Rant, Jorr, not the end of the rain in N CA. It rained today and rain due tomorrow and the news said that this June is the wettest June in the history of N CA. And a couple of days ago it was in the 90's. Take care.

Rant: The rain came back to MA.
Rave: The unbearable heat and humidity are gone. Rant: Independence Airline. They might be cheap but their ontime record stinks. Rave: Despite abovesaid airline, my husband made it home veerrryy late last night and will join me in watching our eigth grader "graduate. Echoing what many of you expressed last week, "seems like just yesterday she was in preschool" etc. She does not seem old enough for high school. Raves: Monday is MY last day of school!! Hawaii in 2 1/2 weeks!!! |
Good Friday morning. The weather here in Central NJ is lovely and cool this morning. The heat wave is finally gone.
Rave: DD #2 graduating from HS in the next week. Then off to college in August. Rave: Preliminary discussions begun between my husband and a company located in Seattle. (We would love to move to Seattle.) Rave: My vegetable garden (my first ever) is looking good! I'll have tomatoes and peppers ready to harvest by July. Rave: Our August trip to San Diego is all planned and the plane tickets are paid for by FF miles. And we're traveling 1st class. Yippie! No rants except the news.... Have a wonderful weekend and a happy Fathers Day to all who are Dads. |
Rant: Deteriorating health of 2 loved ones: my mom, 87, and my yellow lab, 12. Mom is now in a nursing home, still having a difficult recovery from aspiration pneumonia since April. Dog was just diagnosed with intestinal lymphoma, undergoing chemo, but with a grave prognosis even if temporary remission is achieved. We are heartbroken...
Rave: Both of these loved ones had previously enjoyed full and active lives. Rant: the media's fascination with missing or abducted WHITE girls/women, while literally thousands of others from many ethnic backgrounds are missing every day without getting the same publicity. Rave: just found out that I will be accompanying DH on his business trip to Nice in late September, and we will build a southern France trip around this! (Will be asking lots of questions on the European boards!) Rave: Summer! |
Rant/Rave: 5 year old son graduates from pre-school this afternoon. My eldest will go to 4th grade in the fall. I wish I could stop the clock and just enjoy this for awhile. It is going too fast.
Rant/Rave: My DH and two sons will leave for Bottineau, North Dakota to visit grandparents on June 22. My DH will return on the 26th and my two sons will return via car with their grandfather 3 weeks later. The eldest went last summer for 2 weeks and had a wonderful, wonderful time. That is the only reason I am letting them go for so long. They will have wonderful memories of these trips. Heavy sigh... Rave: Planning for two long weekend trips for the summer - one to Philadelphia and one to Baltimore followed by a week of tent camping on Skyline Drive. Rant: Fodorites who are experiencing difficult times. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. |
Rave: Enjoying vegetables and fruit from our garden. Last night had freshly picked tomatoes, squash, and blueberries.
Rant: House is too quiet, since visiting grandchildren (and grand-puppies) went home! Rave: Planning my high school reunion get-together to be at our home in July. Best wishes, everybody. Byrd |

Rant: Being in a non-airconditioned school buildings when the heat index reaches 105! Thankfully the student I was assessing was not receiving formal testing -- it would have been ugly, <i>very</i> ugly!
Rave: Our heat and humidity (hate that humidity folks) broke! Cool, sunny, and in the 50s this morning :D Rave: My container garden is growing by leaps and bounds -- tomatoes starting to appear and the pepper plants are HUGE! No watering for me today -- rain was <b>so</b> heavy last night I was afraid the plants would snap. Thankfully they didn't! Rant: Professors who have insecurity problems -- get over yourself and your condescending attitude, please! Your are giving your students ulcers while trying to prove yourself. Student reviews are coming soon...they carry a lot of weight...I would re-think your current approach.... Rant: Fodors friends who are having difficulties...whether it is health, family, or job, keep positive! Sending good wishes to you all :) Rave: My sons "cooked" for me the other night! It was very sweet of them as they know I am about ready to crack under certain pressures. I thank God for them...they make me laugh when I think there is absolutely no reason to. Rave: Having a great summer visit with DH's teen daughter. Lots of fun and laughs.
Rave: It's Friday and I can finally be "off" with the two of them for the weekend. Rave: Just enough rain here at night to keep the island nice and green. Rave: Calm, clear ocean waters of late. Perfect for snorkeling and spending time at the beach. No rants this week, but I do send good wishes and thoughts to any of my Fodorite friends who are dealing with illnesses and other tough times in their lives. Have a great weekend everyone! :) |

