Do we need a car in Ft. Lauderdale?

We're going to be in Ft. Lauderdale from this Friday afternoon until Saturday afternoon. We are staying at the the Sheraton Yankee Clipper.

Given our short time, we mostly plan to spend time on the beach and to check out the Las Olas Blvd area for window shopping and dining.

Would we be better off renting a car or making use of the Water Taxi? From what I see, the Water Taxi has a stop that is right by our hotel. Will that be adequate for us to get around?

How much do taxis cost to/from the airport?

Thanks in advance for the help!

You definitely do not need a car. The water taxi is great (and you don't have to worry about parking or traffic!) Last time we were there, we took the shuttle from airport and it was $14 per person.

I agree with Linda the water taxi is an easy way to get around and you will want to take it that evening down to the turnaround at Shooters and Taverna Opa.

your hotel is about 10-15 minutes by car to Las Olas. A cab ride is easier than a car

Also, there is the Sun Trolley that goes up and down A1A and over to Las Olas for .50. (It is a bus shaped like a trolley)

I agree-no car for such a short time (or even a longer time). No parking worries and it will allow you to have an extra drink at the Elbo Room. (!)
