Favorite repeat vacation spot?

I love to travel & explore different places, but every couple of years I just have to go back to New Orleans for a couple of days. It calls to me. There are other places I've been to more than once, but none I hanker for more than the Big Easy.

How about you? Is there a place your love to escape to over & over again even though you've already been there & done that? I'm also dreaming of a return trip to St John once my kids are old enough to appreciate it.

I love Santa Rosa Florida. It is a quite Island next to Pensacola. There is nothing to do on the island except relax, bike ride and enjoy the white sand beach. However you are minutes away from Pensacola. The island is still very quite and more for the family life. Your kids at any age would enjoy it.

The only trips I have felt compelled to repeat are San Francisco/Wine Country and New York City. Others I plan to repeat as soon as possible are Cancun and Las Vegas. I also would love to go back to San Diego. I was only there for one day, which we spent at the zoo, but I would love to stay for a whole week. Oh, yes, I forgot (duh?), I am repeating a Seattle trip this summer. I went 10 years ago with my older daughter, and am going this time with the younger ones.

carolyn Apr 27th, 2004 06:17 AM

London is my favorite place in the world. I have a long way to go to explore it all, but I'm trying. Here at home, my favorite city to visit is Charleston, SC.

GoTravel Apr 27th, 2004 06:27 AM

My favorite repeat destination is New York City. I've traveled there for work and pleasure over the years. I could honestly say I've been there at least 100 times.

I also spend a lot of time in South Florida for a number of reasons.

My flat out favorite vacation spot would be Italy. The whole shebang.

utahtea Apr 27th, 2004 06:38 AM

Over the last 32 years of marriage, DH and I have been to Yosemite National Park 27 times and Zion National Park 22 times. I guess they qualify as repeat ;)

We really love these locations. Yosemite is just 4 hours away so it's easy to get to about once a year.

Zion is an all day drive but when we our boys were young we tried to make it there for the end of our road trip vacation because it was such a beautiful setting to relax and have fun.

I find it fascinating that someone would go back to the same place year after year.
In fact, I'll be continuing my fact finding study into this phenomena in 245 mo'days.

Just spent another great weekend in SF. The weather was so nice you could see the rivets on the GG Bridge and the gull poop on Alcatraz.

It will be hard NOT to go back to NOLA again this year especially with the 49ers playing there in Sept. but Chicago calls again. (Chicago Fodorites-you are warned! :(( )

Napa/Sonoma never gets tiresome, either.

I forgot how much fun and beautiful San Diego is. After about a 12 yr hiatus, last year's trip put it back on our "to do" list.

A May return to NYC is anxiously awaited.

All the talk of DC on the 4th of July "sparks" some great memories.
A ballgame at Camden Yards is no ka oi.

I'd return to Big Cedar in October with Mrs Kal in a heartbeat.

Still on the to do list: Austin, Miami Beach, The Keys, NZ/Aussie and maybe a trip to SoAfrica with a certain Wicked Wahine for a long jog.

Life is good.
Are we a bunch o' lucky travel bums or what? >:D<

I am a repeat visitor to Las Vegas and love it every 18 mos. or so. Have repeated Disney World and plan to in the future as a couple only or with grand kids in the more distant future.

I plan to go back to Zion. 1st time was last summer, want to do it again!

Dan Apr 27th, 2004 06:51 AM

New York and South Florida for me!

LLindaC Apr 27th, 2004 07:03 AM

I just never get tired of California. There are so many different things to see, it never feels like a "repeat".We discovered magical Mendocino last month and have already booked a return trip in fall. I also could go back over and over again to the British Virgin Isles. Pure heaven.

ellen_griswold Apr 27th, 2004 07:12 AM

My favorite place includes the entire, great american west. We've done eight road trips (of 3 weeks each) and i hope to do many more! While we often repeat certain nat'l parks and cities, there are always new places to explore.

I also love the magic of nyc for a long weekend, and i never tire of repeat visits to disney world or disneyland.

(I've been to England and Scotland and do hope to return but not anytime soon...)

dln Apr 27th, 2004 07:19 AM

In nearly 20 years of marriage, we've neer missed going to a Florida Gulf of Mexico beach. Seagrove, St. Pete, Naples, Seaside--I'll take any of them! I have to get my yearly "palm tree fix."

