Rubio's is the best for fish tacos. I love them there. Try the fish tacos espcial (?) not too sure of spelling but they have guacomole in them are so good. I don't care for Wahoo's fish tacos very much.There are Rubios all over Orange County and I am sure you can find one in Anaheim. For someone who is not a real fish lover,they are the best. They use corn tortillas and are very good. I go to one near my work for lunch everyday.I am hooked on them.
By the way avoid Stanton and go to the block at orange. More things to do there after you have your fish tacos.

I love Rubios fish tacos!! I was craving them, since I'm now living in France, but found an excellent recipe on www.epicurious.com so now I make my own -- and the are just as good!

Going to CA on Monday for a nice, long vacation. I've had great fish tacos, made with grilled Mahi Mahi in Traverse City, MI.

I am dying to try them in CA. Went to Rubios.com and found their menu and have their locations all set (along with a printout of this thread!).

When I looked at their menu, they list 2 fish tacos. One says that it is fried Pollok. The other one doesn't mention type/preperation of fish. Would rather have the grilled Mahi Mahi version, I think.

Any comments?

I think there are 4 basic kinds of at Rubio's (listed under tacos, fish tacos, and healthmex). The grilled mahi mahi is the one I like to get, mostly because I'm not that fond of fried seafood. The 'original' is the fried one and the 'especial' is the same as the original except with extras like guacamole, cheese, etc. The 'healthmex' can be ordered with grilled mahi mahi - the sauce is different and no guac or cheese, so it's the lower fat/calorie version of the grilled mahi mahi. While Rubio's and Wahoo's are okay for fish tacos, the ONLY place to get the real deal is the small "hole in the wall" family owned (Mexican, btw) place. You don't need the sour cream, the cabbage, or anything else to make them taste good - if they've been made right from the beginning.

I know of just a place in Orange County, and will be willing to share the location, but the cook only makes fish tacos on Fridays. (And only by request)

Once you go to the "hole in a wall" Mexican restaurant, you'll NEVER go back to a chain!

I agree with Chele that the best Mexican food comes from small family owned restaurants.
