Freaky Friday Rants and Raves 9-01-06

Rave: Warren Jeffs is behind bars.

Rant: Lawn mower is in the shop for X amount of days. Lawn is growing very fast.

Rant: A goose hunter drove to my door well after dark to ask if he could hunt geese on my property. No way I'm going to let this idiot run around with a loaded gun.

Tiff Aug 31st, 2006 08:55 PM

Greetings late night FFR&R'ers ~

Rave ~ Thank you Andre for some of the best tennis I have ever seen, what a match tonight! Baghdatis, what a gracious young gent. Unbelievable. Gotta feel that love from New York.
((L)) Thankful we get one more day in the sun with you, Andre.

Rave ~ The beautiful anonymous soul that donated a 6 million dollar building to the Hope Academy in south Minneapolis so that the children would have a school that is larger. Prior to this donation, the school had approx 130 students enrolled, full capacity. With this new school, they will be able to have twice that amount. What an inspiration this anonymous person is to so many.

Jorr ~ Good call on the "No" to the goose hunter, heavenly days.

Hello and hugs to all of you.
>:D<

Rave: Lots of job offers.
Mini-Rant: But I'm not looking!

Mat, can you post a trip report or email me when you get back? I'm really really curious about getting to Africa from Hawaii. I'm planning to go one of these days (2007 or 2008) but my biggest obstacle is time.

Will do Melissa, this will be my 3rd trip in 13 months (bad and expensive addiction Africa is!) email me if you want info on the past trips. You have a gravy job, why you getting offers???!!! Aloha, hope to meet at the next GTG!

Happy Friday everyone!

Rave: Bridal shower and bachelorette party tomorrow for a girlfriend whose wedding I will be a bridesmaid in. She is a bridesmaid in mine, too.

Rant: The b'lorette party is starting at my house so I have to spend tonight cleaning it.

Rave: Her wedding is 10/28 and it's the last one I have to worry about for a while.

Rant: Weddings are frigain expensive.

Rave/Rant: Speaking of weddings, mine is in exactly 30 days. We're in the "final countdown".

Rave: My shower and b'lorette party is next Sat.

Rave: We got our first wedding present yesterday. It's an outdoor fireplace and it's beeeaautiful!

Rave/Rant: My 30th birthday is a week from today. I'm thankful that my wedding is helping me not freak out about turning 30.

Rave: Next weekend is going to be another "party like a rockstar" weekend.

Rave: Played hooky yesterday.

Rave: We got some new windows installed this week.

Rave: The ink has dried on the sale of DH's company. Twenty years of holding our breath -- we can now exhale! :)

Rave: Using some of that money to buy an investment/vacation property in Portugal. I couldn't think of anyone else I would rather "see the world" with. ((l))

Rave: My boys. ((l))

Rave: My true Fodor friends. Hugs to you too. ((f)) :)

Rave: Sharing wonderful moments with my S&BIL this summer. :)

My thoughts and best wishes to those who have such challeneges to live with. ((f))

I have rants, and some concerns (my dear cousin, thinking of you especially). Live each moment the best you know how and there will be no regrets.

Have an enjoyable holiday weekend...

Budman Sep 1st, 2006 05:18 AM

Rave: Rumsfeld is right on!!! He's a Great American transforming our military into the 21st Century. Too bad if the shoe fits. ((b))

angethereader Sep 1st, 2006 05:28 AM

Rave: Being part of the Rants and Raves. It allows me to get to know some of my new friends on this forum.

Rave: Picked up son from O'Hare yesterday. He was gone 3 weeks short of a year. He is my youngest and I missed him dearly.

Rave: Now I have someone to watch the shows I like and critique them with me. DH just does not get it. My son has the same sense of humor that I do.

Rant: Son has severe jet lag. He slept all day after we got home, so I really didn't see him. I woke up at 11PM to go to the bathroom and he was up watching TV. He was STILL up when I got up for work. He starts work Tuesday so I want him to get more in tune with our time zone by then.

Rave: That utter creep who has ruined so many peoples lives is finally in jail. Warren Jeffs is the Taliban of the US. I just hope they can nail him to the wall.

Rant: DH is having problems and won't talk to me, although he will tell me it's about me. So, what am I supposed to do now? Very sad this is happening when I'm so happy to have my son home, and I don't want him in the middle of all the tension Couldn't he have brought this up LAST WEEK.

