Fodors: How much longer??

These system problems, or upgrades, or whatever the heck they are are getting old.. Most of the time I either can't access this site at all, or I can't log in, or I can log in but not post. Now today it's kicking me out of the forum section right in the middle of reading message threads.

Whether they're hosting problems or programming problems, I hope you get them sorted out soon.

LilMsFoodie Jan 17th, 2005 04:12 PM

Is it Fodors. I have none of the problems you mention. LMF

Scarlett Jan 17th, 2005 04:17 PM

I have not had a single problem this evening. It is zipping along for me.

pilgrim Jan 17th, 2005 04:22 PM

I couldn't get access for 45 minutes Saturday. I thought it was just my server.

GoTravel Jan 17th, 2005 04:38 PM

I've been having problems for days also.

Things will be going along well then WHAMMO!

Tons of problems over the last several days. Lots of apperances by that little blue umbrella - sometimes multiple times on the same page. Can't post, posts appear and disappear. And then I was getting no US board - only euro posts on both euro and US boards (had to restart the computer for that one).

Just assumed it was non-business as normal.

Budman Jan 17th, 2005 05:13 PM

I really haven't had any problems over the past few days. When the blue umbrella pops up, I just hit the "refresh" button. ((b))

Patrick Jan 17th, 2005 05:13 PM

I'm on here a LOT as most of you can tell. I haven't had a single one of the problems you mention except that every now and then when I click on a post, I get that umbrella sign. I click again and the post comes up. No biggie. I'd suspect it must be your server, not Fodors.

Scarlett Jan 17th, 2005 05:17 PM

OK, why am I not getting an umbrella!?
Is it that Troll, did she it?
Someone on Other Topics was complaining about the "format" ..

Clifton Jan 17th, 2005 07:07 PM

I've gotten a few server errors, a few umbrellas but no triple 7's on the payline yet. By the way, a server error is on the Fodors side. Most of us are on PCs, not servers (servers act as hosts for applications that "serve" a number of users across a network, hence the name). Geek trivia, can't help myself.

Sabrina Jan 17th, 2005 07:09 PM

I've had no problem.

LoveItaly Jan 17th, 2005 08:04 PM

I have had problems! I was hoping after the "maintenance" that problems would be eliminated, but I have still had problems. Yes, that blue umbrella pops up from time to time.

cd Jan 18th, 2005 04:31 AM

I get the blue umbrella at times, but as Patrick said, I just re-click and it's gone.

Anonymous Jan 18th, 2005 05:12 AM

I've had a few umbrellas or slightly slowed loads, but that's all. Have you tried clearing your cache?

ddcnga Jan 18th, 2005 05:22 AM

From a "techie's" point of view this looks like a problem on the Fodor's side, not the user's side.

I've had on and off problems for a week or so and figured they were having server issues at Fodor. It may be their server, code, etc.

Perhaps they should look into going with a PHP board instead of html/java based. It would be MUCH faster loading and posting.

It may be their server, code, etc. Clearing the cache probably won't help with any of those problems. They may need more bandwidth, as well. I've already tried to post this twice and it timed out. I have to hit my 'back' button to get back to the post, in order not to lose the entire post and try to repost.

I had many (old) problems yesterday, including having loooong posts disappear into thin cyberspace. Today things seem to be better, but it seemed things were worse for me after the weekend "maintenance."

wliwl Jan 18th, 2005 06:44 AM

I never have problems on here...fortunately!

Keith Jan 18th, 2005 08:58 AM

I find this site to be slow responding over half the time.

There have been several times in the last week where I haven't been able to get a response at all, or I get a message from the Fodor's server that they cann't display the page.

I forgot to mention...

That is from more than one computer and more then one ISP and speed of connection.

jor Jan 18th, 2005 09:07 AM

tymcoi, I think your itinerary for Italy sounds OK but I wouldn't spend three days in Naples. Spend a little more of that time in Rome.

Have fun.

jor Jan 18th, 2005 09:09 AM

I haven't experienced any problems lately.

jor Jan 18th, 2005 09:14 AM

Jennifer,

I really loved our special weekend together. email me back if you have any suspicion what so ever that your husband has found out or is asking too many questions.

XXX kisses

I'd say that's about to change.... :)

ddcnga Jan 18th, 2005 09:23 AM

Guess Jor is in for a wealth of problems, fun, or something!

Damn that cut and paste. Sometimes it just does not work out the way we expect it!

DD

jor Jan 19th, 2005 07:33 AM

I can't believe an email can get on a fodors thread. I hope Jennifer's husband isn't a fodorite!

ddcnga Jan 19th, 2005 07:57 AM

Me too, jor, lest you be looking for warmer climates!

slipperblue Jan 19th, 2005 08:55 AM

Count me in as someone who's had problems and keeps getting error messages when on Fodors. I don't have that problem when I'm on other sites.

FainaAgain Jan 26th, 2005 01:07 PM

For the last 2 hours I am getting blue umbrellas or the forum goes haywire: several posts or forums at once!

Al_LaCarte Jan 26th, 2005 01:11 PM

Me, too. And I've been trying from two different systems.

cmcfong Jan 26th, 2005 01:16 PM

Ditto. And it has been going on for over two weeks.

GoTravel Jan 26th, 2005 02:38 PM

Still having problems.

LoveItaly Jan 26th, 2005 03:03 PM

Well, since we are all confessing, I have had nothing but problems these last hours until about 30 minutes ago.

mikemo Jan 26th, 2005 03:07 PM

The wireless in SMdA and turbocharged SBC dsl at SO's in Dallas is problem free so far. Orders of magnitude better than E/L dialup cancelled after moving in Dec.

FainaAgain Jan 26th, 2005 03:11 PM

Mikemo? English, please :)

mikemo Jan 26th, 2005 03:55 PM

FA,
The broadband wireless i/n access in San Miguel de Allende, MX and the fast upgraded SBC DSL in Dallas are problem free to date and way better than the Earthlink dial up I had before selling my house in Dallas last month.

Tandoori_Girl Jan 26th, 2005 04:22 PM

I have cable modem going into my imac and a wireless router for my powerbook. The wireless gets a little iffy sometimes so I've ordered an airport express that plugs into any outlet in my house extending my wireless signal. I'm sooooo excited and can't wait to get it, anyday now. It will also broadcast my itunes through my stereo -- now is that cool, or what?

FainaAgain Jan 26th, 2005 07:36 PM

I am posting from home now, I have Earthlink dial-up. No problem.

At work I have cable with all fancy trimmings, had problems earlier today.

Go figure!

Scarlett Jan 26th, 2005 07:42 PM

Tandoori Girl, I have very little understanding of what you said, but YES, it does sound cool :D

Keith Jan 27th, 2005 05:05 AM

Lots of blue umbrellas with "unable to display the page you requested" this morning and some connection refused.

Keith
