and a family of lizards invaded when we weren't looking. =-O I like lizards, but not in the house. The worst thing is that my dog thinks that lizards are dog biscuits with feet. She chases them around mercilessly, then eats them. She thinks this is great fun, and she probably thinks Mom and Dad are mean for not allowing it. ((&))

Rave: When she's not chasing lizards, my dog is such a joy.

Rant/Rave: I'm still getting interviews, still waiting for the right offer.

Have a happy and safe weekend, all.

GoTravel Oct 21st, 2005 04:51 AM

Rave: TWO WEEKS!! I RUN TWO WEEKS FROM SUNDAY!!!

Rant: I'm weary. My long run tomorrow is 15 miles.

Rant: Wilma and my goofy parents.

Rant: Mr.GoTravel isn't getting the puppy. He just signed a contract to consult on a big restaurant and will not have the time. I'm heartbroken. I'd do it but I work full time.

OneWanderingJew Oct 21st, 2005 04:54 AM

Rant: Statia's going to Italy and I'm not (Hehe...Have a wonderful trip, Statia)

Rant: Wilma, sick kitties

Rant: Can there really be a G-d when a woman in SF can throw her kids in the bay??

Rave: My family is healthy (but a bit nuts)

Rave: Today is my little brother's bday and Sunday is my oldest niece's. (I ended up getting her an American Girl doll...was going to do Bonnie's trunk with dressup clothes but she already has that!)

Rant/Rave: I'm going to miss Becca's bday party but will see her next weekend.

Good health, safe weather and fun times everyone!

GoTravel Oct 21st, 2005 04:55 AM

otto Oct 21st, 2005 05:30 AM

rave: otto, DC((@)) caught his first mouse! he was waiting with the gift on the front porch the other day. and my mom is thinking of getting another cat!

rave: i have a boyfriend who loves to cook!

rave: barcelona in 2 weeks!

Patrick Oct 21st, 2005 06:08 AM

For those who have lovingly followed the tales of my mother's lingering illnesses, she passed away this past Sunday. I was with her just before she died; she was very, very tired and said she just wanted to go to sleep and then it would be over. Ironically she had refused any pain medications for the previous day saying she had no pain at all; the nurse feels her body was so shut down she really wasn't able to isolate or even feel pain. When I told her to sleep and I'd see her Monday morning, she said, "No, Pat I really don't think so". She was right. The nurse called me about two hours later saying she had died in her sleep. She's in a much better place now.

Budman Oct 21st, 2005 06:11 AM

My sincerest condolences. ((b))

P_M Oct 21st, 2005 06:18 AM

Oh, Patrick, I am so very sorry for your loss!! She was very lucky to have such a kind and devoted son like you. But she is indeed at peace now and in a better place. Sending you and your family hugs and sincere condolences.

GoTravel Oct 21st, 2005 06:23 AM

Oh Patrick! My deepest and sincerest condolences.

Please know that you and your family are in my prayers.

cd Oct 21st, 2005 06:26 AM

Rant: Jorr, did not know Jerry Falwell said that. What a jerk!
Rant: Scarlet,sorry about your Aunt.
Rave: Scarlett's attitude.
Rave: Statia's going to Venice...I love Venice!
P.M. A dog biscuit with feet =:) What a hoot! Makes me LOL!
Rave: I'm getting hardwood floors in my living/dining/entrance/kitchen Yea! can't wait.
OWJ: I too struggle with questions like those you stated. 'Belief' is sometimes hard. I just keep asking for understanding.
Have a great weekend everyone.

jersey Oct 21st, 2005 06:28 AM

My condolences to you and your family, Patrick. My mother passed last year and there are really no words to say, except, I'm deeply sorry for your loss. You and your loved ones are in my prayers.

cd Oct 21st, 2005 06:29 AM

Patrick:
I posted before I read about your Mother. I'm so sorry. May you find confort and peace.