Little_Man Apr 27th, 2004 07:23 AM

If the $ wasn't so low compared to the Euro, my favorite repeat would definitely be Europe...
As it is, for now, there are lots of different places in Mexico to explore...

abram Apr 27th, 2004 07:33 AM

We love theater weekends in New York, and try to go every year or two.

Our favorite winter vacations are for downhill skiing, and we've repeated several places in Colorado, Utah, California and Canada.

We went to Bermuda for our honeymoon and our 25th anniversary, and plan to go back for our 50th anniversary in 2020.

emd Apr 27th, 2004 07:36 AM

I go back to several places, for a couple of reasons. One, it is hard work researching and planning for a trip to a new place! I go through that whole process about twice a year, and it is fun but takes alot of time and work. So the other times I just want to go somewhere I already know, where I don't have to go through that whole "new" process.
One is the Outer Banks, oceanfront, every August for a week. Total relaxation, and every year I discover something "new" about the area with hardly any effort.
Another is Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon areas. Never tire of it, it will take a long time to hike all those trails, and I am lucky enough to have a friend who lets us use her place in the canyon.
Another is NYC. Always something different and new there, but I hardly have to plan much except for show tickets, as there is always something going on there when I get there, either a street festival or something. Just walking through the neighborhoods is great for us, as we've done most of the tourist stuff and now can just enjoy the city.
The other is Orlando. We go to other parts of Florida including the coast, but always enjoy going back to Orlando. We have started renting a house w/a pool there for a week at a time and it is becoming a tradition also. We don't go to the theme parks as much anymore, we are discovering alot of other things to do in that area, and just hanging by the pool is great when the weather at home outside of DC is ugly and cold.

ChristieP Apr 27th, 2004 08:40 AM

My husband and I seem to be going back to Vegas about once a year. Our third trip will be next month.

We also love Ireland. The people, the pubs, the horses (me), the rugby (him), and the sheer beauty of the place just keep bringing us back.

travleis Apr 27th, 2004 08:46 AM

Never get tired of:
NYC

Once every 2-3 years is perfect:
Charleston
Chicago
Scottsdale
Sedona
Vermont
Natucket/MV

Don't care if I never visit again:
New Orleans
Miami
Orlando
Houston
Albuquerque
Salt lake City
Detroit

JeanH Apr 27th, 2004 09:43 AM

We make a yearly trip to Key West. Just love wandering those streets and enjoying the island vibe without the hassle of heading further away. Also try to get to New Orleans every couple of years.

But, our hearts have been captured by Belize, specifically San Pedro and Placencia. Those two places are starting to 'require' twice a year trips, with plans for longer stays in a few years.

We do try and go somewhere 'new' every year as well. Trying to decide between Panama and some of the smaller Caribbean islands for next winter. Jean

travelinwifey Apr 27th, 2004 10:07 AM

The UK, Hawaii, New Orleans, San Diego, Miami, Disney

karens Apr 27th, 2004 12:09 PM

We try to check out someplace new most of the time, but we've returned to:

Colorado
Cape Cod
Sanibel
Grand Canyon
Portland, OR

ballet1288 Apr 27th, 2004 12:27 PM

Love Bald Head Island off the coast of North Carolina - beautiful, very private and so relaxing!!

questionmotives Apr 27th, 2004 12:55 PM

Yosemite NP and Moab, Utah. If I could afford it, the list would include New York City, London and Paris.

_Linda_ Apr 27th, 2004 01:14 PM

Las Vegas (need to get a new one)
Houston
San Antonio

Jayne11159 Apr 27th, 2004 01:39 PM

We've gone to Cashiers, NC almost every summer for 15 years (did the same thing as a child). We deviated a few times and went to Blowing Rock. NC is not so much a vacation as it is an escape for Floridians during the long hot summers and we never tire of the beauty.

Much less repeated but no less enjoyed destinations include SF, Charleston and Boston.

