I have to ask this as an "anti-Disney" person who just returned from a conference there (confirming my beliefs, BTW)...why would two adults willingly choose Disney as a vacation destination ?

Well, SanParis, I know what you mean in some ways. However, if you can go at really low season, it can be fun.No lines, good weather, etc can make a bit of the kid in you come out. The Wine fest was great because we got to talk to many owners and winemakers and then visited them in CA. There is a book by Birnbaum about doing Disney without kids, which helps a bit. Movies on Canada, France, China and California (soarin) are enjoyable, but certainly don't replace visiting those countries. Actually, given the price of tickets, food and extras, it's probably better to visit Europe instead of EPCOT, LOL!

I have told people that I work with, that are big Disney fanatics, that if they will set aside the money they will spend at Disney for 5 days, that I can send them to Europe for 2 weeks. I can understand an event such as Winefest (I'm a bit of a wino myself) but to just go...? I just don't get it.

When we went to EPCOT, we made a game of our goal to dine at every single country throughout the day. We began with crepes for breakfast in "France" and ended with dessert in "Italy". We took portable food with us to munch on while standing in the 40-minute lines of some of the rides. Unless your metabolism is high, I don't recommend you attempt to repeat our feat.

I am the child of 2 anti-Disney parents who married a Disney fanatic. I can see both sides of things - sometimes Disney feels like pre-packaged memories. On the other hand, they're incredibly well executed pre-packaged memories. The parks are clean, the people are nice, and it's just a ton of fun. Also, we generally stay in a value resort for about $75/ night for 4, the tickets work out to $30 - $50 a day per person and there are always ways to stretch the food dollar. While at the parks, we don't have to pay for parking and we don't have to rent a car. It's really not as expensive as people make it out to be. We use the tourguidemike.com touring plans and never wait more than 20 minutes for an attraction - even during peak season. We've gone with & without kids - it's all good. Last year we flew from Colorado to Florida for $127 each.

I've been to Europe and love it - I want to go back. There's no real reason Disney and (name the destination of your choice) have to be at odds. Do as much as you can whenever you can and be happy!
