Rant: I've been stuck in the office working on a project since 9 this morning without a break.

Rave: The wine shop is a block away and the Friday night tasting has started. I feel a break coming on!

ElendilPickle Jul 29th, 2005 02:18 PM

This Will Be A Rave Once I Get Over The Shock: I'm pregnant.

I just turned 45; my other kids are 21, 17, and almost 10. I got rid of my baby stuff years ago!

Now I'm contemplating taking a 25th anniversary trip to San Francisco in 2007 with a 1yo. :-)

Rave: Cooler temps in New Mexico.

Rant: They're going back up.

Rave: My fil is remarrying in Santa Fe tomorrow. We have a mini-family reunion going this weekend, and it's been fun to see Mr. Pickle's brother and sister again.

Praying for those of you who have suffered losses this week, and that Scarlett's move goes well!

Lee Ann and the mini-Pickle (the Gherkin? the Cornichon?)

bonniebroad Jul 29th, 2005 02:25 PM

ElendilPickle, let me CONGRATULATE you, girl! ((f)) ((f)) ((f)) This little gherkin will definitely keep you young! :-d

(Now, guys, any comments on the little stunt my friend pulled with me? Extending our vacation for a day without consulting me? Would you be mad or am I being over-sensitive? :-( )

ElendilPickle Jul 29th, 2005 02:27 PM

I don't think you're being oversensitive. The trick is to let her know what you think about it in a nice way - assuming you want to keep her friendship. :-)

Lee Ann

OH MY GOSH!!!!

My jaw dropped when I read your news Lee Ann! Congratulations!!! A baby gherkin on the way - WOW :D

Kal Jul 29th, 2005 02:36 PM

LeeAnn,
You DO know what causes that, doncha?

Congrats and best of luck! ;)

bonnieB,
Just do what I do when this happens with me and Mrs Kal when she gets us into family obligations w/o
"consulting" me.
Shake your head and say "Women"! O:)

seetheworld Jul 29th, 2005 02:39 PM

Hi Bonnie :)

Now, let me see...I think she should have asked you if it was okay and being the friend that you are, you probably would have agreed.

But then again, my baby bird is about to leave the nest, so if I could spend another day visiting with him, I might let my heart instead of my brain guide my decision -- but I probably still would have asked you :)

seetheworld Jul 29th, 2005 02:43 PM

Kal, lol!

At least someone has been having some fun, lol. Gosh, Lee Ann, what must your kids think :D ;)

uhoh_busted Jul 29th, 2005 02:51 PM

This retired life is BUSY -- I didn't get to this post til nearly dinner time.

I'm sure glad the extreme heat in the Carolinas has broken. We don't have a diningroom table yet and like to eat on our screened in porch (which was impossible when it was 100F, even with two fans). TV trays just don't cut it in the romance department.

Rant -- when you get a new phone number it takes 30 days to get into the Do Not Call FTC list and you are bombarded with unsolicited calls!!!!!!!! Yuck!

bonniebroad Jul 29th, 2005 02:52 PM

Seetheworld, I definitely would have said "okay." It's just the principle of the thing (BTW, she sees this son & babysits the grandchild EVERYDAY) and didn't bother to consult me about a major change of plans. Kal, I love you .... you always make me smile! :-d

seetheworld Jul 29th, 2005 02:54 PM

Well Bonnie, that just blows my theory out the window. Did you have a good time otherwise?

dcespedes Jul 29th, 2005 02:57 PM

LeeAnn, oh my goodness--that's great news! Congratulations!! A little dill, relish the joy! ((f))

Kal Jul 29th, 2005 03:00 PM

Just don't laff at my little gherkin'!:">

buckeyemom Jul 29th, 2005 03:13 PM

Lee Ann-Congrats. I read somewhere that women who have babies in their 40's live alot longer. :-)

Rave-Hot, humid weather has disappeared for awhile.

Rant-Moving. Is there anything worse? I moved 1 1/2 months ago and had to move my Mother this week. You would not believe the knick knacks that woman has.

Rave-County fairs, outdoor concerts and picnics.

Rant-My 78 year old Uncle has been helping my Mom moved and decided to use my phone charger as a rope. Don't ever try to defrost bread in the microwave while still in the package.

Rave-The seniors love to watch the Judge shows.

Rant-I inherited 2 fuzzy plywood sheep from my Mother.

Rave-I put the sheep in my neighbor's Augusta manicured lawn.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Rant: Overposting on Fodors. People who make separate posts for 12 different questions, all about the same destination.

Related Rant: People who can't take a vacation unless every last minute detail is pre-arranged.

Please no flames, just my opinion.

jersey Jul 29th, 2005 03:33 PM

Hello all from recently cooled off NJ. After temps up around 100 for a bit we are finally back to the mid-eighties.

Rave- Just back from a fun dinner with a friend we haven't seen in a few years.

Rant- DS didn't like the college we spent today visiting. Oh well.

Rave- Family coming for DS#1 23rd birthday tomorrow. Yikes..time flies.

Ellen...I am 47 and cannot imagine being pregnant. God bless and all my good thoughts and vibes are with you. My 25th wedding anniversary is this year and I am thinking about finally having quiet time with my DH. Of course, I do have 5 children, so my wishes for quiet time are understandable. LOL

OWJ- My beloved kitty, Fat Mary, has breast cancer. She has lived through 3 surgeries and outlived prognosis for her demise by months. We know we are on borrowed time. In fact she has slowed down and doesn't move much. But doesn't seem in pain so we love her and bide time. So I feel your upset personally.

Rant- My Moms dog had to be put down last Friday. Chambers lived with my sister since my Mom passed last year. He was OLD and it was time. But, it was another link to Mom severed. Sigh. The good news is, she was waiting on the other side for him. She loved that big dummy so much. I bet they are out for a walk on one of the beaches of Lake Michigan right now.

Have a great weekend. Be well and stay safe.

seetheworld Jul 29th, 2005 03:39 PM

Oh Jersey, so sorry about Chambers. I know exactly what you mean. It was heartbreaking when my mother had to put down my late sister's cat -- it was like loosing her all over again. How my sister loved that cat. Hugs to you.

Fodorite018 Jul 29th, 2005 04:07 PM

LeeAnn--Congrats!

Bonniebabe--I would be ticked too. I agree that finding some nice way to mention it would be good. Of course I have no idea how to do that, lol!

Buckeyemom--Plywood sheep??? LOL! Glad you found good use for them :D

Jersey--So sorry about Chambers. I can see why that would be tough.

Rave--DH is finishing up all the details regarding his mom. Things are so far going very smooth. He should be able to do the memorial tomorrow and then fly home.

Scarlett Jul 29th, 2005 04:09 PM

Congratulations Ellen!!

While it is a shock abd your life is gonna change in a BIG way, it is also such a fabulous gift!!
Awww, I am sitting here grinning like an idiot, I want a baby too LOL
Big Big Happy Hugs to you and Daddy who is still in shock, I bet :D
