ARGHHHHHH!!!! ORANGE!!!!! ARGHHHHH!

It looks like the latest color scheme for a fast-food chain featuring processed cheese.

ARGHHHH !!!

(But like the format, otherwise).

wsozrebel: Methinks those earthy colors are better off in the dirt of the earth. But it does kind of remind me of Sedona, where I will be hiking two weeks from today, then having a post-hike massage (independent massage therapist, I'll let you know how it goes).

Ouch. After playing on Fodor's for about half an hour and then leaving the computer I see a bright white spot in my upper left field of vision. It must be a result of that bold black FODORS.

I argued that I loved the cobalt and lime color scheme we had before and I knew we'd be punished for so many people complaining. But I call this blaring one "cruel and inhuman" punishment.

I like the new home page better. The Travel Talk home page is also interesting. It even lists the hot threads at the moment. AND there are now more forums. New ones such as "travel lounge" Guess that's where we'll have to hold Friday night cocktail hour now. :)

Very interesting, Fodors!

I was thinking that the colors are really late 60's - I remember wanting to repaint my room like this - but my mom nixed it.

But it does seem to work for a web site. About 10 times better than that largely illegible sickly green combo.

cd Feb 12th, 2005 07:02 AM

I don't get it, my "read" threads are still "red"

Statia Feb 12th, 2005 07:10 AM

cd....well, my unread are blue and now my read ones are grey. I liked the red better. And, when my cursor moves over a thread, it's orange. Strange.

Anya Feb 12th, 2005 07:24 AM

This color scheme just bothers me, it overwhelms the whole screen and I don't think I'll continue to read the forums if it stays like that. Why can't they keep it blue and red.

Patrick Feb 12th, 2005 07:29 AM

I have my computer set to royal blue as my main background color, so that's the color of my upper and lower tool bars. I think that bright blue mixed with all this "rotting tangerine" and "bleached red" is what is really making it all ugly.

annesherrod Feb 12th, 2005 07:40 AM

I don't like it. I would prefer colors of the Caribbean or soemthing!!!

cd Feb 12th, 2005 07:41 AM

Wow Statia, that is really strange.

Statia Feb 12th, 2005 07:42 AM

cd, people say they are having the same effect as I am over on the European forum. Glad you still have red, though!

iceeu2 Feb 12th, 2005 07:43 AM

Mine is the same as yours Statia.

Fodorite018 Feb 12th, 2005 07:44 AM

I really like the new look! The colors are much easier on the eyes.

Statia--I am seeing the same colors as you (grey/red, orange).

Diana Feb 12th, 2005 07:45 AM

One word - ewwwww.

(Is that a word?)

Overall, I like it. I do think that the content pages look better than the forum pages, but the forum is a script running in separate frames. I don't think the blue belongs in the new color scheme.

I think they're trying to mate the website to the new look of the book covers. All of the new books since mid last year look like this.:

http://www.fodors.com/shop/buy/?isbn=1-4000-1411-5

I think they got the dark orange a little off and would have done better to match the lettering in "France". Not so hard on the eyes. And it might not be a bad idea to force the white to a warm off-white, to tone down the contrast, but web designers for commercial sites still hang on to that white to show they mean business.

cd Feb 12th, 2005 07:54 AM

Well, even though I like the "read" better red, now I feel left out. First I miss the party last night, and now I'm different.

Fodorite018 Feb 12th, 2005 07:55 AM

I noticed the Hot Topic area on the main page. Somehow I have a feeling that it will be filled with Portland/OR Coast threads soon, lol!

Clifton Feb 12th, 2005 09:25 AM

Ok, you know... a little time has passed and I thought I liked it. It matched the book covers. But after sitting and reading through some threads, It's starting to get to me. I get halfway through a sentence and my eyes go vwooop, right up to the upper left hand corner. The black blob never escapes your view.

Maybe it's to reduce the average sitting time on these boards? Kind of like how fast food joints intentionally install uncomfortable furniture and keep the temps at zero degrees in order to get people to eat and leave as quick as possible?
