Really glad it worked out well for you. Occasionally people have complained of noise from garbage trucks there. I assume you weren't disturbed? Did the flamenco live up to your expectations?

No garbage noise. Our room was on the 10th floor and while you could hear a faint NYC soundtrack (sirens etc) we were so glad not to be on the main avenues. The room and hotel was quiet. We also had a late afternoon snack in the adjacent Italian restaurante Abbocato and liked it.

I enjoyed Flamenco Hoy very much. The only letdown was the absence of Pastora Galvan one of the biggest dance stars today, who it seems was ill. Also not present due to illness was the creator of the show, cinematographer Carlos Saura, now in his 80s. Bummer!

I must admit though I am a retired flamenco dancer and I know not every one will like what is happeneing in flamenco today (in this show or in any other up to date show) This was not the typicall flamenco show that many have in their minds from the past. The days of huge companies with lively colors etc are gone. It is much more somber and experimental now. I did though think the company was highly skilled and even my non dancer hubby said he could really tell the difference in the caliber of the artists. Of note the 3 singers were extraordinary as was the guitarist Antonio Rey. Chano Dominguez is a fantastic pianist that was able to naturally weave flamenco "palos" into jazz rhythms such as blues. This was done so well and so naturally I felt it was a show in itself. (And I am not a musician.)Too many artists try to force the flamenco/jazz fusion and it is not always a natural transition. Thankfully this was not the case here.
The rest of the show was excellent with a couple of special treats as far as the dancing though it got slammed by the Times as "having too much ballet" I thoroughly enjoyed it.

To get a feeling for the show I recommend the videos of Carlos Saura...especelially "Flamenco" and "Sevillanas"
