Freaky Friday again. Any rants or raves?

here's mine. the national media reported that president Bush departed from texas at 8:30 eastern time on his way to iraq. he departed at 7:30. eastern time was irrelevant to the event. we all don't run on east coast time. comments?

GoTravel Nov 28th, 2003 12:51 PM

I threw the turkey carcass off the deck for the birds and now the seagulls are pooping all over the deck.

MelissaHI Nov 28th, 2003 01:07 PM

Here's mine: Many of my family members post on fodors. Toward the end of Thanksgiving dinner, we were commenting on the many ignorant, misinformed posts regarding "Live in Hawaii" and "Locals don't want us there." It's so bad on those threads that we can't even go back to dignify the threads with a response!

GoTravel Nov 28th, 2003 01:36 PM

How do you fold the damn map!?!

wemr Nov 28th, 2003 01:37 PM

They call today "Black Friday". Its all about women behaving badly. We should call it "Jack Ass For Women".

LOL

Meesthare Nov 28th, 2003 01:46 PM

GoTravel, does that mean it should be called the Poop Deck?
Just asking. :)

MzPossum Nov 28th, 2003 04:26 PM

jor, they probably just want to give a frame of reference and timetable. Obsessives like me can then figure out how long it took and what time he'd get back to Crawford (and whether that bit of I-35 they showed on TV looked familiar to me.) Now THAT is really irrelevant. How about the fact that Hillary R. Clinton visited the troops today?

joan Nov 28th, 2003 05:46 PM

Gotravel, you crack me up.

But you really know better than to feed those damn gulls...:)

BAK Nov 28th, 2003 07:26 PM

I've talked with a few Americans visiting Toronto, doing their shopping.

Two somewhat giggly but very polite teenage girls were on the subway today, moving from the neighborhood with the mid-level prices up to Yorkville, with the high-level prices. They already had about eight different bags with them.

They were off on an adventure, riding the subway in a foreign country, looking for things to buy, and all in all, seemed to be having a good time.

Somewhere there should be proud parents; they raised their daughters well.

It's been raining for two solid days, but Toronto's got a maze of tunnels to keep shoppers dry, and I managed to direct three grown-up couples to the passageways. All were from the USA.

Plus there were two French people I saw today. They had on long raincoats, waterproof hats, and had only one day to see the whole city, so were staying above ground, rain or not.

And my friend Joanne, who works in the middle of the Yorkville shopping area, was off to Buffalo today to join Americans in your own shopping extravaganas.

Here's mine- Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday- laid back, little commercialism- just family get togethers and eating! Much more enjoyable than Xmas which has gotten way out of hand- getting to be one giant tinsel laden commercial, all about $$$$ !!

Marilyn Nov 29th, 2003 12:53 PM

Here's a rave, for Kal, for organizing a post-Thanksgiving Friday GTG in Yountville. And another rave for PamSF, Peg, KirRoyale and "Mr. Kir", razzledazzlers, and the delightful Mrs. Kal (who is shorter than I am, just in case anyone is interested), for showing up in the rain to drink a lot of red wine and eat enough Italian deli to put our nitrite levels off the charts. A good time was had by all!!

razzledazzle Nov 29th, 2003 01:56 PM

Here's a second rave for the Yountvillers GTG! Kal, for organizing that which should be an annual event, and the marvelous company of Mrs. Kal, Marilyn,Phil Flash,Peg,PamsSF and the Kir Royals. And yes I think Mrs. Kal may be shorter than Marilyn and we'll soon have photo documentation to prove it! It was raining?

MelissaHI Nov 30th, 2003 12:42 PM

Heyyyyyy....I think I resemble that remark!! I think Mrs. Kal & I are the same height!

Marilyn Nov 30th, 2003 01:07 PM

HiMelissa -- I resemble that remark too, even though I made it. It was a bit of a joke at the end of the evening, and a photo was taken of Mrs. Kal and yours truly standing, in time-honored fashion, back to back. So we shall see. I just put it in my post to tease the charming Mrs. K.

cigalechanta Nov 30th, 2003 02:44 PM

ok, so what are the heights?

Paul Nov 30th, 2003 02:50 PM

Pacific Heights?

(... sorry - just had to!)

Marilyn Nov 30th, 2003 03:46 PM

I was 5'2-1/2" the last time I was measured, and I sure hope I haven't started shrinking yet.

cigalechanta Nov 30th, 2003 04:33 PM

Paul, I'm always tempted to answer that, like Whethering heights? :)
Marylyn, we are the same height.

Marilyn Nov 30th, 2003 05:12 PM

Mimi, we will not be comparing weights!!

cigalechanta Nov 30th, 2003 05:40 PM

LOL, ok, but let us compare loving experiences of travel. Much better subject that we all love.
Paul, how much do you weight....lol

cigalechanta Nov 30th, 2003 05:43 PM

P.S. Paul, makes no doifference, I like ypou just the where you are. But with the title "Freaky Friday"we are all oen game, as opposed to Thank God It's friday.
Hope everyone had a wonderful Thursday.

