'bummer,
It would be our sincere pleasure!!! Great news on Mrs B'bum. I'm sure some other SF area Fodie's may wish to join us??? Mrs Kal is doing the Chicago Marathon Oct 9th so she will probably not run this one so you may have to put up with her, too. Oct 23rd, yah? My Sis in law is running it in my niece's honor and we'll probably go down for moral support. 26 mile walk may be 6-8 hrs-ish depending on training/ weather conditions. Drop me a line when you can so we can coordinate. Kalkahuna @ceoexpress.com |
Beachbum--I have done the Seattle Marathon for the last 5 years (both walking and running, obviously in different years, lol!). Tell your wife to plan on about 6 hours for walking. That should give you plenty of time for a few drinks:)
|
"Maybe we can meet in a bar near the finish line and wait for our wives." that's THE SPIRIT!! LOL
May a non-running wife join you? Count me in! Start a new thread, I'm sure you'll get a great company of stars. ***** kome to mind :) |
Faina... >:D<:*:-X
I'll save you a seat! |
CAPH52
You are both in my heart and mind! I pray this is just a bump in the road. Rant: Cancer SUCKS Rave: Survival is getting better and better!!! Hope and believe! |
JJ5,Jorr,Mikemoand FianaAgain' .....Rant continued
I've traveled by train in Switzerland, Italy and France. I've driven in several countries. What burns me up is that we have the economic ability to capitalize on tourism, moving goods to market efficently and be profitable in doing so. I have been on the I-80 and I-5, I-15,I-40 and I-95. With the baby boomers coming online it would seem to me that the brains in the Government would get their collective heads out of their butts and do something positive. This is an awesome country and it needs to be seen. We fly over it and we drive it but it's like riding a horse...it is more marvelous when you see it at ground level without distractions. Fault the Railroad workers Unions and the Railroad companies for killing the Goose that laid the Golden Egg when it comes to profitablity. I'm thinking more of a new Rail System buying up land as we did during the initial Interstate Highway System roadmap. As a Floridian I can only think of the 26M that was given to Dade County for Hurricane relief last year. Of course Dade had no Hurricane damage as the storm missed them. Uff da! |
Thank you ******Kal******
JohnTheDorf, "the brains in the Government" - is this one of the oxymoron expressions? |
Rant: Serious health concerns, they absolutely suck. I know.
Rave: I bought a printer. Now I don't need to sit here and write everyone's names down who need prayers! Please know that I pray for you guys, when you ask. And even sometimes when ya don't. Rave: All of the helpful advice I get reading all of your posts. Rave: My niece (11) sang a solo at her "graduation" and did so well. She also one an award for overcoming adversity. We were all so proud. Be well all! |
As always, hugs, prayers and good wishes to all who are having difficult times, especially regarding health.
Rave: I just walked in the door about an hour ago, as I returned from my trip to the UK. It was a fabulous trip with very little rain, except in the Lake District. We hooked up w/some pals in England and had a blast. We also loved Wales. Stay tuned to the Europe board, I hope to get a trip report out in the next week or so. Rant: I am dead tired and about to pass out on my keyboard. Kindly forgive any typos. Rant: Do not ever check your messages from home while standing in line to go thru customs. The line was very long so I decided to check mine. There was a message from my boss telling me in a trembling voice to call her before looking at my e-mail. I knew right away this wasn't good, so I called at once. Long story short, my job will end next year as my office will be consolidated with our other office in a city I hate. I will have the option to move to that city if I want to keep my job, but I can't imagine myself living there. I will withhold the name of that city for fear of offending any posters who live there. However, we will consider a move to Houston or Dallas, but that would mean starting over with another company. I'm so depressed at the thought of leaving my beloved Austin. :-(( Rave: I hate to end on a negative note, so here's a rave. I am happy that all of my loved ones and my dog are OK. I worry about them when I'm away. That means a lot more than any job. :-) |
Gee, P_M, what news to receive on the start of your vacation -- big hugs to you!
|
Thank you, seetheworld, I needed that hug very much.
