That's it, that's the showstopper. Please let this thread end here - there's just no answer to Britney!

More from Mark Twain, on travel:

Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.

"Helluva place to lose a cow" Ebenezer Bryce ...describing Bryce Canyon. It's just so true, succinct, funny and apt

Thank you so much everyone! I particularly love the Susan Sontag quote - "I haven't been everywhere but it's on my list" and the Mark Twain quotes. I am thinking of painting one on the wall in my family room - just have to find someone who is artistic.

I wish I could remember the exact words---of my favorite
Maybe by Thoreau ????
Something to the effect----a real traveler is one who goes somewhere for absolutely no reason.

starrsville Feb 8th, 2006 07:17 AM

That reminds me of my favorite T Shirt:

From the Desk of Toto -
Dear Dorothy.
Hate Oz,
Took the shoes,
Find your own way home!

"As long as you have enough money and enough time, you are never lost."

This is from my best friend, who told me this when I got lost driving in Minneapolis and started getting upset. I think he's right.

My favorites....

Pam1951 Feb 8th, 2006 10:37 AM

OBXgirl - Thanks so much for the link. That is such a cool site - and the travel quote they have in their library is not bad but I think I will spring for a custom quote

I love this thread. I printed the quotes so I can refer back to them and pass them on to travel companions!
A book full of adventure travel quotes is On The Loose by Terry and Renny Russell. It was a "must read" at my wilderness canoe camp when I was a teenager.
