some other fodorites were discussing this on this thread http://tinyurl.com/r8ssu
|
I just listened to a News and Notes program on WABE FM (national public radio local affiliate in Atlanta) and a man was talking about travel deals. He directed listeners to "fo doors," with the accent on the second syllable, and said that each destination available for purchase as a trip through the site also has "real people's impressions and comments on the destination." I can't figure out what he was looking at--perhaps the trip reports on the opening page? (Glad Fodor's has finally found a use for this message board, perhaps that will insure it's longevity.)

Do photos count? She's probably too modest to say, but the Japanese Gardens here in PDX have asked Scarlett if they can include her photos in their promotional materials. Pretty cool.
|
Scarlett, congratulations! :)

My NYC 2006 guide just arrived today. The quotes on the various “word of mouth” pages are attributed to:
jdavis, sailorgirl, jdnyc (twice), DonielleP, Lillie, HowardR, D, Zooey, lisa, Cameron, ediegirl, Leila, Wendy, Meredith, Susan56, bugswife1, jeninnyc, dan 1900, NYCdreamer, BuzzyJ, tinaerrico, jfd, Nancy, and Sophie. Congrats to you who are now immortalized in print. You know what they say – publish or perish. |
Howard and bugs are there, good.
I see a glaring hole in the NYC listing, though- mclaurie. mclaurie, you are "in my book" on NYC, big time. I have every post you've done in the last several yrs. saved into one document called "Best of NYC"; I am not kidding. |
Wait a minute, are you telling me that there are no quotes from BudgetQueen, BayouGal, Jetset1, Gardyloo when it comes to Alaska? We all know the above posters are the most helpful and generous in sharing information with those of us who are planning trips to Alaska
|
Yeah, what about Degas??? and his walking tours, and the gigolo in Paris??? Nothing on what to tip the pilot? What gives? ((b))
|
Budgetqueen was very helpful in planning our shore excursions in Alaska last summer. I'm really surprised her wealth of information wasn't used. . . but we don't know how much of this board's information was incorporated into the actual text of the books, either. The writers may have taken tips from posters here and either followed up on them or verified them in some way. Then, using the quotes may have been a way to bring the text to life, as in, "see, these are real people who have been to these places." I'd be willing to bet that there's a wealth of mb-generated info in the newest versions of those books.

I'm so vain - now I will have to stop by Borders and see if I can spot my name.
Keith (whose photos have been used in a number of publications) |
Who was it that said her family teased her about her "imaginary friends".
Do imaginary friends become real when their posts are published? :-) |
Starrs, you are on a roll today! (and I really needed this online laughter. Is that considered real laughter?! ;;) )
Now Pat, who is more kind and helpful than you?! |
BayouGal, I think you inserted "Flirting Face" instead of "Laughing Face". At least it LOOKS like batting eyelashes on this Southern computer! :-)
|
<read with a Scarlett O'Hara drawl>
Sweet potato pie, us Southern gals flirt with everyone. Why, I was certain a fellow Southerner knew that. Starrs, I like that one better, OKAY?! :) |
I'm vain as well. :-)
I'm in the current Greece and quoted twice in the current France. I guess I go to France too much. :-D |
Just in case anyone did happen to make a mistake, would it make them feel any better to know that I did actually use flirting face the other day when I meant to use laughing face? :D
|
CAPH, in PERSON or on this board? :-)
That's a dangerous slip-up to make out there "in the real world". Congrats to your hubby and his great news! |
What, this isn't the real world?! ;-)
Thanks, Starrsville!:) |
I've been told by maw & FLmom in another threat that I've been quoted in the 2006 Fodor's Arizona guidebook under the Grand Canyon. My library has it on order and I've already requested it. :-d

LoL, CAPH52! Thanks! But I really did it on purpose . . . not to be flirty, but because I think it's cuter. I get sick of using the winking and smiley face emoticons (or whatever they're called.) I don't care if I flirt when I'm not supposed to . . . I also occasionally hack and spit when I think no one is looking! ;;)