I would love to visit Ireland again.
Unforunately (or fortunately depending how you look at it) my husband hates eating leftovers AND duplicating vacations. His theory is that the world has too much variety to go to the same place twice!

highbay Apr 27th, 2004 01:43 PM

We spend the month of May in the Florida Keys, and we try to make a long weekend trip once a year to New Orleans. Another repeat favorite is Boston.

jewelhawg Apr 27th, 2004 01:47 PM

Without a doubt, I keep going back to the Canadian Rockies. You fly into Calgary and drive 2 hours to Banff. After a stay in Banff, head to Lake Louise then drive The Icefields Parkway to Jasper. I visited several years ago via a company trip. I've returned every year since and have taken new friends or family each year. None have been disappointed. I've been in June and in September/October. Both are equally beautiful.

Syv Apr 27th, 2004 01:49 PM

The US Southwest - Arizona / southern Utah area's national parks (Zion, Bryce, etc.)

Eventually definitely want to get back to cover Switzerland Austria in more depth, also Colorado, Montana areas are fav's.

Have also repeated Canada Maritimes - east coast provinces including Newfoundland, & enjoy the drive from Canada to/from South Carolina. Also plan to repeat Acadia NP in Maine.

salgal Apr 27th, 2004 03:03 PM

Repeated NEw York and Kauai.

Smokyboy Apr 27th, 2004 03:16 PM

Right now the place for me would be The Great Smokies. (It helps that I have a vacation home not far from the national park). I first went there when I was a newborn. I was raised by my grandparents and they had a gas station in Cherokee, NC and we traveled many a road in the Great Smokies. I will never tire of the mountains there! Eventually, having been to San Francisco/area 2 years ago for the first time, I could return there again and again and... Can't wait to go back.

GoTravel Apr 27th, 2004 03:25 PM

highbay, have you always stayed a month in Key West or did the 28 day rental thing stretch out your keys stay? Just curious.

nettie77 Apr 27th, 2004 03:30 PM

Hawaii, Hawaii, and Hawaii....just can't get enough! I also enjoy visiting Sicily, often.

LN Apr 27th, 2004 04:00 PM

I also love to travel and get back to some places a little quicker than others, generally because of the cost.

Southwest Gulf coast of Florida - I absolutely am addicted to it a couple times a year.

The Pocono Mts in Pa - quick and easy to get to for a relaxing time.

Paris, Rome, London and Ireland - been twice and will be happy to go again.

San Fran to San Diego - loved the wine country but not the cities.

New York City - absolutely love it!

Zion natl Park - awesome - like a huge cathedral - I always enjoy it.

actually the more I write the more I see that I can go back to most everywhere I've been (except certain big cities) many times.

highbay Apr 27th, 2004 04:50 PM

GoTravel:
We actually used to own a second home down there. We felt obligated to check on things once a month. Had great neighbors, but I could never see asking them to hang around the house for repair men that keep "island time". We sold the house three years ago, and have been renting the same home since. It is only 3 blocks from our former home, and yes, the 28 day rule does influence the amount of time we spend down there. We take our 22' SportCat down and have a blast fishing and diving instead of waiting for repair men!

Linda0515 Apr 27th, 2004 05:13 PM

This will sound prosaic, but the one place we keep returning to is the Jersey Shore. specifically Ocean City NJ. We spent many vacations there when the children were babies--it's cheap (we live in nearby Penna. so we can drive there in a few hours), very walkable, and with plenty of things for the kids to do. While we now take a more exotic vacation every year, and love them all, we still head to Ocean City every year too. It's so nice and relaxing to arrive and know where the best pizza is, where the best ice cream is, what the day's routine will be.

kimmer1850 Apr 28th, 2004 09:23 PM

Gotta say New Orleans. I try to go at least twice a year to get my Funky Butt fix. No truly...it's the name of a bar on Rampart Street. Some of the best live blues can be found there.
I'm also about to take my 2nd trip to San Francisco. Was there almost 2 years ago and fell in love with that city.

Now I'm taking my best friend for a girls only week-end. She recently broke up with her boyfriend and my fiance is going to Myrtle Beach for bike week. LOOK OUT SAN FRANCISCO HER WE COME!!!!

I also enjoy Disneyworld. I'm a big kid at heart.

BuffaloGirl Apr 29th, 2004 04:11 AM

Sanibel Island. I feel like I've dropped a load of bricks off my back the minute I arrive! Didn't go this year for the 1st time in years :-(

iamq May 3rd, 2004 10:21 AM

myst May 3rd, 2004 10:35 AM
