Do you return to the same place year after year?
Do you return to the same place year after year? I have friends that go to Key West the end of every June and won't go any other place. I don't understand. Does anyone else go to the same place year after year?
Nope. We go to a different location all the time. As a result, we've been to 17 countries and every state in the continental US. We do go back to Florida fairly often and do like the Keys but I can't see Key West year after year.
If you live in a major metro area, would you eat out at the same restaurant every time you eat out?
I have friends who go to Gulf Shores, AL every year. I don't understand it either. Guess some folks like to vacation purely to relax, and nothing else. I relax when I get home from a vacation. <BR>
Yep, we go to New Orleans every year for a few days and now evidently that makes us weird. Hunh, I thought we were a fairly normal couple that just happened to find a wonderful city that we enjoy enough to visit regularly. Guess that shows how much I know.....
Cindy, no one said it made you weird. Bill is just wondering why.<BR><BR>We go back to the same places for long weekends but for our yearly long trip, we always go to a different island.
Yes and I realize the drawl backs just can't stop going back to Hawaii. My only solace is that I traveled heavily in my young adult life with months and sometimes-entire summers in Egypt, Turkey, Israel, and Europe.<BR><BR>Now as if my karmic vacations have run dry I only get two weeks so I don't want the guessing/stress that can sometimes go along with exploring. I do look for new hiking trails, rivers to kayak, beaches to snorkel in, menus to devour! I tell myself this is travel it really is just about making Hawaii a familar home away from home.<BR>
I do it on a daily basis.
Yes and no. I grew up all over Europe and the US. I love to travel, but now that I've discovered a special vacation spot in Mexico I plan to return there every other year or so, and eventually retire there. I love the place, the people, and no matter how many times my permanent residence changes (as it will), I'll have a second "home" to return to. BUT I also take trips to new locations on a semi-regular basis. I think I'll end up doing Mexico every other year, then a new national or international destination in alternate years. Best of both worlds.
Yes, we try to get to Key West at least once a year, and New Orleans about as often. That doesn't mean that we don't travel other places as well. That being said, we really need to expand our traveling and spend more time in Europe.
We return to the same California beach town for one week each summer, and to the same ski town for one week each winter. (one other week per year, we go somewhere random) Maybe we're boring. But, these are places we are very comfortable with, we know how to get around, where to eat, where to stay, etc. and we love it! They are places we'd like to live in, if we could afford to. And because we're only there one week each year, it doesn't get boring AT ALL!
XX - me too. Everyday I go to the same place day after day after day it is called home.
For bigger trips, we go to new places, especially since we're in our mid-twenties and have hardly seen anything yet. But for mini weekend trips (or cheaper trips), we tend to go to the same places, mainly in California since we live there (and are only here for a few more years). <BR><BR>It's nice to visit the same places every once in a while and relax, instead of getting lost in new places and taking a risk that a new restaurant will be good,etc..
We go to Vegas at least once a year.
We visited the same summertime/beach spot every year for more than 20 years (renting the same house for 13 of those years), until we bought a house in the area and moved there full-time a few years later. That was our summertime/get-away-from-the-city/find some cool routine, and it was important to our kids...BUT we also did other travel during those years, with the kids and without. To be honest, I got kind of antsy and at times resented returning to the same spot, when it seemed like there was so much else to explore. Who knew I'd end up living in the spot full-time - and loving it!
Yup. We've been to Vegas for the past 4 yrs in a row. Looks like our annual destination, and we are not big gamblers.
I think migrating birds do this.
We spend a month in the Florida Keys (May) and we also go to New Orleans at least once a year. But we do include other destinations throughout the year to make our vacations interesting.
Wow. Take me @ home said exactly what I was going to say. I have a secret hide out in mexico that I return to every year. Great people, great place. I wonder if we are going to the same place? I also go to Vegas every year. But I take two other trips too and always make them different. I fall in love with places and want to keep going back. I would love to add NYC to my annual trip list, but there are limits on my time off. Alas.
Two things every year:<BR><BR>1. Mardi Gras in New Orleans<BR><BR>2. A weekend in Salem, Mass. during Haunted Halloween month of October
I think a mixture is ideal. Therea re so many places in the world that look and sound amazing, and I really yearn to visit, that I would really feel I was missing out by going to the same place time after time. On the other hand, it is great to have a few special places that you know you love and feel 'at home' in - in a way, I look forward more to visits to these places because the uncertainty that you may be disappointed is removed.
Yep, we go to Seaside Florida in May every year. My six year old and mother both love it and I have had a hard time finding some place else to replace it. Its easy and relaxing, something hard to come by when traveling with children.
The beach on Long Island Sound (CT side), but I go elsehwere each year too.
We go to Palm Springs for a long weekend every year from San Diego, but this spring we are going to Scottsdale for a full week instead.
