Do these travel forums interfere with work?
 

Just reading a post and they mentioned being bored at work. Just wondered how many people are at work when they are on this site and do the ones with supervisors watching them ever get told off???

Everyone is at work, just not working, Fodor's is more fun. Bored, you can do it, just watch for you supervisor and don't get caught. I've been on Fodor's for weeks and still get my work done.

I am one of those bored at work people. Just posted on another thread about how I am on a conference call right now which is very boring so I am multitasking and surfing Fodor's as well.<BR><BR>In answer to your question, I don't really have a supervisor, I am an attorney so unless you count th esenior partner in my office . . . I really don't "report" to anyone. I do not have a 9-5 type job. I am required to "bill" 9 hours a day. If I spend 11 hours at the office to bill that 9 hours (which is pretty normal considering one of those 11 hours is my lunch hour) that is my business, I can do whatever I want. BTW as I am on conference call whith 2 other attorneys discussing "strategy" I am considered to be "billing" this time even though I am posting!

Last Friday one of our employees was fired from her position because she was on Fodor's. She had been verbally warned three times and received a written warning once and still was caught on Fodor's. Now that she is gone, I can stop watching her and get more time on Fodor's myself, only I won't get fired.

Ah, Supervisor, when wasn't it this way! Way to go - you've got her out of there, now you're free to join us. Welcome, indeed. She's probably in the bread line now.

Supervisor,<BR>You crack me up. I am the boss in my office and I just fired my manager's assistant for too many personal e-mails and phone calls.

and that's why VP is as high as you're going - until you get focused on the big picture and stop terrorizing the small fry who work under you. Best to keep the tyrants who fire out of upper management, especially when they gloat on fodors. asshole manager of the year was just awarded - tough luck. What a nominee you'd have made. Better luck next year, if your employees let you live.

Last Thursday I walked into my co-worker's office to find a picture of a nude woman w/an aroused horse on his computer screen. Did he ever scramble to get rid of the screen, finally turning off his hard drive. When I told him never did I want to see anything like that again, he said he had brought the disc from home. Of course he apologized.<BR>Now, do you think that's worse than me being on Fodors right now, or what???<BR>I still haven't made up my mind about what to do about the pervert next door. What would you do?

I can't imagine having enough time at work to sit around surfing. Wish I had the time some people here have!

Jason, you could not be more wrong. Time you spend at work is company time, and you're on company equipment. Most people are under the sad delusion that they have a right to privacy while at work and on the net-- wrong. Employees should have NO expectation of privacy while they are on the internet at the office. People are being fired every day from corporations for looking at porn and sending inappropriate emails. Have seen it firsthand, many times. Words to the wise: be careful. Big Brother is most definitely watching you.

Actually surprised a guy in my company was surfing porn sites and he got fired. I would turn his ass in. Anyone that perverted is probably one step away from the looney bin....

Oh, nope, give the scare crap a rest, will ya. Nobody can be watching! And anyway, we do have a right to some privacy while we're posting, whether in the office or at home. Doesn't matter whose time it's on. You're apparently not an attorney, are you!

Frt, you go on living in your dream world and surf those hot horny teen websites 9 to 5, by all means. Then, when your HR catches up to you and fires your lazy ass, don't come crying like a little girl. YOu obviously need to bone up on your company policy manual. Any big corporation will most definitely have stated policies about what employees can and cannot do on company time on the net. And porn surfing while at work DOES constitute sexual harrassment at a lot of places. But you go on and do what you want, you're obviously fodder for the unemployment line anyway.

I believe that would be sexual harassment according to the definition of sexual harassment at my workplace. As for the poster who said to mind your own business, well, it is your business. You shouldn't have to be subjected to such things in the workplace. What would I do about it? Personally I would ignore it the first time.

you may be right, nope, but to be frank, nobody in our HR ever says a thing about surfing policy. we're independent contractors, we're pretty much seperate, and if there's some overall policy, it sure beats me. our HR people are sleezes anyway, and some actually have to share a cubicul and a screen. cant imagine them doing anything to watch us post. how come youre so excited about this stuff anyway, sounds to me maybe your company has a bigger problem than ours.

My supervisor is out golfing today, no doubt with other supervisors who couldn't tell you the difference between a firewall and a niblick. <BR><BR>If your work output or quality suffers from Fodormania, it's too much. If it doesn't, and you're not on piecework, or you don't answer to the guy with pointy hair, let your conscience and your bandwidth be your guide. I personally find Fodors keeps me sharp, and provides enough laughs to raise my spirit from time to time, despite work which sometimes is a downer.<BR><BR>Don't forget, though, that Fodors probably can see your IPA, so if you threaten someone or break the law (including libel) your place of work might get a call from someone with a badge.