Rave: We have been together 29 years, married for 25 - we'll get through this.

Tiff Sep 1st, 2006 05:31 AM

seetheworld Sep 1st, 2006 05:41 AM

Thanks Tiff! You could imagine my surprise when my DH started talking about his idea and then dragging me to realtors while in Portugal (drag away baby, drag away). It is a dream come true. Now, I would like to see him "slow down" just a bit so he could enjoy it.

GoTravel Sep 1st, 2006 05:53 AM

Rant: Bring back the Stupid Knee thread!!

Rant: Stupid Fodors.

Rant: Stupid Ernesto made me postpone my party.

Rave: 16 mile run in the AM.

Rave: Carb loading today:-D

Rant: Can't eat bad carbs or it screws up my run.

Congratulations seetheworld - sounds wonderful!

OWJ - Hang in there, it will happen and it will be great when it does.

Ethel - 30 days! Wow!

Rave: DD1 has a Fodorite as a teacher this year! Hi Eeva! DD wants to know how I know her teacher. Can't let her in on my secret just yet.

Rave: DD2 has a nice teacher also and seems very happy with the start of school.

Rave: The kids schedules for gymnastics, violin, orchestra and clarinet seemed to have worked out nicely.

Rave: All inspections to date for the addition/renovation have gone smoothly and without issue. We are heading for the home stretch.

Fodorite018 Sep 1st, 2006 06:09 AM

Rave--Went down to Corvallis last night for the first game of the season. Wow, that new stadium is NICE!!! Great game, Woodstocks pizza...heaven:)

Rave--Got the official paperwork for our invitation to see the space shuttle launch in December!

seetheworld Sep 1st, 2006 06:19 AM

Wow, bennnie, that's something else!! Small world, really. Your daughter will be so shocked, lol. :D Best wishes for the completion of your home project. It's such a relief to finish and live to tell the stories, lol. ;)

OWJ: You've got mail.

Ethel: We're getting excited for you!

angethereader: Sending you good thoughts.

Eeva Sep 1st, 2006 06:21 AM

Haven't weighed in for quite some time but with school back in sessions there will be ample opportunities for ranting and raving!

Rave: I just "fixed" my printer that has been "broken" since the spring (clicked some button and all was well again.

Rave: The weather is fantastic for running--no more humidity!!

Rave: I am training for a half marathon in October. (Running by Bennie's house a few days a week).

Rave: Towns finally approved the budget and hopefully we can get our school system straightened out.

Rave: Agassi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bennie--I was thrilled to see that your daughter is on my team (I'll keep the secret as well). There are some scary "scouting reports" about this class but I know she is one of the good ones. Overall it looks pretty good from where I stand.

I must be insane because I LOVE 8th graders. I find them fascinating.

GoTravel Sep 1st, 2006 06:22 AM

Aack!

I'm a moron.

Lots of BIG HUGS to you OWJ not lots of bug higs to you.

Geezus.

Tess Sep 1st, 2006 06:25 AM

Such a nice start to the weekend to catch up with Fodorite doings on FFRR. OWJ, you're in my prayers--waiting must be so hard--hoping you get 'the call' soon.

Ethel--30 days, wow! What an exciting time.

angethereader, hang in there.

Rave: College football starts in full force this weekend. Let the games begin (and go Huskers)!!

Rant: My husband and daughter are leaving for the Husker game in Lincoln tonight AFTER her high school dance gets over with at 11 p.m. It's a 6 hour drive to Lincoln so I'll be worrying all night until I know they've arrived safely.

Rant: DS has a tennis tournament this weekend so he and I have to stay home.

Rave: Cooler weather--high of 60 today here in western Nebraska. Bliss!

cmcfong Sep 1st, 2006 06:46 AM

Rave: Tiff, just because you never fail to lift my spirits.
Rave: OWJ, great attitude, positive and open.
Rave: GoT, I like bug higs.
Rave: Enough rain...already!
Rave: Happy Ethel

Happy weekend.

kureiff Sep 1st, 2006 06:54 AM

Mat: I love mojitos, too! I planted a couple extra mints plants just for mojitos; they are a definate rave! ((D))

STW: Congratulations on the prospective new home in Portugal. How exciting!