Jocelyn_P Oct 21st, 2005 06:36 AM

Patrick, I am so sorry. I know your mother had been struggling for a long time...may you all find peace. ((L))

LHG Oct 21st, 2005 06:36 AM

Patrick,
My deepest sympathy.

Betsy Oct 21st, 2005 06:40 AM

Oh Patrick. Thank you for posting about your mother. I always looked forward to your comments about her on the board. My deepest sympathy and consider yourself hugged from CA.

Statia Oct 21st, 2005 06:52 AM

Patrick, I've been following the issues you've had to go thru with helping your mother over the past year, and I've been able to sympathize since my mother is also dealing with an illness.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you, and you are right.....at least you know she is at peace now. Big hug to you, Patrick.

razzledazzle, I hope your kitty pulls thru. I was just watching my 13 year old puppy last night thinking that he is really starting to show his age, too.

Thanks for all the well wishes on our trip, everyone. :)

kureiff Oct 21st, 2005 06:56 AM

My sympathies Patrick.

ahhnold Oct 21st, 2005 07:03 AM

All my best, Patrick.

emd Oct 21st, 2005 07:03 AM

PAtrick, I don't post much on Freaky Friday anymore but I wanted to tell you that I sincerely hope you find some peace now. It is so hard to watch a parent deteriorate and deal with all the hassle that comes along with it; I know, I have a front row seat w/my Mom, who is now 91 but still hanging in there in her Alzheimer's facility.

SharonG Oct 21st, 2005 07:08 AM

Oh Patrick, what a lovely way for her to approach death. Part of my work is on a Hospice Unit and I've seen many people die in many different ways. How lucky for both of you that you were together and that she had no pain in those final moments. My thoughts are with you as I approach the one year anniverary of my mother's death.

JJ5 Oct 21st, 2005 07:21 AM

Rave: The example: that we could all be as at peace and acceptance, and act with such grace as Patrick's Mom did when it's our turn.

Rave: The spirit that keeps some brave souls pushing on living full lives beyond the time when the body has refused to cooperate- like my parents.

Rave: CHICAGO WHITE SOX

Rave: CHICAGO

Rave: Beautiful Autumn trees that look like explosions of color. Coming to work today was like driving down a cylinder of fire.

Rant: Religious people who think they "know" why God lets bad things happen.

Sorry for you loss, Patrick. Regardless of the preparation, it is still hard.

I've got my black and white with jersey on from head to toe today.

GO SOX!

obxgirl Oct 21st, 2005 07:34 AM

Patrick, My sympathy and condolences to you for the loss of your mother. You are a very fine son.

SAnParis Oct 21st, 2005 07:46 AM

Condolences to you & yours Patrick..

Meesthare Oct 21st, 2005 07:47 AM

Oh, Patrick, I'm so sorry. Thank you for letting us know. It sounds as if she chose her time; I've worked in a hospice and have seen so many people do that. It's a peaceful and humbling event and an honour to witness.

To those who are dealing with feline family members - it wasn't long ago that we lost our beloved Worf, and there was so much kindness and sympathy on this board for us. Hugs to all who need them.

kopp Oct 21st, 2005 08:04 AM

Deepest sympathies, Patrick.

ed Oct 21st, 2005 08:07 AM

Patrick--My sympathies. It's hard even though it was expected. but you know it was a release for you Mom.

Been there. :-B

Scarlett Oct 21st, 2005 08:13 AM

Patrick, as I told you before, I think your mother was blessed with having such a loving son, to be able to see his face then just go to sleep is something most mothers would yearn for when their time comes.
Sending all of our warmest thoughts,
Scarlett and family

Kehsutton Oct 21st, 2005 08:14 AM

For Patrick: While I've never met you and only have known you through Fodors (and have thoroughly enjoyed your posts, replies, responses and wit) I want to send to you my sincerest condolences. From what I can tell you must have been a wonderful son to your mother. May your days of pain and sorrow be short.
Warmly,
Karen
