Hands down from me. If I'm on vacation, the last thing I want to do is put on pantyhose. Black pants and a better top is about as fancy as I want to get, so I don't go to better dress restaurants.

Oh Jeeez !! If putting on Pantyhose was part of my getting dressed, I would stay home!
These days, getting dressed can mean a pants suit, a nice pair of trousers with a pretty top or even a long dress or skirt.
The idea is a good one, I will raise my hand if it means I don't have to sit in front of or down wind from one of those patrons of the arts that Patrick mentioned:)

It's better to just dress nicely all day. Who has time to go back to their room/apartment and change? It's just a waste of time! On a typical weekend day I leave my apartment at 11 AM and don't return until 11 PM or after.

Well, my hand is UP, too! (we obviously think alike Scarlett, lol!)

Its funny because I was *just* thinking this week how I wished people dressed up nowadays because I want to buy a really nice evening gown and wear it in public *somewhere* without looking stupid. And the only place I could think of was the....THEATER! LOL!

I don't care how long it takes me to get ready, once in awhile it would be nice to be a "belle of the ball." I get so sick of "nice casual." I can do that everday, I want to wear something GLAMOROUS! :)

I too have been making reservtions and hearing 'nice-casual' and the one that gets me ... 'business attire'. That would sorta depend on the type of business you are in wouldn't it? Butcher, oyster shucker, topless waitress (oh tacky tacky me, but I couldn't resist it).

I was at the San Francisco Ballet a few weeks ago, black pants, black top and black jacket. Lots and lots of well dressed dowengers, sans husbands, dressed to perfection, but not overdressed. Several young women were wearing crummy jeans and flip flops (I kid you not). Comfortable - probably, slobs - definitely.

Bring back little white cotton gloves. As a child, my mother wouldn't let me go anywhere 'nice' without them. How grown up and special they made me feel.

I'm with Suzanne. "Nicer" clothes are just as "comfortable" as casual, even sloppy, attire. I don't mind pantyhose anymore, either, since I've finally figured out that "control top" means "too tight" (and doesn't control anything, anyway).

My wife and I have tickets for "Cabaret" at Studio 54 in July. Do people for the most part dress up for that show, or is it a little more casual due to the venue? I read LoisL's comment about noticing someone in jeans during a performance there, and wondered if that was the exception or the norm.

At a minimum, I'd recommend Black denim.

We attended "Cabaret" in April. Usual mix of very casual and those more dressed up. The venue is not fancy (sort of like cocktail tables spread about in a warehouse), and considering the costumes...