OWJ: Many good thoughts for you. My sister is a birth mom, and the adoptive parents are wonderful (actually very similar in personality to my sister and her boyfriend -- only mature and settled and ready to love and care for a baby).

People like you and your husband will be a gift and a blessing to some wonderful but overwhelmed young girl who wants what's best for the baby she's carrying. I know it must be so hard to wait and wait and to be so unsettled. Many hugs for you.

Rave: I'm glad it's Friday and I'm glad it's a long weekend.

Rave: September is my favorite month. It always feels like the start of a new year to me. But I wish I still got new "school clothes."

Bug Higs for all of you in Fodorville!

amaclise Sep 1st, 2006 06:54 AM

Rave: the fascinating personalities on Fodor's which I am learning about more and more.

Rave: I was offered the job of my dreams!

Rant: They only give 1 week vacation until 3 years! (Should I take it?)

JJ5 Sep 1st, 2006 07:12 AM

Rave: To all of us who work outside the home long, long hours- and especially for those who do this for others and reasons that don't singularly reflect the monetary/to live category. Twenty cheers and a great Labor Day Weekend OFF! That goes for all workers outside the USA as well.

Rave: The Workers who do not get this weekend off but are vigilant and on their jobs regardless. The 5% that really makes the 95%'s choices, health and security possible- despite often getting mouth in the negative- much praise and admiration to all, health, sanitation, and police services people especially.

Rave: The Autumn Light is starting on the water.

Rave: September I will meet some Fodorites.

Rave: I cleaned out 2 closets and got 4 more boxes to the Juvenile Diabetes Fd. I bet I have 8 more boxes to go. By 60 I just want to own less "stuff".

Rave (as always): Chicago White Sox themselves, and their Charities and basefull fun in general. The Boys of October are coming.

Rant: City of Chicago corruption and clout raising its head constantly without media or proper consequence since last Spring. With Stroger's stroke, over 1,200 croonies have been hired during a "hiring freeze". One in particular had 10 felony convictions, was made head of a Finance Committee, and has already run off with about $380,000 at the minimum. These "jobs" are from $40,000 to $100,000 per year and most "employees" come in once a week to sign a roster and that is all they do. Many have full time jobs elsewhere. It's blatant again.

Rant: Jimbo's (31& Princeton) in Chicago is losing its lease after 23 years. Now that the gravy is starting on the Southside, the lady croony has made her clout connection and cut out the people who built this up over 23 years for her. They were given 1 month and 2 days notice and SHE will get the liquor lic. despite the law forbiding it because she knows the right people.

Rant: That the people in Chicago continue to vote for this crowd because they perceive them as "helping" their causes and because they "might" get a share of the loot.

Rant: Racism, alive and well with Meeks and others being prime examples.

Rant: That I can't get my 87 year old father to move out of Chicago and/or at least smile once a week.

ronkala Sep 1st, 2006 07:23 AM

rant
people who are brainwashed. ((b))

Budman Sep 1st, 2006 07:27 AM

Rant: People with heads in the sand. ((b))

jorr Sep 1st, 2006 07:46 AM

rant: Last year I posted a comment on a thread about how bad the Travel Channel has become. I said that they will probably come up with a show called the top ten McDonalds. Sure enough, yesterday I saw a show on the Travel Channel about the top ten McDonalds. The most goofy thing I could think of about that channel came true.

bennnie Sep 1st, 2006 07:50 AM

Eeva - funny how this class has that rep already because as 6th graders in "our" elementary school, they were considered a model class. But its not the first time I've heard it. One current 10th grader told me that her class is "scared" of the 8th graders. Must be those "other" towns...(just kidding, we know some lovely kids from G & M). Glad you think DD is one of the "good" ones, all her friends are too ;-)!!!

PamSF Sep 1st, 2006 07:55 AM

Rave: the first light of Autumn and a slight nip in the air.

Rave: I will have some time this weekend to plant bearded iris and pansies.

Rant: I am working the weekend and Labor Day.

Rave:Ronkala and I wear the same shoes

Have a good weekend everyone!

Eeva Sep 1st, 2006 08:00 AM

Bennie--It's primarily the kids from G-Town that give the grade the rep. they have. Plenty of nice ones from there, but a few that make us scratch our heads. Who knows, maybe they have straightened up over the summer.
