Kate's bookstore is in Cambridge. The one on Newbury St.(not related, another name)
Brattle books on West Street, Boston. Harvard books on Mass Ave, Cambridge has a remainder basement. Thanks, Mimi |
Oh Sistahlo that recipe sounds excellent..putting it on my list ! Having family over on Sunday and might have my daughter try your recipe for a change - or some of your style figs and some of mine!
Here is how I do it: Take fresh figs, snip off the end, and I put a small cut into them - not quite in half, just a slit and put in the marscapone - then I wrap a piece of proscuitto around it (agree with sistahlou here, you have to find excellent proscuitto, trim a bit if needed) - you end up wrapping several times, then I put a toothpick through it (which I've let soak in water for a few minutes so it avoids burning on grill) - then I put some rosemary olive oil on with a pastry brush (either buy or make your own by just putting fresh rosemary in exc olive oil in a jar - many uses!) - Then I put on the grill, a few minutes on each side - and serve as either an appetizer or along side the main course. I've also sliced the figs in half, dab some marscapone on top, put it back together and wrap same way. |
THANKS, escargot! That's definitely on the menu for Saturday night! :)

now you really have me in the mood for figs too -
hope you and your guests enjoy! |
Trident Booksellers on Newbury is fantastic. I love it there. Between Hereford and Mass Ave.
Brattle is so overwhelming to me, but it's located on West Street in the Ladder District, in between Washington and Tremont Streets. Also on Newbury is Victor Hugo, although I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't been to their new space - it's been a couple years since I visited. As for your question about the mystery genre bookstore on Newbury, yes, I believe it is. From what I remember, it's around Fairfield maybe? In Cambridge, the Coop is always good, and I also love the travel book shop which just relocated recently. There's a couple more down Mass Ave towards Grafton Street too that I've popped into a few times. |
sorry but Victor Hugo is gone
|
It is? When did it close? The last time I was there was probably 2yrs ago when it was moving a few doors down..
=( |
Alas, there are no fresh figs in the hood, so I looked up recipes on food network and now I have a hundred to try......starting with the stuffed and grilled jenre! Thanks escargot!
|
Boston Gal: I think Victor Hugo closed about 2 yrs ago - but they still have an online store - try avenuevictorhugobooks.com
sistahlou: if you find some amazing fig recipe you'll have to share, just think of a travel related post, the traveling fig recipes thread.... |
I always like browsing at "Buck-a-Book" ... it's been a few years, don't know if those shops are still around.
|
Sorry trvelene to once again bring up figs, but---- escargot, if you have a Big Y Grocer near you, I just picked up a flat of 20 gorgous beauties for $5.95! And parma is on sale too! I will let you know if I make anything interesting. I did pick up some marcepone, as I've never had that with figs! Mahalo
