Many thanks, sunbum1944. There is SO much to do in Oregon. It's really nice to have people single out some favorites. Hope to get to this one.

slud - you're welcome and soi many great thinigs to do in the area. We stayed there numerous times while my wife had business in Portland - and explored all around Welches, Zig Zag, Rhododenderon (sp) and on up to Mt. Hood.

Plenty of good places to dine also - and for a memorable dinner - the restaurant at Timberline has great views - looking "down" the Cascades - and you can see the snow capped cindercone/Mt. Jefferson in the distance and the Three Sisters by Bend - beyond that.

For something really getting off the beaten path - take the Lolo Road north from Zig Zag (becomes gravel after a while) - and check out the great views of not only Mt. Hood - from the west side - but also pristine Lost Lake. Would go back to stay at tucked away Lost Lake in a heartbeat.