Paul Nov 30th, 2003 06:10 PM

Hmmm.... We're talkin' weight and measures now, huh? This WAS a Freaky Friday! LOL

I'm 5'9" and 153# firm and fit. Wish I were taller, but you know what they say... "Wish in one hand and dream in the other."

Have a great start to your week!

Paul

PS Your 5'2" can be wonderfully damn cute!

Kal Dec 2nd, 2003 04:09 PM

Thanks my FFFs!

It's pretty easy to do when we have such a "hang loose" crowd.
Even the rain couldn't dampen our spirits.

Mrs Kal is still "five foot nuthin'" and the pic clearly shows Marilyn towering over her.
After this weekend, I just want to stay away from discussing "widths"! ;)

cigalechanta Dec 2nd, 2003 04:20 PM

It snowed today, the roads were slippery, everyone didn't expect here in Boston, so it took motorists, in some cases four times as long to reach
Their destination. It was weird watching the news on tv showing these
drivers on their cell phones, calling home or work and cancelling appointments.

Patrick Dec 2nd, 2003 07:55 PM

I can only say that people who concern themselves that the media quote a time in Eastern instead of central time, really has too much time on his hands or is definitely overly anal.
And yes, jor, you did ask for "comments" so that was mine.

_tHe_hApPy_wAiTeR_ Dec 3rd, 2003 06:57 AM

Hmmm... "Overly Anal?"

...sounds good to me!

*tHe hApPy wAiTeR*

;-)

jor Dec 3rd, 2003 08:26 AM

patrick, are you trying to tell us what kind of videos you're into? lol

Scarlett Dec 3rd, 2003 08:27 AM

Congratulations jor,
I think you have won the Most Tasteless Post for today.

ahhnold Dec 3rd, 2003 08:37 AM

For some reason,I think jor's real issue is why did'nt a liberal Democrat think of that great idea before Bush. This may have been his troll way of starting a Bush bash rally.

jor Dec 3rd, 2003 08:57 AM

ahhnold/uncle sam, read my post again. it has nothing to do with politics, liberal, conservative, nothing.

ahhnold Dec 3rd, 2003 09:05 AM

Why is it that most liberals think Uncle Sam is the ONLY conservative on this board. We are everywhere, jor.

Heres my rave. Bravo to GWB for having the guts to go to Iraq to boost morale,as well as Hillary in Afghanistan. I am waiting for the Democratic candidates to bash him for it,but not Hillary. There,I have made it political.

jor Dec 3rd, 2003 09:21 AM

congratulations.

Rant for today: upscale hotels that have crummy cable TV, not enough hangers (never enough), and really crummy clock-radios -- esp. the ones that go off at 2 am.

What about atrium-style hotels with floodlights in the atrium that shine up into the interior rooms. Duh.

I had another rant from my last stay at a Hilton that wasn't as good as it should be, but I forgot! Guess it's because it's only Wednesday. Stay tuned.

gojacks Dec 3rd, 2003 09:31 AM

Speaking of Hilton,my rant is why was the Paris Hilton video so foggy and green. I mean come on. I've never heard of this girl til' every TV show is talking about this video and thats all we get to see? Well, now she is on the cover of People Mag., so her stunt worked.

rjw_lgb_ca Dec 3rd, 2003 09:38 AM

And as long as we're piling on Paris Hilton (something I think she'd like *LOL*), is it just me or is there anyone else who thinks she's, well, ugly? I wouldn't give her a second glance in a club if I didn't know she was a rich heiress. And her dryer-lint IQ just reinforces my observation that the Hilton family needs a bit of chlorine in their gene pool....

gojacks Dec 3rd, 2003 09:46 AM

What's sad is it sets the bar for the intellect of the country. Paris Hilton, like the "former" Madonna know to well how to exploit themselves thru sex and deceit. It is sad. She will now become a common household name only for taking off her clothes.

beanbag Dec 3rd, 2003 10:01 AM

Christine Argumenta, Brittany Seers.
and Paris Stilton are all alike. Sleazy.

jor Dec 3rd, 2003 10:11 AM

i saw paris hilton on "the simple life" last night. i think it will be a hit. how about some other reality show ideas...
jessica simpson working at home depot.
jacko working in a steel mill.
eminem living in a convent.
opra and howard stern sharing an apartment.

btw, i have my arm in a cast and can only type with one finger....no caps.

Beatle Dec 3rd, 2003 01:19 PM

My rant- What a waste to bomb Iraq- we should have destroyed MJ's Neverland Estate.

kalena Dec 6th, 2003 08:19 PM

My rant: Now Bush is sending his pal James Baker to Iraq. Baker is one of the Saudi government's chief supporters in the US. His law firm, Baker Botts, is now representing the Saudi government in the $ 1 trillion law suit filed against Saudi Arabia for its alleged role in the 9/11 attacks by the victims' families. Baker also serves as senior counsel and partner in the Carlyle investment group, which is a financial adviser to the Saudi government. Is this a cozy administration, or what?