Those damn cell phones, they make it too easy to keep in touch while traveling. I liked it better when I could go on a trip and be oblivious to the problems at home. I'm off to bed now. Please wake me up on Sunday. I-| |
To all who are worrying about the results of health test I send my prayers and good thoughts. May all your news be good.
To all who have employment problems I send wishes that they may somehow be resolved and that in the future you look back and say "what seemed like bad news turned out to be good news". May everyone have something pleasant and happy to think about; be it a dinner in a favorite restaurant, a weekend away to your favorite spot, or a longed for vacation be in your plans and dreams. May all your plans and dreams come true. |
Rant: Why don't florist flowers have scents anymore?
Rave: Someone helped me find white roses that actually had a scent! Took a small bouquet to my 103 year old grandmother. Rave: She was talking that day. She announced to one and all "That's a RRRROOOOOSSSSSSEEEE! (I swear "rose" was a five second word!) Rave: Wonderful neighbor helped to build a dog kennel for my newly returned labs. The auger on the tractor cut through Georgia red clay like buttah. Rave: The labs adjusted nicely to their new confines - and the sweet one held her pee for 12 hours until I got home tonight- even though 1/2 of the enclosure is grass! Rave: Spent the day with my sister as she recuperates from surgery. No more workaholic for me. P-M - think long and hard about moving from Austin. Glad the vacation went well. Sorry about the bad timing with the news. Thoughts and prayers going to CAPH and DH and others dealing with health issues. |
Rave: CAPH felt comfortable confiding in us and fodorites came through for her!
Rant: Cancer/the threat of cancer/the fear of cancer...I'm sorry CAPH (and Ryan) that you have to deal w/this sh-t. I apologize for my potty mouth but can't think of another word that expresses how I feel. A shoutout to my friend who is doing the Team in Training 1/2 marathon in Anchorage next week. Last year, she was a couch potato and now look what she's going to accomplish! To all those parents of graduates and those w/bdays--congrats To those w/stresses, big and small, here's a wish for easier times And for everyone--wishes for a weekend of sunshine and smiles! |
beachbum, thank you for telling me about your wife. That is so very encouraging! As I said earlier, most of the good stories I've heard have been about younger people. And Hodgkins seems to be much more "beatable" than non-Hodgkins. Since we don't yet know what we're up against, it's really good to hear about a good outcome with non-Hodgkins.
All in all, I've been very impressed with the number of cancer survivors I've heard from today. Certainly makes you feel more hopeful. All the best to both of you. I hope her story continues to be a very good one! |
Welcome back OWJ! How's the new house?
|
OWJ, a big second on your rave! And, as for your rant, potty mouth is the best way I can think of to express it!
|
Hey Starrs! The house is most definately a work in progress but I love, love, looove our new home. We are hemorraging money, as my husband likes to point out, but it's fun--and exhausting!
I'll write you off the message board so as not to hijack this thread :) OWJ ------- CAPH--another sucess story to cheer you guys on. I had a student about 4yrs ago w/non-Hodgkin's whom I still keep in touch with and he's doing great. It wasn't a fun time for anyone in that family but it's the outcome that matters, right?! There's lots of resources available to you--who knows, networking through fodors (as crazy as that seems) can't hurt. Lean on us if you need to :) |
Rave...I'm so glad the sourpuss from a few weeks ago didn't deter someone from seeking solace when needed here, and that those who have been down this road could offer encouragement for CAPH52! I'll keep you all in my thoughts and prayers! OWJ, you expressed it just right--cancer deserves nuttin' but potty mouth!
Kudos to the graduates...closing that chapter just means another opens, with the fun of exploration ahead for you all. We should have our last graduate this year as our son-in-law snags his PhD, after many years. :) Rant: We are picking up my car from the shop this morning for the 3rd time this week. The last two times we didn't even get it home before the problem (brakes locking) recurred. Rave: They say the 3rd time is a charm. :D |
OO: Sincere congratulations to your son! Such a wonderful (and difficult) accomplishment. Best of luck to him!
