FREAKY FRIDAY RANTS AND RAVES
It's early for this, jor doesn't usually get us going til after noon, but what the heck.
Rave: Signed on the line for the new car this wk. & pick it up tonight. Have only had two new cars in my life before this. It's a great car for travel and hiking/camping trips, lots of bells and whistles. Rant: Can't get excited about the new car. Am grieving about giving up my old one after 15 loyal yrs. Can't bear the thought of having it picked up for donation next wk. How silly is this. Husband thinks I am nuts. Rant: DC's problem w/lead in the pipes and water in many homes. What else does DC need, we are just recovering from 9/11. Oh, and the Natl. Zoo problems. Rave: sunny today! ITS FRIDAY! and baseball starts soon! |
I think it's great that you are donating your car.
Are you aware of the cautions you should be taking because of the problems that have occurred in the DC area? |
Rave: I got 495 RT airfare to Paris late April!
Rave: I'm going to Houston for the weekend where it will be warmer than Indiana! Rant: Don't really have one. :-) |
Rave: heading to Rome next week (can't wait)
Rant: Still much planning to do, and I have to work this weekend |
rave: can't wait to relax now that it's the w'end!
rave: next week is my birthday! rant: my poor kitty is getting 'fixed' this monday. :o rant: i'm tired. |
Rave: leaving for Florida in a few hours.
Rant: At work right now and don't want to be Rave/Rant: It's supposed to hit the 50s this weekend in NY and I'm in Florida. Why couldn't I go when it was 10 and snowing. |
RAVE: The countdown continues... I'm due in 7 weeks.
RAVE: And I'm still able to run on the treadmill! RANT: I am getting NO sleep-maybe an hour ot 2 last night-and managed to pinch a nerve in my neck in the process. Soothing. |
jasper, I bet I know what your kitties RANT is :)
Rant: Up at 6 am waiting for the carpet installers, at 10 I called and found they are not coming.. Rave: I have to think of one, I am still too annoyed about the above Rant. |
Rave: It's Friday!
Rave: My son turned 11 last week and we're having a Birthday Party for him- a sleepover for 10 of his friends on Saturday, then taking them all snow-tubing on Sunday! Rant: 11 boys @ a sleepover wrestling and playing video games - ugh! Rave: It's not at my house! Rant: They grow up too fast! |
Rave: I leave for Hawaii in one week!
Rant: I have a very bad cold. Ugh! |
Rant: The price of gas. I just paid $47 to fill my tank and I don't drive a big SUV. I can't imagine how much it would cost to fill a Suburban.
Rave: It finally stopped raining (I love rain but I really need to get outside)! Just started reading a new book "American Dynasty" by Kevin Phillips. It's a interesting book so far. I'd suggest reading it if you're on the fence about who to vote for in Nov. It's Oscar weekend! I didn't see Lord of the Rings but I have feeling it's going to take home a lot of statues. Happy Friday. |
rave 1: although there's still tons of snow on the ground i can see signs of Spring everywhere-buds on my Japanese maple, signs on the nursey and ice cream stand I pass going to work each day announcing their openings for the season next week.
rave 2: only about week til the girls go for a night out and see Bette Midler! rant: 36 days til Spring vacation and a trip to Florida. |
Rave: Rain stopped!!!
Rant: Our San Jose board psycho is back in full swing with FOUR names now |
Rave: Van Morrison is coming here in April--oh, joy!
Rant: Why oh why do people on this board post requsts for info and then fail to return?? I have asked follow up questions, given detailed suggestions, and checked back in vain for any kind of answer or acknowledgement from the original poster. Why, I'm beginning to feel unappreciated! |
scarlett...that's definatley my kitten's rant!
|
Rant: Job
Rave: Going to Paris next week on a trip that was on/off/on again (for sure now), so isn't it great to have a job that pays for it? So forget the rant! |
RAVE: Sun's out! Rain gone for a couple of days, then clears up for my company's off-site conference in Dana Point! Yay!
RANT: Sister has to have surgery for a tiny lung tumor. RAVE: Her doctors are at Memorial Sloane-Kettering; she's been through this before (VERY annoying, a bit frightening, but not horrible); prognosis is excellent! They force her to exercise after lung surgery-- and she's in the best shape of her life right now, so she'll be fine. [UP ON SOAPBOX NOW] RAVE: She's an inspiration to us all. Cancer is a LIFE sentence, not a death sentence, and it's up to us to keep our lives wonderful in sickness or in health. RANT: More money needed for medical research! PLEASE donate to a major medical charity-- they all need your help (American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, AmFAR). [END OF SOAPBOX PONTIFICATION] RANT: People, people, do we *have* to mention this again? PUT THE PLACE YOU'RE ASKING ABOUT IN THE GODDAMN TITLE OF YOUR POST!! RAVE: Counting the weeks until my Memorial Day Weekend trip to BOSTON!!! RAVE: Thinking about South Beach for my 40th...! RANT: My birthday is in AUGUST (*melt*).... |
Rant: Horrible flu for the past 5 days but finally feeling kind of normal...
Rave: Going to a black-tie Oscar party on Sunday -- sounds like fun! |
another rant: the whole rigamorole post this wk. from the mother who wanted to either: 1) take her kids to a place where she could get a drink w/food; 2) take her kids in a place where she could get a drink without food; 3) take her kids to a place where she could get a drink while waiting for food; 4) take her kids in a place where she could get sloshed and get picked up and go to a motel and leave the kids in the bar; 5) order a drink for the kids; 6) bait the kids to become alcoholics.