Rant - unemployment (a double whammy for me) Rave - family and friends who are very supportive We are actually getting some rain this year in the western part of Canada -the past few years have been very drought-like, so this is good - to a point - you know the saying - when it rains it pours - no middle ground it seems!! Rave: Our househunting trip to Portland is booked.
Rave: By the middle of August we will be Portlanders. Rave: my tomato plant is taller than I and gives us 2 tomatoes a day , I feel like such a farmer! :D Rave: my children are well. My heart goes out to the mothers and fathers of children all around this world, who are in harms way, who are missing , and who have died. No parent should outlive their child. Rave: Another beautiful sunshiny day in south Texas. With humidity so low compared to FL where we lived until March...it actually has actually felt comfortable here. We've just this week turned on our A/C! No rants, other than for those here whose lives have taken some bumpy turns of late. Hopefully better times are right around the corner. To all the Dads among us...Happy Father's Day! Hope your day is terrific, whatever you do. My own DH will play golf in the morning, followed by that blasted golf tournament in the afternoon. That might be a rant, but he deserves all that and more. I'll not say a word--this one time! :D |

Rave: We survived our vacation with friends in Key West. Had fun in spite of them, but were happy to be home again last Sunday. Rave: I'm about to open a new business, partnering with my soon to be former boss. I'm very excited about the challenges of this new venture. Rave: the FFRR tradition, which fosters a Fodors community and brings people to the board on Fridays -- where they might actually read and post on other threads, too.
Correlative rant: killjoy curmudgeons who are annoyed by FFRR but can't resist posting anyway but who should look at the larger picture, here (see rave above). Rave: lovely weekend predicted -- cooler, dryer -- for Fathers' Day Weekend. Rant: son won't be around for F's Day and my own father died in 1960 -- I always miss him, even 45 years later. Wish he could meet and get to know my son. Rave: A great son; Dad would love him. Dad loved travel - died too young to go to all the places he used to read about (Lowell Thomas, etc.); son took me/us to Italy, loves to travel, too. <i><b><font color="blue"> Happy Fathers' Day to all Fodor Dads!!</font></b></i> |

Rave: Camping at San Clemente beach this weekend.
Rant: Back went out this morning, could barely walk, if its not better by 3:00, the trip is cancelled. Rave: That means the couch and movies all weekend for me, without the guilty feeling that none of my home projects are getting done. Rant: By Sunday night, I'll be going out of my mind of boredom. Oh well have a good weekend everyone. |

Rave--Both kids "graduated" from elementary and middle school this week.
Rant--DD hd a huge party here last night, and kitty must have tussled with a skunk and then went in to join all the girls, lol! Rave--I have survived the party...so far! Still a few hours to go and I have no idea how many girls are actually here. Rave--Made reservations for next summer (yes, already...as they book up far in advance) for the Canadian Rockies again. Will take extended family with us. Jersey--Exciting about Seattle! Sending good vibes for all of you that are suffering and/or under a ton of stress. Caph--Any news? Rant - thinking, planning, reviewing my itinerary soo much (ad nauseum!) that i begin second guessing everything BIG TIME ~ anyone else do that? Wondering WHY i can't just leave it alone and then just enjoy it!? Caph52 - still thinking and praying, how are you? Happy Fathers Day, all! As my mom used to say, anyone can be a father but it takes someone special to be a dad. Thankful i had a great one and also a great FIL! |

Rave: after 10 years in the same office, I am moving my therapy practice to a new one. It's a charming 1920's building. My clients seem to be faring well with the upheaval. Rave: sake tasting with friends tomorrow and Pappa's Day in Napa on Sunday. Rave: a short week next week & spending 3 days at Point Reyes. Rave: I can only rave this week really. Good thoughts to all in the throes of life's sorrows. Margot55~South of France. Check out the Petit Luberon and definitely look into Les Trois Sources as a place to stay just outside Bonnieux. It's beautiful, the hosts are gracious, it's affordable and a great spot from which to explore the region. We also really liked Aix en Provence which will be fairly close to you from Nice. It is a beautiful city. |

