RAVE: I work at a school. Only Monday to go!!

RANT: My kids get out on Monday too.

When we were young the kids in my neighborhood made ice cream man money by picking Japanese beetles off of our mother's roses. We got paid ten cents for a coffee can full of the things. We didn't have much problem making fifty cents every couple of days. Japanese beetles are directly for my addiction to those screwball ice creams with the gumball in the bottom.

emd:
There's a website you can RAVE about
http://www.fagerlund.addr.com/
This fellow, Richard Fagerlund, is an entomoligist at U of New Mex and writes a great weekly column (and often spiked with humor). So I say write to him about your beetles. We were having ant probs and he told me to send him some
preseved in alcohol (he said ANY kind of alcohol,ha-ha) and he identified
the species and exactly what bait to use.
What do you think?

Richard Fagerlund, aka The Bug Man, is terrific. I emailed him about a problem we were having and he answered very quickly. (Unfortunately, there is no solution to box elder beetles, but we're not having an infestation as we have the past 3 years.)

Rave: I had such an incredible steak salad at dinner last night.

Rave: I'd give eye/teeth to have that same steak salad again tonight.

hibiscushouse Jun 11th, 2004 01:29 PM

Oops, that second one was supposed to read "rant"
Sorry, it was my first rant and rave.:">

RAVE: Being looked for on the Freaky Friday post-thanks EMD!!!

RANT: Having sleeping troubles with baby...rough couple of days

RAVE: Pediatrician gave the go ahead to cry it out-should only be a couple of days now before things get better.

RANT: Baby crying it out...poor baby!!! Mommy needs Drinky.

Hi Marilyn, I hear ya. My mom has been feeding the cat for the past 2 years, she is really wild and she always runs at even the anticipation of my mom moving towards her. We may have to set a box trap now. Mom phoned today and said she moved the kittens after she touched them, but they can't go too far as she depends on our food supply. The parents live in a small town so she's looking for a no k**l (I can't even write it)shelter. Also a local pet store has the reputation for taking in strays. We'll find a good home for them. Turns out the kitty we thought was a male was a "she"...((f))

R5: bless you! you give bug advice as well as wine advice! I am going on his site now. And in the meantime, I will try to figure out how and where to get tobacco juice, that's a new one.
Should be an interesting weekend, brewing tobacco juice and flicking. Shaz: A coffee can full for 50 cents- man, your Mom was getting a good deal on that one. My daughter charges a buck to rub my feet at night (and she now is lobbying for a buck a foot).
Thanks everyone. I feel fortified against those little devils now.

bonniebroad Jun 11th, 2004 01:52 PM

EMD: go find a bunch of old farmers who love to chew (tobacco), and give them a big can!:-d

Rant: EFUDEX!!! AGH!!!! This treatment to rid my face of pre-cancerous and any basal cells present, treatment that supposedly did not touch healthy cells, has turned my entire face from eyebrows down into what might be described by some as raw meat--raw meat with scabs. It is a scary sight although friends who have experienced this PROMISE that this is not permanent...healthy happy soft new skin lurks beneath it. It is raw, red, cracking, and bleeds if something brushes it too hard. :( I was shopping today and got pitying looks. :(

Rave: First call sales and the time to go shopping as I can't be in the sun at all. OH yes...shop shop shop. Of course I can justify that new hat...gotta keep the sun off the face dontcha know. New shoes too...and that blouse will draw attention away from my face! lol

Rant: The Bullrun Car race stayed at our hotel last night, leaving this morning and doing donuts in our driveway on the way out...one missing one of our security guards by inches.

Rant: Our hired police stood by helplessly. (Our son had forewarned us...he'd seen video of this group in Scottsdale doing the same thing. Scottsdale police however wrote every one involved in the "Donut Capers" tickets for wreckless endangerment!)

Rave: They are gone and there will never be a repeat performance!

I KNEW IT!
That boy cracks me up...!
:-d

hibiscushouse Jun 11th, 2004 02:03 PM

I hear ya on the Efudex. Had to use it on my lower lip when I was in my mid 20's. Too many years in competitive swimming and lifeguarding. Tho' mine was "pre" ca. Took a month to stop bleeding. Learned my lesson though and never go out in the sun without lip sunscreen too. Waiting for the day that the rest of the face gets to have the pleasure.

bonniebroad Jun 11th, 2004 02:08 PM

OO, my sister has used that on occasion....... and it does get better! She's had the cancers on face, arms, neck........ I feel for you!

RAVE: It's cooled off to around 80 for the weekend here in Raleigh!

Kal Jun 11th, 2004 02:45 PM

>:D<>:D<>:D<

It's the start of the Summer of Love '04!

travellyn Jun 11th, 2004 03:14 PM

Rave: My daughter just got a 4.0 GPA her first year in high school. Yes!

Rave: My son's 12th birthday was yesterday.

Rave: I don't have to work this weekend and the weather's good. I love these long days.

Rant: None, since I don't have to work this weekend.

Scarlett Jun 11th, 2004 03:24 PM

Oh poor darlin Olive Oyl! I am so sorry to hear that you are crumbling away from that Efudex!
I can only say that this will pass and we will all be jealous of your smooth flawless skin ((F))

cigalechanta Jun 11th, 2004 03:45 PM

Rave: The sun is out, we have had an overdose of wind and rain.
Ran"t: The squirrels are birthing of the roof leaving lots of litters like branches for their nests.
Olive oyl, once the redness goes away, you will be your beautiful self.
Hi Scarlett, keep up the good cheer.

Rant, rant, rant, rant!! I can't find my freakin' golf shorts! I only have one pair because they have to be regulation length, they are expensive, and unattractive.

I am playing in a golf tournament Sunday and must find them or buy new ones! It's too hot to wear long pants!

Rant! rant, rant, rant, rant!!!

Blasted shorts!
