mmmm.....foie gras...just had some the other night at home, sliced on toasted baguette with a sprinkle of fluer de sel.

btw, ducks and geese have a hard esophagus in which the tube is placed. It is not painful or uncomfortable for them. In seattle they round up geese and gas them due to over population and sanitary reasons. what a waste of could be foie! ;)

Who would have thought there would be so many people interested in the fate of foie gras and have so much information about the poor critters who provide it
I think the whole post is pretty hysterical - I dont think I have ever tried foie gras and now its going to be gone before I ever have a chance.

I just tried to watch a "force-feeding" on petatv.com. I'm not a vegetarian nor a member of PETA but I don't think I'll be able to eat foie gras anymore! I couldn't even finish the film. It's in the Video Archives section under "F". Whew...

and I thought I needed more hobbies...

You're right, bardo1. - It does sound somewhat bizarre, doesn't it? LOL
I was doing some research for a foodie article I'm writing, and I came across this atrocity. So, of course, I immediately had to do a search on Fodor's to see what others had to say about it, thereby finding this thread...

beachbum,
Is is possible that Maisn De La France has infiltrated the Oregon Legislature to encourage Foie Gras lovers to visit France to satisfy their love of Goose Liver? It's either that or the AFLAC Goose (hiding under the guise of "Duck") to discover this delicacy. I wouldn't put it pass the French however.

Snails' innards are usually cleansed by starving the little guys for at least 3 days.
