Well, Cafe Portofino sounds like what we need...I have a very picky husband, who doesn't like much variety in food and doesn't like fish & seafood (but does like beef & chicken & pasta & loves salad). But he's great to travel with, because he never minds taking me anywhere I like (I'm a fish and seafood nut). But I like places where he can eat something good, too...Any suggestions--I've perused this site, and have taken notes, but anything that would be "perfect" for us, I'd like to know about..

Had my birthday dinner at "Beach House" last month. Best restaurant choice of the week. Book early and try to get a table for the sunset. We didn't buy the house picture but took several with our own camera and had lots of help from nearby tables. Food and service were top notch. We also enjoyed Roy's and Tidepools. Both on the spendy side but worth it. My only complaint with Roy's is the setting. (Shopping mall with not much ambiance). For a quick lunch bite, check out Puka Dog in the same Poipu Village Mall as Roy's. I'm not usually into hot dogs, but the Puka Dog was GREAT!

We were in Kauai over the summer. This was our third trip there. Rent a car see the whole island. so many beautiful beaches and scenery. Another good restraunt is Roys in Po'ipu. The restaurant at the Kauai coast is really good. The whole family loves the choclate souffle. Happy Anniversary. Watch a sunset from the North shore.

j12, are you going to post your trip report and photos? Love to see them as I am staying at the kauai coast resort in September. How was the weather when you were there?

I was born and raised on the island of Kauai..I now live in Colorado, but going back this august to get married :) A great restaurant is Keoki's Paradise in Poipu....the food is awesome and the atmosphere is very "islandy"...waterfalls, streams...beautiful polynesian decor. They have seafood, poultry, steaks. Next door is Roy's, fine dining, great food.......Tidepool's at the Hyatt is wonderful as well....and yes, the "hole in a wall noodle place" or Hamura's Saimin, is definetly a great place to eat. I went there all the time when I was a teenager after football games. Don't forget to try out some "box lunch/plate lunch" restaurants as well, you can get lots of food for a really good deal! Ask the locals, they'll guide you to some of the best places to eat!

Alohaaaa,
It may have closed but the scuttlebutt in Dec/Jaan was Jean-Marie Josselin is moving it up the road a bit towards P'ville on the makai side of the road.
This way they can get out of the strip mall view and get an ocean view.

Hopes to open in a few weeks...but remember....it's "Kauaiian Time". ;)