It got pretty silly but it sure got people going. |
Rave: leaving for Hawaii in one week!
Rant: The horrible internet ticket system used to sell Cubs tickets, which went on sale this morning. I never want to see or hear the words "Virtual Waiting Room" again! |
rjw_lgb_ca: that's not ranting, it's inspiring! Best of luck to your sister.
As for me: rave - I get to go on concert tour with my sweetie and his chamber choir in less than 3 weeks! rant - he's had late night rehearsals all this week and I haven't spent any kind of time with him since Tuesday. rave - He doesn't have to rehearse tomorrow! rant - but they have a big concert and he's got to focus, because he's got a significant solo. rave - I'll get to hear him sing it! |
Rant: I can't seem to fall asleep before 2am at all which kills me when I get up at 6:30am for work.
Rant: They switched the trains by my house which now adds 10 minutes to my already hour and 10 min commute from Brooklyn to Manhattan. And yet they claim this switch was supposed to "save time"! Ha! Rave: 3 more hours and I get to go home for the weekend! Woohoo! And the weather is supposed to be in the 50's! Rant: Just when we all thought it was safe to post....the SJ Weirdo is back... Rant: People who: 1. Don't put their location in the title of their post 2. Refuse to do searches 3. Post the same question numerous times instead of topping the original post when someone doesn't answer them in 10 minutes 4. Decide to travel during a major holiday and then gripe about why it's so expensive or there's no availability. (same rule applies for those who book last minute.) Maybe we should start a thread titled: Posting Tips for Newbies!! Rave: Today is payday....enuff said ;-) |
Rant: The 76ers
|
rjw, big props to your sister for being such a hero and an inspiration!
Rant: It's 38 degrees and raining today. Rave: It is supposed to be in the 70s all next week. Upper 60s by tomorrow! |
Rant: Temp. Low 60's in Florida
Rave: Today's my BIRTHDAY!!! |
Rant: I had food poisoning from shrimp this week and my car has a flat tire.
Rave: I lost a little bit of weight from the food poisoning and my tire was fixed for free! HAPPY FRIDAY! |
poochie - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
rjw - best of luck to your sister - many blessings to her! emd1 - ROFLMAO from that thread - just craziness! Ani - Did you pick out names yet? (I think there's a thread on here about it from you) Hang in there! Happy Travels to all and to all a Good Weekend! |
poochie: Do your loved ones sing "Happy Birthday, dear Poochie" at the end of the song for you? The fodorites will.
|
Thanks to all for the good wishes for my sister, who's busy painting and faux-wainscoting my mom's basement right now in Bucks County CA. Her goal will be to get healed up and finish my mom's redecorating before summer, when it'll be too hot!
|
I wish they did. Sadly, they sing "You look like a monkey and you smell like one too". This is a "Family Tradition" that my father and his sense of humor(?) started when we were small children. But I don't sing that to my child.
|
poochie, I wished you a Happy Birthday with flowers and rjw-I wished your sister well and told you how lucky she is to be your sister!!!...but Fodors ate it up~
SO....HAPPY BIRTHDAY POOCHIE ((F))((F)) |
emd, thanks for starting the post for me. I got caught up in my hair this morning! I'll get on it earlier next Friday.
Rant: A constitutional amendment about marriage. Oh Pleeaase no. Rave: Its 40 degrees and sunny in North Dakota \:D/ |
Sam,EMD1, and Scarlett-- Thank you all so much for the birthday wishes. Oh, I have another Rave: Two ice cold bottles of Taittinger waiting in the fridge.
|
=D>: Friday/Payday and it's sunny outside-expecting good weekend weather.
=D>: MelissaHI did bring the sunshine from Hawaii on her trip to SF. >:O: Mrs Kal and I can't go to SF and party with her! Like she'll need our help. |
RAve: Poochie will have a toast for us all tonight, won't you?
can't get this weird picture out of my head of jor caught up in jor's hair. rant: people who enjoy making a big deal out of correcting someone, in real life and on fodors |
sam: thanks! name post wasn't started by me...I just made a comment on it b/c MY name is unusual (to folks from these parts, at least)...we've had our child's name picked out for years!
|
Scarlett: You are so very sweet! I'm blushing.... :">
|
RAVE: Inspiration from wonderful, altho faceless people we meet on line.....such as RJ's comment: "RAVE: Cancer is a LIFE sentence, not a death sentence, and it's up to us to keep our lives wonderful in sickness or in health."
Thank you rj, how profoundly true! And i will quote you! Praying for your sis...keep us posted! (also, many companies will match donations to charities and non-profit organizaions....see your HR dept for details.) RAVE: We get to see son 'rusty' soon, who is now away at college. YAAAAY! Miss him soo much, but he's kickin major butt and having the time of his life! ;) |
topping for RJ, our fave SoCal expert! ;) |
ellen: Awww, you're too sweet too! :">
My sis is doing fine-- a bit down, but this is NOT dire, just serious. There's no evidence of any other growths, and there's an outside chance this ISN'T malignant. In any case, everyone's very optimistic. We'll get it behind us so she can have a good summer! Monday RANT: When oh WHEN will we be able to have a thread concerning the San Francisco Bay Area survive more than a day without the bizarre misdirections of our resident San José booster?! I've noticed that people that actually HAVE reasons to go to San José now cite this nutjob specifically when they say why they WON'T ever go there. It's a shame-- the Tech Museum is truly great.... |
