Do you return to the same place year after year?
 

Do you return to the same place year after year? I have friends that go to Key West the end of every June and won't go any other place. I don't understand. Does anyone else go to the same place year after year?

Nope. We go to a different location all the time. As a result, we've been to 17 countries and every state in the continental US. We do go back to Florida fairly often and do like the Keys but I can't see Key West year after year.

If you live in a major metro area, would you eat out at the same restaurant every time you eat out?

I have friends who go to Gulf Shores, AL every year. I don't understand it either. Guess some folks like to vacation purely to relax, and nothing else. I relax when I get home from a vacation. <BR>

Yep, we go to New Orleans every year for a few days and now evidently that makes us weird. Hunh, I thought we were a fairly normal couple that just happened to find a wonderful city that we enjoy enough to visit regularly. Guess that shows how much I know.....

Cindy, no one said it made you weird. Bill is just wondering why.<BR><BR>We go back to the same places for long weekends but for our yearly long trip, we always go to a different island.

Yes and I realize the drawl backs just can't stop going back to Hawaii. My only solace is that I traveled heavily in my young adult life with months and sometimes-entire summers in Egypt, Turkey, Israel, and Europe.<BR><BR>Now as if my karmic vacations have run dry I only get two weeks so I don't want the guessing/stress that can sometimes go along with exploring. I do look for new hiking trails, rivers to kayak, beaches to snorkel in, menus to devour! I tell myself this is travel it really is just about making Hawaii a familar home away from home.<BR>

Yes and no. I grew up all over Europe and the US. I love to travel, but now that I've discovered a special vacation spot in Mexico I plan to return there every other year or so, and eventually retire there. I love the place, the people, and no matter how many times my permanent residence changes (as it will), I'll have a second &quot;home&quot; to return to. BUT I also take trips to new locations on a semi-regular basis. I think I'll end up doing Mexico every other year, then a new national or international destination in alternate years. Best of both worlds.

Yes, we try to get to Key West at least once a year, and New Orleans about as often. That doesn't mean that we don't travel other places as well. That being said, we really need to expand our traveling and spend more time in Europe.

We return to the same California beach town for one week each summer, and to the same ski town for one week each winter. (one other week per year, we go somewhere random) Maybe we're boring. But, these are places we are very comfortable with, we know how to get around, where to eat, where to stay, etc. and we love it! They are places we'd like to live in, if we could afford to. And because we're only there one week each year, it doesn't get boring AT ALL!

For bigger trips, we go to new places, especially since we're in our mid-twenties and have hardly seen anything yet. But for mini weekend trips (or cheaper trips), we tend to go to the same places, mainly in California since we live there (and are only here for a few more years). <BR><BR>It's nice to visit the same places every once in a while and relax, instead of getting lost in new places and taking a risk that a new restaurant will be good,etc..

We go to Vegas at least once a year.

We visited the same summertime/beach spot every year for more than 20 years (renting the same house for 13 of those years), until we bought a house in the area and moved there full-time a few years later. That was our summertime/get-away-from-the-city/find some cool routine, and it was important to our kids...BUT we also did other travel during those years, with the kids and without. To be honest, I got kind of antsy and at times resented returning to the same spot, when it seemed like there was so much else to explore. Who knew I'd end up living in the spot full-time - and loving it!

Yup. We've been to Vegas for the past 4 yrs in a row. Looks like our annual destination, and we are not big gamblers.

I think migrating birds do this.

We spend a month in the Florida Keys (May) and we also go to New Orleans at least once a year. But we do include other destinations throughout the year to make our vacations interesting.

Wow. Take me @ home said exactly what I was going to say. I have a secret hide out in mexico that I return to every year. Great people, great place. I wonder if we are going to the same place? I also go to Vegas every year. But I take two other trips too and always make them different. I fall in love with places and want to keep going back. I would love to add NYC to my annual trip list, but there are limits on my time off. Alas.

Two things every year:<BR><BR>1. Mardi Gras in New Orleans<BR><BR>2. A weekend in Salem, Mass. during Haunted Halloween month of October