I forgot to say, A Big Rave to all the Fathers out there in Fodorland. Mine died before I was born and my Grandfather filled in extremely well until my mom remarried. My step dad was a perfect father. What else can you call a man that took a little girl fishing with him every week? LOL My husband has met all Perfect Father requirements so we love celebrating all Fathers Days for all sorts of Fathers! |
Rave: Spending the weekend with my dad, grandpa and a lot of family.
Rant: Seven hour drive today and on again on Sunday. Rave: My husband, a stay at home dad. He is wonderful with our daughter and wonderful at taking care of all the stuff that staying at home entails. My favorite memory of daughter and husband: The first few nights home from the hospital and walking into the living room to find daughter cuddled on husband's chest, both sound asleep, with the sound of ESPN's Sports Center murmuring in the background. Rave: Cassandra's so very eloquent testimonial for FF R&R!
Rant: I too wonder why people bother to open threads they know they're not going to like. Or why they care when it's obvious that it brings joy to others. No skin off their nose, right? Rant: After a week of more testing (bone marrow biopsy, PET scan, another CT scan), we're still waiting. Rave: The hematololgist didn't immediately diagnose cancer. He said that it's a possibility, but by no means the *only* possibility. He stressed to my husband that he was putting lymphoma on all the paperwork only because he had to have some diagnosis in order to get the referrals for the tests. You take your encouragment where you can get it, right? Rave: One of the many worries for my husband as a result of this health scare was that it would knock him out of the running for a promotion he was hoping to get. He got it despite their knowing that he could potentially miss a lot of work in the weeks to come! Rave: The hours of much-needed distraction this board has provided for me this past week. Especially the wedding gifts and bachelorette party threads! I may have released a little of my pent-up tension in my responses to those! Fortunately, there have also been several travel-related threads I knew enough about to chime in. Rave: Absolutely gorgeous days in the western Chicago 'burbs yesterday and today. Thanks so much to mms and Ellen Griswold for asking how things are going. Definitley, still need those prayers! |

Rave: Cooler with brief showers last three days here in SMdA. Ideally, the beginnng of another wonderful Summer.
Rave: Electric bill for the last 64 days (3 ceiling fans 24/7) was $191.MXP. Rave: SO's 6th G'child was delivered on Thursday (a $100,000. IVF success). Rave: Everyone in our families is secure and in good health after a couple of recent scares. Happy Father's Day! M |
Rave: Son graduated from high school last weekend. Voted biggest flirt and was mentioned in the faculty address to graduates when the speaker wondered aloud if he'd managed to make it to the ceremony on time.
Rant: Have hardly seen him since. Rant: The weather. After last night, I don't think we need to worry about drought in Portland anymore. |
Scarlett: Fishing with your stepdad! LOL. Every Father's Day I used to replace all of the fishing lures and flies that I had lost over the year. It's fun to fish with Dad!

Caph--That waiting is awful, I know, but on the other hand it sounds like there is the possibility of much better news. I am so glad for that for you. Yes, take every bit of optimism you can! I need to schedule DS for a recheck and am sort of dreading it. You just kind of don't want to deal with it all...you want it to just go away. Still thinking of you and definitely keep us posted! Mikemo--Congrats on the baby. Beachbum--LOL! I saw the TT said they are covering the graduations in next weeks issue. Wonder if I will see your DS in it. mms, do I ever know what you mean about dreading that recheck! You want to find out that everything is okay. But part of you is thinking that as long as you don't know, you still have hope. Also very much understand the feeling of just wanting it all to go away!
We'll be praying for very good news for you. Let us know. My heart goes out to all of the others dealing with these kind of things. And my admiration goes to all of you who are fighting, or have fought, serious illness. It takes a lot of courage to deal with all the tests, treatments, etc. and stay positive. Thanks, Tiff! |
