LoveItaly Jul 22nd, 2006 10:45 AM

Hi jorr, can you explain something because my daughter and I were trying to figure it out the other day.

Say it is recorded at 105 in the shade. But if one is outside and not in the shade (with sunscreen on of course!) what would be the temperture in the sun? Do you add about 5 degrees or what? Thanks and have a good weekend.

mikemo Jul 22nd, 2006 11:22 AM

LoveItaly,
Ambient temperature varies: record your own in any location you choose.
All official temps are in open, shaded areas.
M (SMdA, Gto.)
It's a chilly 68/20 here now.

LoveItaly Jul 22nd, 2006 11:27 AM

Thanks Mikemo, guess I will buy an outdoor thermometer. And how I envy your weather!

OldSouthernBelle Jul 22nd, 2006 01:30 PM

Rave: Hurray!!! We finally got 9/10" of rain this afternoon! Still need many more inches, but at least I won't bother trapsing around with a water hose tomorrow!

Rave: All posters who follow up their original inquiry and letting us know about their decisions after getting many helpful information here on this forum

Rant: Posters who think using many colors and smileys in their posts is very cute but they do not think those messages get not only annoying but hard to read. I know, I know, I should dismiss them. I do, and many others do too.

emd Jul 23rd, 2006 06:37 AM

Rant: Current posters who are starting to use this forum as a personal chat room. I am not talking about FFRR, as the purpose here is to share w/many friends and it is a standard post once a week. I am talking about the posts that are started for sole purpose of chatting between two or a few posters ("Where is So and So?"; "Here is So and So!"; "So and So We Miss You!; etc, etc, etc.). It is getting really rampant now btwn. a few of the same people, over and over.

I think people should just arrange with the editors to exchange emails and do this outside the forum. All you need to do is email the editors at [email protected] and tell them you want to exchange email addresses and they will put you in touch w/each other. It's very simple.

LoveItaly, the tempurature you are referring to is the Heat Index tempurature which is what the real temp Feels like when you factor in humidity, wind and sun. I'm sure there are charts somewhere on the internet. 105 would probably be 110 to 115.

jetset1 Jul 23rd, 2006 07:43 AM

LoveItaly~ the real temp factor is amusing in the winter to me. Maybe we're having a cold snap and the high will be 9, but it will "feel like" 6..
Our summer is cooler than usual, more showers, but it has made my flowers extra tall and the lilies are just now opening.

ronkala Jul 23rd, 2006 08:04 AM

Well said, Emd

Rave: My younger son goes to camp today. How wonderful to still be eleven and interested in so much.

Rave: Having positive friends who inspire me to do more every year, especially those who have lived much longer.

Rave: Remembering on Sunday and every day that kindness and tolerance never lose their meaning.

yes, thank you emd

Still wondering why the woman on the cruise ship in the white hat is talking to the Cone Head and what they are talking about. I never met a Cone Head on a cruise ship and am just curious.

LoveItaly Jul 23rd, 2006 10:15 AM

Thank you jorr! And Jetset, cooler weather, sounds like paradise to me.

jetset1 Jul 23rd, 2006 10:19 AM

LoveItaly~ I would be thrilled to have you visit, and enjoy our tempaerte summer. Pat2003 is coming soon and BayouGal will head this way next year.
I have a freezer full of halibut and fresh salmon right now. I actually can walk at a regular pace on the beach, lol. Please know that you would be welcome any time. Sincerely, J.

GoTravel Jul 23rd, 2006 11:39 AM

jorr, the air temp doesn't have to hit the 100s to have heat indices that high.

Last week it was 91 degrees here but the heat index was 115 degrees. We often get a heat index in the 120s in July and early August.

LoveItaly Jul 23rd, 2006 12:37 PM

Hi jetset, my goodness I am overwhelmed as Mikemo invited me to Mexico and here is your invitation. With salmon and halibut thrown in as an enticer! Two of my favorite fish dishes. Jetset, I can't go anywhere right now but first of all I want to thank you for your very lovely invitation. Perhaps in the future it would work out. That would be beautiful!! Do you enjoy your lovely weather. And thank you again for your thoughts and kindness.

starrsville Jul 23rd, 2006 12:56 PM

Now, wait just a minute Miss LoveItaly. You can't accept any other invitations until you head out to visit me. You, me and the OWJ's need to spend a few quality hours motoring around a mountain lake and then a several more hours rocking on the porch in the midst of rhododendrons and mountain laurel.

Geez.

jetset1 Jul 23rd, 2006 01:07 PM

Lucky you, LoveItaly~ everyone is vying for your presence! By all means, go see everyone closest to you first.
Besides, I will soon have photos of my beloved dolphins.. my kids are glad they won't be going on this next trip, because I always get teary eyed when I spot them.. keep your fingers crossed that matnikstym doesn't sacrifice me to Pele and Bayou intends to really come along as promised. Kind of sad sipping mai tais without friends to laugh with. J.

Rant: Car alarms. No thief, even a blind one, is going to steal a 1999 Nissan Sentra, with or without plastic hubcaps.

Rave: Smashing the windshields of Nissan Sentras. ;)

LoveItaly Jul 23rd, 2006 03:19 PM

Ah Starrsville, my head is spinning, lol. You hear people talk about buying 'round the world tickets, I am going to need to buy 'round the US tickets, with a swoop down into Mexico.

Let me tell you, normally I am happy whereever I am but right now I HATE and I do mean HATE where I live. Most miserable weather I have ever been in. Than I read that most other places are having the same problem and people are going days without power, I don't know how they survive. I am feeling like a wimp, lol.

Mountains, lakes, ah Starrsville.

And jetset, I imagine you are going to have a wonderful time in Hawaii. As will matnickstym, you are such a fun person! I sure hope bayou will join you. I thought it was all set up.

Thanks dear friends, I am truly honored regarding your invitations. I wish I could go running to the airport right now. Well maybe not running, not in this heat lol. Cyberhugs to both of you!!

Oh, starrsville, SFO was 98 degrees yesterday, can you imagine?
