Does anyone know of a Manhattan hotel with in-room working fireplaces?

I've googled and found a few. Among them are the Royalton and some rooms at the Waldorf. I might consider either of those options but I was looking for other possibilities.

Does anyone know of a moderately priced hotel (no more than $500 a night) that has working fireplaces?

My preference is midtown, SOHO or the West Village.

Thanks..

"Underscoring its unique position as Manhattan’s most luxurious home-away-from-home residential-style escape, as well as its magnificent suites and only hotel in New York with wood-burning fireplaces, the five-star Lowell Hotel on New York’s tony Upper East Side is ushering in winter with its Hearth and Home package.

Available January 1 through March 31, 2008, Hearth and Home guests can choose to stay in one of the Lowell’s most celebrated suites, including the One-Bedroom Suite ($1,250), deluxe one-bedroom suite ($1,450), two-bedroom suite ($2,450) or one of the Lowell’s Specialty Suites ($2,050). Other unique package elements include continental breakfast for two daily, having the Lowell’s discreet bellman personally light guests’ fireplace twice during their stay; a fireplace menu offering a selection of different scents for guests to choose; an Ipod Docking Station for visitor’s personal IPod or one that that can be borrowed from the hotel; a sumptuous torchon of foie gras served with an orange spiced marmalade and brioche; and a bottle of Muscat de Beaumes de Venise."

Moderately priced?

No.

The Royalton has a room in the $550 range. It sounds like that's about as moderate as I'm likely to find.

Ryan, those penthouses at the Royalton look pretty wonderful. I assume it is a gas fireplace (The Lowell proudly boasts the ONLY wood burning ones), but at $500 for a Royalton Penthouse -- that sounds like an awfully good deal. At least I assume those are the only rooms with the fireplaces there.

Maybe the Inn on Irving Place, but some rooms are over $500 there. And verify that. I'm not sure if any of the fireplaces there actually work.

We were fortunate to stay in one of the Lowell suites a few years ago.
The fireplace is wonderful, but the high cost doesn't include wood! That set us back, at that time, about another $30.00 per "fire"!

I've seen lots of hotel rooms with fake (gas) fireplaces - and even had an apartment with a mantel and (non-working) fireplace - but never one that burned wood. I would think this is a major fire hazard that hotels would try to avoid.

I'm surprised you found any with a wood-burning fireplace.

I believe that's why the Lowell wants control of building and starting the fires.
We did not have a roaring inferno nor did we have additional wood to add when the fire ran it's course.

I went for the Loft Suite at the Royalton. Thanks for the input.