Las Vegas and Montreal are cities that we do tend to go to each year, but in addition to those are the big trips to unexplored cities. This year hopefully will be to San Miguel de Allende in Mexico. or Florence Italy:)
Yes. I have spent anywhere from a long weekend to two months at the same beach in CA for the past 42 years. I go other places to tour, but for a real vacation, it's the beach for me
I have four places I return to faithfully every year. Tampa & Vegas to visit my folks, the Hotel Hershey, in Hershey every spring (my youngest loves the park and we love this first class hotel)and no matter how hard I try I can't help going at least once every summer to the Jersey Shore. I grew up going to Jersey beaches every year. <BR><BR>As an adult after seeing the beautiful crystal clear water in the USVI I thought I could never go back to the Jersey Beaches, but it's like going home I guess. <BR><BR>Someday I will travel the world (hopefully)but for now, I need to do the family thing.
Yes, we go to Nantucket every summer, but it isn't the only place we go. We normally take about 4 trips per year, and Nantucket is always one of them. We get to do our exploring on the other 3 trips. The other places we've been to several times are Disneyworld/Orlando (kids you know) Italy, Napa (husband who is a wine afficianado)and Bermuda (very beautiful and close).<BR><BR>Why do we go to Nantucket every year? It's so beautiful, we have friends who we get together with and only get to see when we rendevous there, plus, since we know it so well, it's incredibly relaxing. This summer will be our 17th consecutive visit. I only wish we could buy a second home there.
I find it borderline neurotic that someone would actually go to the same place year in/year out. If someone should do this, they should seek professional help.<BR><BR>BTW, only 333 mo' days until we go back to our same Kauai location for our 12th time! ;-)<BR>We plan on going back until the NaPali Coast sinks into the ocean or I get elected President, whatever comes first.<BR><BR>It's like finding a good wine. You can't get enough of it yet you know how to savor it so it won't get old.<BR>We do go to other places during the year but the Kauai trip is like our year end goal.<BR><BR>Mucho Mahalos,<BR>Kal For President
<BR>Lol, Kal,<BR> If one must be neurotic, what better way to demonstrate it, no? :)
Combination of both. We try to go at least 2 new places every year, but we alternate between Banff/Lake Louise Canada and Yosemite for a summer trip each year. Also would never tire of returning to Paris.
Yes. I've been going to Lake Tahoe every year since I was a toddler. Now we take our kids. Grew up in S CA so the drive took all night. Lickily for us we live within 2 hours now so there is no back seat whining.<BR><BR>We've recently begun to add on a trip to Mammoth Lakes. We leave Tahoe and drive down 395. Pretty short trip from Tahoe. The trip back we either go through Yosemite, Sonora Pass or back through Tahoe. <BR><BR>As mentioned by nina the best part of reurning to a known place is that it's so relaxing, you can see friends who do the same vacation and you don't feel the need to go go go.<BR><BR>We do other trips during the year to different places. Kal has talked me into saving for an annula trip to Hawaii and though it's not every 12 months we'll try to make it within a reasonable period. Longest period we went without visiting Hawaii since our honeymoon has been about 9 years. We'll never let that happen again!!!
Every year growing up we went to Wyoming to visit our cousins. It never seemed boring, each camping trip was different and as we aged we were different each time we took a trip!<BR>Now I do like to broaden my horizens, but we do repeat alot of places mainly because we have family there.
I go several different places every year but one I always love has been Keystone, Colorado. So this past year I bought a townhouse there! Now I can go as often as I want. But I'll still go other places as well.
Lola,<BR>"I'm and excellent driver....10 mins to Wapner..."<BR><BR>Suzie, After fighting it for so many years, I found goal setting does work on some things, especially travel!<BR>332.5!
How boring! Especially the repeated trips to Hawaii. I would be bored out of my mind. Sure it is beautiful, especially Maui, but so is Venice, Cannes, Lake Como, Istanbul, Prague and so many other fabulous places. <BR><BR>Vanilla is probably their favorite ice cream, and the walls in their home are probably all white.
do you make love to the same person year after year?So that is why we go to the same place that makes us feel that way.Besides what feels good is good.
Yes, we go to Holden Beach (NC) several times every year. In addition we also try (but are not always successful depending on cost of flights, etc.) to visit, NO, Key West, Napa/Sonoma & Paris.
Gteri, so what makes you think we haven't also been to Venice, Lake Como, Cannes, Istanbul and Prague? Your stereotype is way off. My favorite flavor of ice cream isn't vanilla either.
Let me just add in a typical year we take 10 trips. 8 of the long weekend variety (3-5 days) & 2 longer (7-17 days)w/usually @ least one to Europe). But we also go there on E-Savers for long weekends as well. So we are constantly going new places. This disclaimer is so I don't get torn apart by the same place bashers. I was hoping most of that would go away w/the new registration policy...
