P_M: If you google "ultra sonic pest repellers" you will see lots of choices - one of ours is a Sunbeam SB600, the other I can't see a name on, but we bougth that one through a hunting supply store.
Different brands/models for different size rooms, etc - often you can find them at a good hardware store too. Why it worked for the squirrels and not the mice, I don't know so we had to use :"the poison" for the mice b/c the ultrasonic didn't seem to bother them...maybe I had bionic mice ! Good luck. It used to drive me crazy listening to them at night over my head....sometimes I swear they were bowling with acorns ! |
Thanks escargot, we might have to get one of those. I had a bad dream recently about those squirrels. I dreamt that we went to the attic to try to chase away the squirrels, but instead we found a family of vagabonds living in the attic, and that was the source of the noise. :-O Those squirrels really must go.
I hope it's only squirrels up there. Now I'm afraid of what we'll find. :-o |
P M, it's important to get them out of the attic. They can chew electrical wires and cause VERY expensive damage - as well as a fire hazard with coating stripped from wires and hot wires touching one another. One friend had to have the house rewired after ignoring the upstairs neighbors.
Now, bats in the belfry - well, that's another story! |
YIKES, we'll have to get on it this weekend. I wish we could figure out how the squirrels are getting into the attic and block the way. We've tried, but we just can't figure it out.
|
crefloors--Oh I agree. But can you imagine being on that flight? lol! My friend said that people were staring at her, and obviously not happy with the girls behavior. But all the people on the flight were Russian, so she couldn't even explain the circumstances. The way she described it was pretty much the flight from h*ll.

P M - check this out if you can't get rid of them yourselves -

Kopp, I'd be happy to share the recipe. Contact me at Elendil Pickle at gmaildotcom.

BTW~we had the pest guy from UC Berkeley come out and he recommended moth balls in the crawl space to keep the squirrels out. It worked!
|
Moth balls MUST work, because the wildlife wrangler STRONGLY recommends AGAINST using them or other methods. (Cutting into his business, I guess) I'd definitely give 'em a try - but I'd definitely deal with the rascals sooner than later.
Good luck! |
A friend of mine had squirells in her attic. She had to call a speciality company and they set traps in her attic. She had damamge, don't remember whether it was electrical or what. I do remember it was a big problem. P_M, as others have said this is something you really need to get taken care of right away! I think my friend was even told that the droppings and urine was a biohazard or something. Anyway dear one, don't let this situation go on although I know you don't need this problem right now!
|
P_M - those rascals really must be busy these days. Just this morning as I was waking up, I hear the pitter-patter of little feet scrambling in my attic. They were running all over the place, up to no good I'm sure :(
We've got these big oaks right near our bedroom windows, so they just jump onto the roof, then find a little space to crawl into. A couple years ago, we found they'd made a hole, which had to be repaired. Our exterminator set a couple traps up there - plus the moth balls. Fortunately, they left on their at that time. But today, yikes! They're back :(( Thanks, ElendilPickle - you've got mail! |
Hi kopp, that is exactly how the squirells in my friends attic gained access, from the branches of trees that were right next to the roof. It turned out the trees were dying so she had them removed. All this talk of hearing pitter patters in the attic is giving me the creeps, lol.

CAPH ~ I can feel for you with that crazy driver. We live on a street that is not a through street, but to save that extra 20 seconds people zip down it sometimes to avoid the light on the corner. Of course it is always someone driving crazy. There is a daycare on our block and I am always so afraid a child will get hit. You know it is that 20 seconds sometimes that can change so many lives.
STW ~ Happy ((L)) day! LoveItaly ~ I am so sorry, dear friend, about your daughter's friend. Cancer is such an awful disease. I said a prayer for them, and for all of you that will miss this dear person. kopp ~ We sold our last rental property this week too! (it was only our second, but it is sold, the first was sold in July). Congrats to you! It is quite a relief, isn't it??? mms ~ Congrats on your friend's two new little ones. This will be such a fun transition for them as they learn English and whatnot. it is amazing how much comes across thought without words, a smile can say it all. Best wishes. P_M ~ Just had to tell you that you are so funny. You make me laugh here ALL the time. vcl ~ Happy 75th to your DH. ((^)) starrsville ~ hope your week gets better <<<<<<hug>>>>>> ;> |
Hi Love,
Yes, it's like they're running in a marathon, back and forth, back and forth. Just the thought of what they're "leaving" up there for me gives me the heebie-jeebies! :-L |
Good morning, all.
Tiff, thanks for such a nice compliment, you always put a smile on my face. :-D After reading all of this helpful advice I now regret that we have ignored this problem for so long. It is scary to think the house could burn down because of squirrels. I hate to say this, but the idea of poison isn't sounding so bad now. If it's a matter of killing squirrels or having the house burn down, then the choice is easy. DH and I talked it over and we will start with moth balls. If that doesn't work, we will decide whether to use poison or call a professional. I'm leaning toward calling a professional regardless because he could probably locate the space where they are getting in, then we could block it. Thanks everyone, you are helpful as usual. ((Y)) |
kureiff ~ thank you! I just saw what you wrote (~~)

Hi P_M - Be careful with the mothballs and don't use too many. My dad had squirrels in his attick (tile roof) and they dumped mothballs everywhere. It did get rid of the squirrels but they used way too many and the whole house smelled so bad. Then they had to go crawling around up there gathering all the mothballs. YUK!

Thanks Suki! It's hard when your kids figure out you're not perfect...I was just hoping it would be at least another 10 years!

Thanks for all the support. Such nice people here in Fodorville! I am always amazed. I hope all of you get through your life concerns and I wish you all the best as well. Got to go to a rodeo now....if it stops raining.
