Thanks for the information. I would love to see the parade in person someday.
|
Just in case anyone else wants to take a look, I had to change the link for the story with photos. Thanks for the nice comments.

Enjoyed your little report and pics very much. My daughter and I "watch" the parade together every year... via the phone. :) Probably not as much fun as being there, but it works for us. :)
Happy new year to you and Mrs. Maitai!. |
Happy New Year Sarge. Thanks!

Maitaitom, really enjoyed your Rose Parade report and excellent photos. Maybe we'll get there someday soon. We really love SoCal, but at that time of year we always seem to be traveling someplace else (e.g. this year in Paris). Your report whets our appetite to aim for the Rose Parade. Thanks again for the report!

Dang, I am late to the party! Hardly ever go to the US forum these days.
Anyway, short of saying you are a better photographer, your camera is better then mine :) And you stayed till the occupiers, I saw them in the news when I got home. Thanks for sharing your photos and your house! |
Your pre-parade photos are so interesting and beautiful. I love the one with the Marines. Your blog captures the essence of the day at the parade.
You can also can get tics to the stands on the Wrigley Mansion's grounds, we used to use the bathrooms indoors there. |
Topping. Good memories. Also a reminder to watch it this year.
|
Looks like it will be a beautiful day tomorrow for the parade, which pleases locals because it drives our property values up.
((H)) |
Property values go up just for a day? :-p

Happy New Year to the Fodorites!
We have a torch parade on the mountain tonight and fireworks all over the place. It's extremely cold here in Park City.. Love the Rose Parade. Being there in person just can't be beat. Smell those flowers. Great people watching too. :-) |
Missing the parade tomorrow, but a buddy of mine had an extra ticket for Wisconsin-Stanford game, so I'll be at the game.
((H)) |
Have fun and On Wisconsin!
|
Sorry about your Badgers Susan. Great day at the Rose Bowl. A lot of red. This was my 33rd Rose Bowl, and it set the record for being the coldest I have ever been at a game there. When I get a chance I will write a little trip report since I brought my camera this year.

"My dad went to UW. Washington-Wisconsin and Washington-Minnesota in 1960 and 1961 were the first of many Rose Bowls I attended. I remember Bob Schloredt, the Huskies' QB who was blind in one eye and won two Rose Bowl MVPs."
Your dad probably played with my uncle Roy (center) as I am pretty sure he went to those two Rose Bowl games. Great game as this household was cheering for Stanford. And, the weather proved clear though definitely a bit chilly for SoCal blood. |
My dad only attended UW, didn't played there. I was also cheering for Stanford, although in the 4th quarter I was just rooting for a quick end because I was freezing. Yes, very cold for we wimpy Southern Californians, but as usual, there is nothing like actually being at the Rose Bowl Game.

Vin Scully (Hall Of Fame voice of the Dodgers) as Rose Parade Grand Marshal in 2014. Great choice (albeit about 40 years late).
I'll be there! ((H)) |
My husband was quite a Dodger fan until the steroid saga kind of soured baseball for him. But you're right, Vin Scully was definitely a class act.
Your link is not working for me, by the way. |

Thanks for sharing your photos Tom! The Rose Parade is a yearly event in our house; both my parents marched with PHS back in the 70's and my cousin was on the rose court in 2011. Seeing your pictures has got me looking forward to it again this year!
For anyone who is reading this but has never been, it is definitely a MUST SEE! Seeing it in person is nothing like seeing it on TV and I am sure Tom will agree that once you've watched it in person the TV wont do it justice again. The bleachers are great seats for the parade but if you can't get tickets don't be discouraged! We bring our trailer and stay in the Park & Ride right before the bridge near PHS. It's at the end of the parade route but you get to sleep in a bit (parade reaches that end around 9:30/10) and you are literally seated on the street; you have to angel your feet behind the lines as to not trip any of the marching bands. I personally love these seats because you get to high five the band directors, catch roses from the cheerleaders and be in the middle of the action. We also have a big family and ensure we're the loudest, craziest bunch at the end of the parade. I'm actually getting so excited just thinking about it! Hopefully Michigan will be in the Rose Bowl this year then it'll really be a party! Sorry for rambling! Thanks again for sharing your pictures with us...you can see it simply took me down memory lane! |
