Rant: This week, I learned a sad but valueable lesson about tempting Fodor Gods and Godesses.

Rave: Kudos to PamSF for putting your $$ where your mouth is. Our colds are better, DH has a three day weekend and our little pup Zebby is turning into a little gentleman (finally).

We get to see the SF fireworks from our back windows - YEAH

Have a safe and enjoyable 4th.

Nina

starrsville, I had a big fat rat snake in one of my hanging pots one time in Texas. They look like rattle snakes and can climb up trees and patio posts. A co-worker had one in his outdoor grill when he lifted the cover. I have a snake phobia and found that the gekko that jumped out of my pants one morning when I slipped it on was way less a problem!

Oh, here's some trivia that few people believe. There are rattle snakes in Minnesota. Its true.

OldSouthernBelle Jul 1st, 2006 07:18 AM

jorr: Those snakes must be the lazy cousins ....(hibernate most of the year?)lol1

JAGIRL Jul 1st, 2006 07:19 AM

OSB,
I guess you're darned if you do and darned if you don't!

jorr Jul 1st, 2006 08:49 AM

OldSouthernBelle, They must be. It gets really cold in winter but you can find them in S.E. Minnesota in the summer. A friend found one under his wooden porch.

BuffaloGirl Jul 1st, 2006 09:17 AM

Jorr: There are rattlesnakes in New York State also! Pennsylvania, too, I believe!

Rave: Unabashed patriotism.

God Bless America!

annesherrod,
I'll write a recommendation for the "Squid Academy". My few have benefited several - the last is now a MAJ, MC, USA (he didn't make the USN cut).
Central Mexico is absolutely wonderful.
When are you coming to visit?
Mike

Farewell to our dear Andre Agassi. He just walked off center court losing to Nadal and will now retire.

Wimbledon fans have always been good to him.

I wept.

Thanks for the memories, Andre, we grew up together and you will be missed dearly.

enzian Jul 1st, 2006 10:57 AM

We wept too, and I'll miss him. . . . thanks for posting, Tiff.

enzian Jul 1st, 2006 11:02 AM

But wait---he's not retiring until after the U.S. Open. So this was his last Wimbledon, but not his final tournament. One more chance to watch him play. . .

Tiff Jul 1st, 2006 11:06 AM

REALLYYYYYYYYYY??????????

enzian, you have made my day, the report we heard said he was retiring after Wimbledon.

What joy has just filled my heart, you have no idea!

One last dance.

I would give anything to be there.

Thanks enzian, you really did make me smile!

Tiff Jul 1st, 2006 11:09 AM

Rave ~ Rave ~ Rave ~ enzian is the ruler of the raves for the day!!!!!

And let us do a happy dance in honor of enzian...

Me, too! Tears in my eyes and a sting in my throat watching Andre address the crowd--what a moment! So happy to know he'll play the U.S. Open--I was wondering about that.

enzian Jul 1st, 2006 12:11 PM

Well, assuming it's true, the credit for the information goes to my stepdaughter---she's going to the Open with her dad, and she checked (on the internet) just after we watched Andre's farewell at Center Court.

I miss the old temper tantrums that John MacEnroe threw in his time.
OldSouthernBelle, snakes have lazy cousins that far north? Don't the bears eat them in the summer? Brian

OldSouthernBelle Jul 1st, 2006 02:52 PM

I've never heard of bears eating snakes!
I thought they went for berries and honey...and the grizzly ones for fish & small animals?

jorr Jul 3rd, 2006 10:49 AM

My patio set got jumped yesterday! A total loss. Some of our friends got a little too into the moment and landed on it.
